I have put in a pretty fair amount of time into Aion over this preview event and had the opportunity to level up a Assasin to lvl 11, and a Gladiator to lvl 15... I enjoy melee DPS type characters so I wanted to give these two a good run though. I am not a fan of the stealth mechanic of the assassin as it has a limited time duration. The gladiator was much more toe to toe in your face.
The game feels VERY PvE oriented and this is very apparent by the skills, at least the melee DPS skills.
When playing melee DPS in games like Warhammer and DAOC and even WOW the skills tend to feel more PVPcentric...
Here is a general PRO and CON list based on my play experience over the past 2 days.
PRO:
1. Combo Attacks... I love this and long missed these since DAOC.
2. Vibrant world and beautiful graphics.
3. Great sound and music.
4. Seems to have very low lag and I have a 5 year old system and everything seems to run silky smooth.
5. Evnvironmental and dropped item quests... So far I have found a few quests where an item drops and you click on it to get a quest, same thing where you can click on a poster or environmental object and get one too... Call me crazy I just enjoy these random type quests.
CONS:
1. My main con on this game is the Personal Store option... Any main area is like a Turkish Bazaar and at when released navigating the town areas will be an excersize in futility... There is a comprehensive auction system which should be good enough. This aspect reminds me of the worst element of most F2P games.
2. Groundhog Day... We have played this game before over and over and this one really doesn't bring anything new to the table... If anything it feels like a very polished F2P game... Runes of Magic offers a very similar experience sans the wings, and not as pretty.
3. Itemization is weak... It seems that for the most part only the main campaign quests offer items as rewards and they seem pretty far spread out... I don't enjoy wearing the same items for 10 or so levels... Mind you I didn't get involved in crafting and that could bring a completely different element into the game but wasn't part of my expereience.
OVERALL:
Guys and gals don't be fooled... you are playing a finished product here... and aside from some traslation issues and perhaps some minor tweaks (which still happen in full release games) this is it...
I give this game a 5/10... It feels to familiar and I can see PVP being a pain in the ass with people jumping around and "missing" chain attacks because they are out of range or jumped out of position to fast... For PVE this is fine, but Ranged will rule the roost in this aspect of the game, as I don't see any skills from the classes that i have played that allow you to close the distance. Chances are I will buy the game just to break up the monotony of what is presently being offered in the MMORPG world.
Game's I am anticipating:
Alganon
Hero's of Telara (looks very interesting)
Fallen Earth
Perhaps you all would like to share your experience based on the classes and or playstyle you prefer... Maybe some crafters can shed a little light in terms of itemization.
Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...

Dude what is your deal? You have nothing better to do than bash the game in a ridiculous manner. I don't even like Aion that much but get a grip. No one denies this game is polished, has great sounds (besides the Korean voices and lack of quest voice-overs), and has great graphics. In every post I've read from you about Aion, you are making ridiculous judgments on the game that completely destroys your credibility as a poster. Have you played any MMO in the last five years? if so, you'd be able to see that Aion is derivative but also extremely polished.

The noise your making is far worse than any in-game noise I've heard in any game, and "I bet" you will stil be here trolling as we move to release and to the end game. You seem to enjoy spending a lot of time on forums of games you dislike, which translates to that scratching sound chalk can make on a black-board. Good thing we have an "Ignore" feature on this forum.

But you only got your characters to 15ish, with the max on the preview being, what, 20? So, you haven't had the chance to actually experience the PVP yet, so why bother making assumptions concerning it, and not just wait? The PVP is a rather large part of Aion, and I promise you, from experience, it flows quite well in the process.
And concerning range, the casters have an OK casting range, but did you bother playing the ranger? If not, try to before the preview is over and check out the range. It's extremely shorter than the caster's range.

Well, he put Alganon as an "anticipated game." Yeah, considering that everything down to the graphics and landscape of that game looks just like WoW. Talk about "been there before." Hypocrite.
Hellgate? Really. Hellgate should never be used to compare anything. Including breathing. They had better have had atmosphere in that game, considering the rest of it sucked.
you say "fair amount of time" but you have 1 charcter at 11 (1 lvl above where you even get the class itself) and a 15....thats not very much time at all. and considering the biggest sell for this game is the pvp wich doesn't even start till 25. and not sure if you even looked it up but there is "extendible" weapons wich increases the range by alot for melee, think that chick from soul calibur with the sword that turned into a whip? daggers ,swords, maces, pole arms ect every melee weapon has an extendible type. a fair amount of time would be ATLEAST lvl 30+ for a real try at the game, considering all you've really played so far is the achtype for the classes not really much time at all for the real class itself. most don't get the "meat and potatoes" of teh classes till 30+ . that said try a rereview after you played the abyss a few lvls its alot more fun than the pve lvling wich at 15 (your max character) all you've done. hell rangers are PAINFULLY boring to lvl till 16 when they start getting more bow attacks

Yo sol, broseph, why is it that you still post under the Aion forums if you dislike the game?
I can't help but wonder this too. I stopped enjoying World of Warcraft and haven't even gone back to Wowhead's forums which I frequented daily numerous times since I quit. There's no point in lingering around in forums for games/hobbies that you don't enjoy. Move along, it will be okay if you're not here to try and hold our hands and tell us the game isn't good. I'm sure if we had the same opinion as yours we wouldn't even be reading these messages.
well i guess that why they add new weapons in next patch
Bottom Line is don't knock the PvP until you try it.
The 5/10 score is more or less a review based on what I have experienced so far... I do plan on buying the game and giving it a fair try upon release at which time I can ammend my review either positive or negative.
There was a comment made about Alganon, and how it looks just like WOW etc. Well if it plays like WOW I will be thoroughly disappointed... The character development seems much more intense especially adding an offline element like EVE which rewards longevity in the game. But who knows... For me gaming was never about the graphics anyhow it was always more about the play/imersion... I also like that it is being self published by a relatively indy game company... This is a good thing... Less of a corporate stranglehold... Even though thre is a love hate affair with Darkfall... Indy game developers are very healthy for the industry.
What was interesting in Aion, wsa the Abyss system which seemed a lot like the older WOW system where you got ranks based on how "leet" of a PVPer you are... I am not familiar with the NCSoft implimentation of PVP in general as I never played Lineage II past beta. For some reason it just doesn't feel like that much of a PVPcentric game, at least to me. I am relatively experienced in MMO's having played them so damn long... even before UO where on line games were hourly subscriptions and my parents would flip out over a $200+ CC Bills for games per month LOL! Kingdom of Drakkar cost me like $450 one month iirc... LOL
If you played the Chinese or Korean versions please chime in on the PVP experience as a melee DPS as I see it now based on looking at the skills it is going to be a kite fest, where rangers and mages just kite you from afar especially when you factor in an X, Y, Z axis from flight... This is only a presumption, so if you have experience from the Asian versons please feel free to correct me here.
Believe me I want AION to be an awesome game... I am just not a big fan of NCSoft's games in general... Not in the way most of you are like OMFG I fuxxing hate @#$@#$@$ Sony... but NCSoft's games never seemed all that great... I wanted Tabula Rasa to be good in such a bad way... then I played it I was so disappointed.
Oh one more pet peeve of the game aside from the Personal store element, is the damn title system... where titles grant stats etc... Everyone is more or less walking around with their Tree hugger/ Protector... etc title... this is just more or less an annoying aspect that takes away from immersion, seeing players names 4" acress the screen because they are Tree Hugger or Fluent in Krail or whatever... If there is a way to disable this maybe I haven't loooked hard enough. But I would like to see them at least put titles under the name like Warhammer.
What are your other Hobbies?

wigger man should stay away from asian games weeabo, how's that?
Wighty hide the titles on settings
I've got to say that you can't fairly judge this game until you actually start going in to the Abyss, which I don't think anyone in this weekend got to do (25+), the main aspect of this game is Aerial PvP/RvR, and you can't really start doing that until Abyss.
After level 25, the game has a huge grind! It is terrible, however, it is fun grind and the game is really fun!
To each their own. I like it but I promise you 90% of the WoW haters hate the game not because they are sick of hearing about and are ready for something new. WoW can be compared at least in some ways to any other MMO. It's not a bad thing. If you want a game that's not like WoW it's probably because you don't the hype. The basics of WoW are just general MMOness and should AND will be in pretty much every other MMO before it and after... just something to think about.
The only things I enjoyed about WoW was the massive amounts of quests in each zone, and the much later implemented achievement system. The things I hated about WoW was the elitist community and the children/gold sellers/guild recruiters spamming trade channel/LFG channel--I realize this is in a lot of MMOs but with a community as big as WoW it was more rampant. The end-game was poorly designed as well. If you get to the level cap too late, atleast on my server, you'd better figure out a way to pull some strings to get "carried" for a bit, since your crafted / starter epics aren't 1337 enough for the ub3r guildz.
WoW was a ton of fun in the original game, mostly because people were always looking for more people for the 40 man raids since people would leave them and would need replacements. Now with the 25 and especially 10 mans its much harder to squeeze yourself into the end-game community without some friends/acquaintances in the raiding guilds.
My taste in MMOs has changed since I started WoW as well. I used to have tons of freetime to raid and grind for gold. But now my time isnt as bountiful so I want a game to relax and play with for an hour or two. Aion seems to have given me this (so far). I'm not sure how long I'll have fun in Aion, but hopefully long enough until something else comes along--because quite simply nothing else in the market has any interest to me.
