The slideshow started again. This time it was 300+ ppl siege. Sad to see the sever still can't hold this. I still enjoy this game but i miss the "large scale pvp" part.

You will not quit, why make empty threats? who are you trying to scare, AV??
Not trying to defend them but, name a mmo that can handle 300+ peoples in the same place without lag ?
Planetside did it very effectively, Since 2003. Man I miss that game... :<
AV is a small team who are amatuar programmers. Thats the problem a lot of people stupidly rushed into DF thinking its a AAA title made by 9999999999101901231938373 people, and thus expect the quality reflecting that. Next time, do research before you rush in to the game. You will not do this though lol

Are they charging as much as a AAA title?
Has Aventurine said to expect LESS than a AAA title?
Which MMO title had a smaller team, DarkFall or DAoC?
Which MMO title has spent the most time in development before Release?

Sorry, defending AV by projecting some baseless assumption on others won't fly.
A: They've spent 8+ years working on a MMO based around mass PvP. Its performance in those situations should have been a high priority. Instead of having a proper stress test, Tasos insisted the MMO would have AI that could test the game at least as well as live players could. He was wrong.
B. Tasos insisted the game was ready months before release, more ready than any MMOs he'd checked out at that point. He was wrong.
C. Tasos and co. hyped up DF throughout its development as being a revolutionary, ground-breaking title. To read their interviews and look at the features boasted on the main website, there's nothing there to indicate they were developing anything less than a AAA quality title. They didn't... It was all hype and hot air.
D. I've played several MMOs from amateur developers. I've paid, maybe $19 for the game, and the monthly sub was around $9-10 a month. That's what I'd expect to pay for an amatuer production. AV are charging full AAA prices for the game itself and for the subscription. If they want to charge AAA prices, provide a AAA game. Want to be excused as merely an amateur production with lower expectations? Charge amatueur level prices. They can't have it both ways.
I would hold *any* company to those standards, not just AV.
And... before the usual suspects come in here and say "well, you're wrong because it's worth it to me and all the features left out don't matter anyway and they didn't anticipate how wildly popular the game would be".... Spare us. We all know the typical apologist BS and spin by now.

Umm...
Lineage 2?
Also,
Seiging is possibly the biggest part of the game. It should work. Not to mention the lead developer and head producer has made posts on thier official site bragging about how the large scale battles; yet, it still doesn't work.
Also WoW. It wasn't pvp but I have been in places during events with several hundred people around and the game was still playable. You also didn't say anything about PvP, just in the same place.
CoH.
Atlas park or Galaxy city whe the game first release could have a hundred or more people in the zone; if not all standing around the trainer BSing, having constume contests with partical effecst running and still be playable. Again, you said in the same place.
This isn't a problem when you get to 300+ people either.
The game becomes a slideshow with 200+, and they don't all have to be casting magic. Even in melee it's a problem, and there aren't a bunch of particle effects going then.
So much for auto optimizing.
Wich I can say doesn't work. My client is supposed to optimize when the FPS drops to bellow 30. I've put myself in situations that I only get 15 and it's not kicking in.
How about this.
No matter what shader model I set the game at, wich today PS1 and PS2 wouldn't render shadows; yet on wed. they did, regardless of having scenery shadows plus character shadows, or just scenery, just character, I get the same performance.
Turn all settings down and turn on shadows, I get the same perfmance.
Turn shadow quality to low, smoothing to low, I get the same performance if I set it to high/ high.
If I set everything to low in an area that doesn't have any objects to render shadows I get the exact same performance as when in an area with one tree, or many trees.
If I check to enable shadows, but uncheck scenery and character shadows I get the same performance as if character and scenery shadows are checked.
To put it simply, if I check the option to turn on shadows, it doesn't matter what my settings are at, high or low across the board, I get the exact same performance.
Intel core 2 quad q8200
8gb ram
A 1gb nvidia gt120. (esentially a 9500gt. just slightly faster)
I can run CoH at max settings with 30-50 fps.
WoW max setting for 40-60 fps
haven't tried EQ2 on the new PC, but I expect to get better perfance then DFO with shadows on.
As long as the shadows are off in DFO I can max everything else and get 70-120 fps outside of a seige. I can't play with shadows on, and I should be able to.

I am certain it's your computer and video settings. I have seen flawlessly smooth videos on Youtube with as many players as this. What is your hardware?

Please link the videos on YouTube showing 300+ people, actively engaged in PvP, in the same area, at the same time with "flawlessly smooth" performance. I've yet to see anything coming close to that... and I've looked. The closest I've seen was a vid showing what looked like about 70 people on screen at once fighting... the person recording had shadows disabled and it was still notably choppy and laggy; far from "flawlessly smooth".
And, by the way, showing a video showing 60 or so, tops, running cross-country or standing around with a smooth frame-rate, and then extrapolating it out to be 300+ doesn't cut it.

Well, there's lag... and then there's a slideshow.
You can still play a game with lag. All MMOs experience lag to some degree, even outside massive PvP situations.
If the game reduces to a slide-show, however, well... good luck staying alive.
