What you see now is NOT what you will see at release. And, judging by the claims of a zoneless world, amazing graphics would kill most machines, when the processors tried to render it all.
Secondly, at to the buggy products. No, no other form of entertainment or art releases products like this, why? Because none of them are as complex, large, and difficult to produce. None of them have to try to make their product run on thousands of different parts, consistently and efficiently on each. There WILL be errors in the code, it's not going to stop. Please, don't bring out the "Back in the day this didn't happen". Back in the day they didn't have 5 different GFX card architectures, which are then split into another 4 sub-cards, which are then split into another 4 performance options, that they needed to code for, and that's just one producer, they need to code for both chipsets. The parts are much more complex and there are more of them than there used to be. You can't expect the programmers to code for every one of these setups the first time through. If you do, buy a console, it'll probably work out better for you.

Graphics is the single most OVERATED stat used to determine a pass or fail with a game....unless to dense to see past "the pretty lights" and are content to stand ingame looking at swaying grass (god how the masses are so easily ammused). The graphiocs are more than adequate to effectivly portray the sentiments of a harsh and dangerouse enviroment (for god sake they have an axe sticking out of a mans head in the tutorial...axe in head = awsome) I agree that the graphics will also lend to a better functioning world mechanicly.....which equates to less lag...an absolute show stoper in my book. This games strenght is its unique setting....and hopefully game play.
no its not, just tell me how many old school games, you can play with joy now, there arent many
there is one thing, bad graphic quiality + good style = wc3 ( shit its not bad graphic quality, it was superb back in the days, but by pleasant look, it gives you, it still surpases todays some shity rts ) and there is bad quality + bad style , i cant just pop game out of my head, i know i had one which i was like WTF just recent
i wont even go into whole ', lots of rts 2 years ago, which were released in such graphic/style , that playing them for more than 30 mins, would make your eyes hurt like bitch , and trust me i have good eyes, thank god i didnt met any of those games anymore this year..
there is one thing, wanting to game look pleasant, for example like wow, and another look just outstanding like aoc, yes asking it to be looking like aoc is too much, but asking for it to be pleasant its not,
Well lets see for starters....the entire Fallout series, Pirates, DarkWind which was an auto duel spin off, UO, Counter Strike, hell i even play star craft to name an rts....
Yes graphics should be on par with the current standard...or rather acomplish their intended role of effectivly potraying the desired enviroment to set "the mood"...which from what I can tell do.....
To say that the current graphics are not on par with WOW is obsurd...they are...even in their Beta state
Graphics aren't everything for me. I can play good games with great gameplay even if the graphics are sub-par, but for an mmo and when you (many of us) have top notch gear, you got to wonder, why create an mmo that look as dated as FALLEN EARTH? The newest video didn't appeal to me. Some of the game concepts, crafting, brutal world, etc. are all great, but that video was H O R R I B L E looking. What it really means for me is that it seems the company is not employing the best artists, so do we trust the rest of the game is good? This game seem to be a little above the Darkfall nonsense, but suffer from some of the same problems. I for one is disinterested now, seeing this development is going with an old style engine. The engine is more important than graphics. And the animations look weird. Textures bad. In comparison AoC launched with great graphics and failed in all other respects. I am looking for a company that can do both.
To be honest you ARE too demanding, if you want great graphics expect gameply to suffer, any MMO with great graphics for the most part gets a lovely instance treatment in return (AoC best example) Vanguard is the only game ive played that has decent visuals and is not instanced at all. In all fairness, the visuals in fallen earth are not AoC quality, but they arent horrible at all, and they arent 5 years old, thats just ignorance.

Well to create a game with uber graphics, superior network code and extensively deep game mechanics will cost about $200.00 a unit and $24.95 a month to play.
Cant have it all, look at WoW...stupid silly cartoon Hanna Barbarra graphics and its a hit.

In what way is AOC too much? It runs great and actually doesn't even need that great of a system. I run it maxxed out at 1920x1200 getting over 120FPS on a video card that cost me $350 a few months ago. I have also played it just fine at 1680x1050 on a $79 9800GT.
Age of conan has very nice and optimized graphics. As a whole it runs better then warhammer and looks 30 times better.
That a side i do think the Fallen earth graphics look kind of like a modified corprate video animation (something you would see in a sexual harrassment video or something). But besides that I never really found them that subpar.
MMOs normally have subpar graphics. For one it reaches a wide audiance also though it gives them breathing room for other features.
It is a direct indication of resources available to the developing team (you don't purposefully make any game look bad). I would suggest that the defenders in this thread step back, don't hate the game for its graphics but take it for what its worth at least instead of spouting your idealistic phrases at anyone that likes graphics.
The graphics aren't 'top notch'. I would, however, take into account that this isn't a game where the world is supposed to be full of 'new and shining' things.
But... on the other hand... I could get the same gameplay experience from SWG right now.
The graphics are fine, they aren't gonna blow you outta the water perhaps, but as long as the game runs smooth, and animations fluid and feel like they actually hit and it aint just numbers on a screen.
Only issue I see is that settings for scene lighting look a bit flat (overly ambient). That might even be intentional considering its supposed to be a grungy combat game. It could also be that they're going to finalize lighting later. That's an easy tweak.

www.ActionMMORPG.com One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~
I'm not that concerned with how it looks. Looks are just an afterthough. Aion looks fantastic, but if the game weren't fun I wouldn't be enjoying it.
I'll wait until I can play the game before I start criticizing it too harshly. I'm always reminded of the Civilization series... the graphics have always been pathetic, but the gameplay is addicting.
Or even look at the popularity of the Wii.
If the games are fun enough, poor graphics can be overlooked.
Alright that is one very, very brown game. I mean seriously, it's one thing in good looking games like Brown Theft Auto and Greys of War, but going in that direction with game with graphics that already are a bit substandard is not a good idea.
I hate how games like this and darkfall are giving sandboxes a bad name.
Graphics are for kids. They can remove everything from Fallen Earth right now and make it a freaking text based mud and I would still play it if it's good.

I think you might need to explain to the kiddies just what a mud is
I still remember getting complete immersed into another world without a single picture, nothing but text. That's something that a good game can still do, even with graphics that aren't fantastic.
That being said, I don't think the graphics are that bad. People are either a) too picky or b) looking for something to criticize
Great concept for a game, though....some really cool ideas here. I have to wonder if it's too late to hope for this thing to be ready before they launch...

look at war and darkfall when they tried that and they failed specialy darkfall
Then look at the most popular MMOs out today...
WoW
Linage I and II
FFXI
... name a few others that have over a million subs.. they all have low graphics
Aion
ion uses the Crytek engine. I wouldn't say that has low graphics.

Aion does have low graphics, or atleast the option to make them low enough to be played by anyone.
As I have stated before I can run Aion with an onboard Intel graphics chip. This computer can't even run WAR, AoC, Vanguard, or even Linage II.
It can run Aion.
What does that tell ya? well besides that I have a crappy machine.
It tells you that success is measured by subscriptions and if people can't play the game they won't subscribe.
Low graphics are ok!

The screenshots on MMORPG are bad. Not only the textures are of a far to low resolution, but the positions, human build, etc, are just off....
On the other hand, the screenshots that Yukumo posted are much more natural (to bad he just needed to trow some silly insults).
Just a hint, maybe some of us still enjoy games from the 90s . The time when games had a story and good gameplay
Its better to have outdated graphics then outdated gameplay!
Ok, OP how can judge a alpha/beta test by a video, until u get to try it don't condone
a pre release game, let's just say a recently released MMO with uber graphics
that i have subscribed to has not been touched obviously can't say why i let you guess.
On the subject of graphics many games with low end graphics are some times the
most addictive, check out (kingdom of loathing) prob worst graphics ever
but they are intentional it's the gameplay that matters.
When u get true sandbox game grab it with both hands as these buggers are as rare has hens teeth.
Suffice to say watch this space,i remember many years ago the same comments about Runescape nuff said.?
So go to the website and try ,good luck if you do make it in.
Then decide and post a considered opinion instead of speculation from a most possible alpha test video.

latest vids showin off at E3 don't look dated at all really.
Game at this point looks worse than ftp games like Runes of magic, and to be honest the gameplay does not make-up for this.
As a shooter style game Tabula Rasa was better and look at how well that did.
I'm not that concerned with how it looks. Looks are just an afterthough. Aion looks fantastic, but if the game weren't fun I wouldn't be enjoying it.
