EVERY MMORPG should try to live up to or surpass this for character creation in my opinion... just incredible.

That's the best character creation that I've ever seen in any game, single-player or MMO. I'd love to see it become the standard in the next generation of games.
I suppose we'll have to wait to see how well the game plays in heavily populated areas and whether or not the complexity of the player-characters causes FPS/lag issues that affect gameplay.
Hope they pull it off though.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
That's crazy, I could spend hours messing around with that stuff jesus specially the whole tatoo segment...
Being utterly frustrated with the new Sims 3, I just cry over looking at this. This is SO AWESOME. (Is that Paul Barnett I hear??) I never heard of this game before. No idea whats it about, but you are right. This is the best ever. Why are we getting trash in MMOs and single player games yet, when THIS is possible? Awesome.
Thanks for showing us. I would make that sticky, I tell ya!

Very very nice! i could spend days!!!

Welcome to the show then Elikal. Guys, as great as the CC is, remember there are costs associated with going at that level. Kind of remember Conan, if you will. It has the closest CC to this (although this one is obviously much better).

Costs for sure... but I really hope Star Wars The Old Republic sees this and says 'Damn... we gotta pull our socks up to compete with that one.'
BioWare loves to push boundries and they have severe financial backing for TOR. I'm personally kind of hoping [uselessly] for an avatar redo because I'm not a big fan of the silly model proportions they've got going right now - the worst part of that game so far in my opinion.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Fantastic creator, though it has me worried I'll spend too much time creating characters if the game has a reason to create alts (which most MMOs do.)
Basically, having spent 60+ mins creating some of my heroes/villains in CoX, I just want the option to rough out a character and jump into the game -- knowing that I can detail the character later at any time. ("at any time" would probably be the key difference from CoX, where you can create/modify new costumes but it's not convenient til you're many hours in.)

Wow. A new standard has been set. Let's see how many dev teams fail to live up to it ^_^
Truly amazing stuff.

I doubt BioWare will even care. These two are catering to two completely different styles of games. Expect to find a lot of things in TOR, that you won't find in APB (lightsabers and robots, are a given). Same goes with graphics. Bioware has bluntly said they are going after the WoW demographic, while APB is offering something more akin to the GTA crowd.

Bioware is already breaking its only barrier, its focusing on being the first meaningful story driven MMORPG, and i believe character creation will mean nothing once an MMORPG can succesfully bring the Role playing back into the term MMORPG.
APB customization is pretty cool, champions online is up there as well, There is still sometime before launch for both titles so im not sure which of them will be better then which.

Forgive me for being cynical, but character creation is just like one of these 2 dozens or so features that people scream, cry, cheer and dance about, but in the end, doesnt mean jack for the success of a game.
Really, the factors that determine whether a game even gets a CHANCE are half a dozen. The rest is just window dressing that people love to talk up, but will not make them play a game for long.
All a great char creation does is maybe get a few people to check out the trial, and hype the game a bit more. Its forgotten the second you step into the world.
I find it fascinating you say "back" into the term MMORPG; as if role-playing existed in MMORPGs at one time that wasn't totally player-driven.

Looks pretty cool. I actually suck at FPS but will give this a try since I have a PS3 and there will be no monthly fees.
it absolutely blew me away, as Paul said in the presentation, ull spend loads of time tweaking ur char rather than playing the game...
hopefully more devs and companies will follow the example,
I really have something against the genre built around APB, and when I heard the game announced I was just "meh"..
But after watching this, I know for sure I will buy and if nothing else at least play with the character creator.. because that was sick!
The tattoos part was awesome..
If only there was something more to this game than cars and robbers...

I'm not entirely sure I would even want that much character creation. When the character creation allows for too many options I simply can't stop myself from spending my entire time just sitting and making characters. I'm an altoholic in the sense that I just want to make ever possible hawt looking combination when I play games, and with this much character customization... I don't think I'd ever actually get past the character customization.
Did i hear paul barnetts voice on that video? If he is involved with this game i will stay well away from it, i wont be fooled twice.
That guy just spews lies.
There are a lot of games just as good if not better when it comes to character creation. You need to get out more.
PW, Aion and City of Heros just to mention a few.
Gameplay determines a games success, the character creation is more or less fluff and few take much time with it.
Very impressive, allowing normal people to get a small taste of modeling and texturing even if its all slider driven. But in the end, an avatar creator won't keep people playing or even buy the game unless theres more to it. The actual game seems like a bore anyway.
APB was only just recently assigned under EA, and its more of a distributer/ advertising deal than anything. PB has litterally nothing to do with the actual development this time.... so far.

That's very well done indeed.
I'm impressed.
Get out more? Im sure the OP is well aware of those games as am I ... and i assure you i am still more impressed by the APB charracter creation so far. And while I do think this, It is my opinion just like yours that you tried to push off as a fact.
Absolutely the best character creation experience I have seen. That really is amazing. I thought CoH/CoV were great... APB indeed raises the bar.
Amazing.
Can't wait for this game. Well too bad I will have to wait a long time for this game tho. MMos take way too long to make
