If you consider from level 1-25 already too much grind

billysonbillyson Member Posts: 41

Then you should  just quit this game, after level30 the real grinding will start. Also if you except something "New" and "Different" MMO these days,It only disappoint you. You might have better chance find a "New" and "Different" game  from Console games.

Level49-50 would took an average gamer 15hours+ .

Note: If your are a carebear or casual gamer, then you won't find much fun in Aion.

I don't know but for some odd reason people have it embedded in their heads that they should be level 50 in 2 days and run through the entire mmo without any effort whatsoever. They might as well stick to single player rpgs if thats their thing.

Btw: You can reach level50 in 3-4 days by get powerleveled by high level toons.  one of the  Korean hit level50 around 3days.

Grind is just monotonously repeating a task over and over again. Grind does not make a game any more hardcore or better, it just makes it more annoying.

I don't want to hit level 50 in 2 days but I do want to enjoy myself from level 1-50. Although some grinding can be a nice change of pace, too much of it does not make the game fun.

I disagree. I think a grind is doing a task over and over while gaining little progress. Take Lineage 2 for example. I am LV 75 and it will probaly take me an hour of killing mobs just to get 5% of xp and thats with Vitality which helps the xp gain. With no Vitality it would probaly take me a couple of hours. Thats what I call grinding. As for as I am concerned Aion does not come close to a grind. Games like WoW, AOC, War and Lotro do not have grinds. I dont think any other PTP MMOs have grinds. To find what a grind is you would have to play Lineage 2 or one of the FTP Asian MMOs.

No, doing the same thing over and over is a grind. Wow, AoC, WAR and LOTRO do have a grind. Crafting is one grind for example, youll need to do tons of useless crap to get enough crafting for something useful.

Compared to L2 they might not be so bad but that is kinda like comparing Charles Manson to Hitler, L2 is insane. But still, you will spend a lot of time doing the same thing over and over in all the counted game. That is grinding.

I mean the game in general, like getting ganked by high level and getting KS by other players or BOTs.... etc

What do you mean? That the quests stop and you just have to go kill? Or do you mean it just takes a long time to level while questing?

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Solo perhaps the grind is a bit much

Get a good group toghether, and take on difficult mobs for more exp, and I imagine it'll go much faster.

That's assuming people still group in mmo's these days..

I still disagree that doing the same thing over and over is a grind. If thats the case then every game ever made has a grind and I will never say that. In Super Mario Bros. you jump on the same monsters heads over and over to kill them till you reach the end of the level so is that a grind? No its not because you make good progress doing it and it does not take long to reach the goal. In a game like Halo you shoot the same monsters over and over so is that a grind? lol

On the Chinese servers I took a sorcerer up to level 43 without doing anything but quests. No grinding and no pvp so this stuff about lack of quests is totally wrong. Just people starting flames. Ignore them please.

There's a difference between an enjoyable grind versus a non-enjoyable grind.  I'm not implying that Aion is a non-enjoyable grind because it's all opinion.  Hardcore is a playstyle and so is casual.

For all beta testers do take in mind of the situation in the beta (only one server, one race, 4 channel's, boat loads of people). Of course its gonna take awhile to lvl in this situation. I could make lvl10 in 4 hours in korea but in this beta test it took me 11 hours. And i have made 10 classes in korea & china to lvl35+ so rolling through the first 10 lvls for me should be easy but its not.

Just take it in stride if you can.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

    QFT

Also after lvl 20 or so your are SUPPOSED to be partying. Right now I am laughing at retards who fight things half their level 'cause it is faster because they are too retarded to party with a support class or healer.

You have to realise, that from the word go, mages kill mobs in 2-3 hits, while it takes all other classes literally 20 seconds to kill a mob. Hence why everyone is QQing. Took me 7 hours from Lv4-13 as a scout->ranger. And now I'm bored as f*ck because my quests require me to kill mobs that are 2 levels higher than me and always run in groups (aggro hardcore).

And believe me, it's so freaking hard to find a group cause everyone in this beta is so anti-social. I'm there on shouting "creating party to kill 'xx' and do 'these' quests" and no one replies. I invite people and they all decline. It's no wonder everyone is leveling so slow.

Another thing that bothers me, 8 out of 10 people are rolling mages, it took me longer to hit level 4 than it took me to hit level 13 (from 4) because all the mages wouldn't stop stealing kills, it was like a freaking competition of who can kill faster or something.

I got KS'd by people constantly, but it didn't make me a bad player. It also doesn't make the game hardcore, punishing players for doing that might make it hardcore but that doesn't happen.

The client is a free for all, KS'ing a lower level person or PK'ing / ganking said person isn't hard to do, not hardcore and I could do it with one hand behind my back.

The KS'ing is annoying because it happens by your own faction, so you can't even kill that person or do something about it. They just KS the mob, get the XP and the loot and that's it. Annoying? Yes. Hardcore? No, not at all.

So that is why you couldn't make it past level 10, well that would have been a valid complaint when you made your list.  Sadly this method you atleast have a chance if your a DPS class, other game mechanics use first touch method making an AoEr get anything and everything no questions asked.

My solution to this problem was first already solved by being a Sorc, second (I didn't want to gank others mobs or be accused) you can change instances of the same zone as if it was a raid or something.  Some people complained it went to 4 instances and it wasn't enough, I got into 7 and it was a breeze till I wanted to group or wanted help so I just swapped back to a higher channel.

i dont know.. im not casual, i play games daily for many hours..

I think im getting older.. or smarter, maybe both. But the idea of presing the same 4-5 buttons for hours is no fun for me.. i would rather watch a porn or do something worth the time.

The only thing that keeps me from quitting Aion is getting high lvl enough to try pvp..

:S i dont see the fun in this game so far.. and yes is like every other mmo.. im not expecting a life changing experience.. but at least something fun..

shouldnt the fun begging at level 1? dont tell me the fun starts at level 10 .. or 20 :s why pay for a game like that

If you watch The Karate Kid backwards it's about this karate champ that just kinda slowly becomes a pussy and ends up moving back to Jersey

Well Ranger killing gets easier at level 19 when you have Attack Arrow or whatever it's called. Then you have your slow skill, your 2 hit combo and your stun so leveling gets easier. Some classes take longer to level, but you'll all be level 50+ in the end.
