Best MMORPG for whole family?

Hello everyone!

Me and my wife have been playing Entropia Universe for years now, and I can recommend it to all families  We have nice and active community around EU. Greatest benefit compared to some MMORPGs is that we have pretty mature player base, 3/4 or even more are adults... and big part of the minors are kids of adult players

So if you are looking for a good online game for whole family, give Entropia Universe a go

Regards

P.S. If you know some other game I should try, post it here.

  2. Free Realms
  3. World of Warcraft
  4. Wizard101
  5. Final Fantasy
  6. RuneScape
  7. Atlantica Online

Check out Free Realms and EQ2. Both games seem to be great for family and small groups of friends who like playing together.

The biggest limiting factor in MMOs for the whole family, is how old are the children. For real young children, things like club penguin and toon town were ok. As kids enter into middle school, wiz 101 and free realms become more viable (and a lot more enjoyable to adults). Older Pre teens and teens will enjoy most MMOs with the family (assuming they still want to be associated with their parents) and games like WoW, EQ2, and CoX are solid choices

Hmm..I have played Entropia Universe, and how you can say that this game is suitable for kids is beyond me..

I played it when It was in it's early stages, at that time a common gamer could still purchase some things without getting ruined.
Even at the time I played this game it costed more than any regular MMO/month I ever played, and I promise I didn't spend that much.

Entropia Universe is basically a lottery in MMO clothing, and even worse now when the economy has grown somewhat to a point where everything costs hillarious amounts of money, some players even buys entire islands and space stations for close to a million PED.

Even for some grown up's this game spells doom if they can't handle their money properly.

First MMORPG with a real cash economy.

So now I can feel poor in reality and in cyberspace!

Sounds to me like the OP is trying to increase the base of the pyramid.  The marketing of the game as something for the "whole family" seems a bit disingenuous, since it has nothing to offer young children (aside from maybe a life of poverty after the online casino sucks out all the parents' money.)

I would recommend Free Realms for those who are reading the post because of the title, but have no delusion that the OP will read this and take note, because it seems to me that the title is quite deceptive.

Oh, yea... my bad. Didn't actually think small children, more like teenage kids and their parents, or married couples....

It's not even suited for teenagers, It's a lottery and in most countrys you have to be 18 or 20 to play in the casino or other such activities..

Yes, when I played Project Entropia I also played it for fun, atleast that was the mindset I had when me and a couple of friends was playing it.

But the truth is that some players really can't ignore the winner or looser(money) mentality that this whole concept is about unless you are VERY careful..

Thank you for the input this far :)

    # EverQuest II

    # Free Realms

    # World of Warcraft

Have tried Wow a bit but was not that interesting for me. Free Reals seems to be suitable for youngsters but not really something for me. EQ2 needs to be tested

FFXi because it has the selection for all,a hulking Galkan or an Elven or a human or a cute lil tarutaru. Now the age limit would have to be at least 12 years i would say for the whole family to play well. The game is totally group orientated ,so you must work together ,unlike many game where being together in a group is merely superficial, with no purpose.

EQ2 is also a good game for this same purpose.WOW of course is the same thing so again a decent game for the whole family. The one problem with WOW is that you WILL encounter foul mouth kids,so beware and be forwarned.

WIZ 101 and freerealms are very good if you are involving a VERY young child, easy to play, cool mechanics for kids, fun for all and safe playing environment for the young one.Keep in mind they are geared towards the VERY young ,so if you want an ADULT based game with a challenge ,you won't get it here.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Free Realms and Wizard 101 are probably the two I would put at the top of my list, unless you have teenagers, then I would suggest others like Wow, Lord of the Rings, or even the upcoming Aion.   Most certainly would not recommend EQ2, it is just a dead game with few redeeming qualities.

For the whole family? Um, Helly Kitty online?

  • luckypotatoluckypotato Member Posts: 251

I know ill probably get flamed for this..

But Runescape is a good game for the whole family IMO, if you dont care much about graphics.

Be warned tho, it is more of a "hardcore" game. Grinding is a big part of the game. In my openion the only fun part of it is PKING (because you get full loot).. and all the grinding is worth it at the end of the day after pwning a bunch of noobs and making a bunch of money in my openion.

This is not a kiddy game that holds your hand, it is a true sandbox..

Edit: For all the ex-runescapers like i was.. the wildy is back.

Atlantica online is a very good family game, teaches kids how to make a proper formation, how to use it not just point click button mash your skills and call it a day.  Atlantica you need to put some thought into what u going to do.  Its what I would recommend, plus has nice community and has a language filter so parents relax :D

    World of Warcraft.

It offers something for everyone and people of all ages find it fun and accessible. Games like EQ2 your kids wont probably like and Free Realms is for kids so you probably wont like it.

You can't go wrong with WoW and considering it is the highest rated and most popular, best place to start and theres a free trial.

Lord of the Rings online can be a very nice MMO for the whole Family, though it depents whether your family likes PvE or not.

Dark age of Camelot, it is not that popular and not a new MMO but it can be fun for the whole Family too. I met there infact guys who played this game with their wife and kids together.
