From a recent interview with the new producer:
Massively: Recently there was a poll in-game in EverQuest asking players to help choose the type of a new server. The 51/50 option ended up being the most popular, but there were a lot of folks who aren't currently playing (and therefore couldn't cast a vote) that have been saying they might have voted differently. Do you think there's any chance of another new server any time soon, or a poll that is open to the public?
TT: Ahh yes, there certainly is. Without it happening today and giving you a definite answer, I can say that that is the goal. We've identified that the players have voted for the 51/50 server and Progression server as the top two. You can expect to see something in the near future, without letting too many cats out of the bag, which I probably just did anyway. <laughs>
Massively: What's your opinion on the idea of a "Classic Server" that sometimes gets thrown about, one that's locked down to only the first handful of expansions indefinitely?
TT: That's kind of the thing that I touched on before, just my own experience in the game. That's when I remember the game most, and I think there's definitely a possibiltiy of that happening. It's already a popular idea. With every expansion that has come out, sometimes it can take a little bit more effort to get through that content, and you might not have the time that you used to. I think when you can touch back on something that you can remember, starting out again as a group, a bunch of friends, it's really cool to go back and do that. So I think there's a definite possibility of that.

I would resub instantly if they started a server which was just classic EQ to around Velious. Im guessing so would a lot of Vets.
GREAT FIND!!!!!
please parade this every where you can.
good job

I'd definately play on this server. I always wanted to do Veeshan's Peak in it's original form when it was still high end content.
I'd resub immediately if they released a classic server.
EQ1 (1999-2002) - The best MMORPG ever.
Its such a hard call if I'd come back, however if they did limit it to say Velious (though I wouldn't object to Luclin) I'd consider it. I'm thinking of going back to EQII and if I do I'll get the Station Access account, which would allow me to play EQ as well.

Count me in.
Classic for me would mean no Station cash.
Do this and it would be great
A pre-luclin server would be nice, but you pretty much have to assume that SoE would completely screw it up. They'd probably add station cash or something, they really just can't resist screwing things up.
"Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun."
That would have my sub if they keep station cash out of it.
I should be excited, but I am not:
Even when they had the special classic zones the "uber raid" guilds just dominated camps and so did the gold/item sellers. Everquest, today, has little room for regular players.
The idea we would have a revival with a "classic" server is far-fetched at best and just naive at worst. Unfortunately, I have heard this song and seen this dance. Sorry if it sounds pessimistic, but I REALLY have "been there and done that."
The server would have to end at a certain point in which it would not be attractive for those that want a so-called 50/51 (what a stupid concept) and zerg-raid four nights a week.
Many people want to group (WITHOUT mercs) again with friends and family. How many? I have no idea. Enough, I SUSPECT, to sustain a TRULY "classic" server.
