Turbines big announcement next week

RokurgeptaRokurgepta Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,136

Being as both Community Reps on the DDO forums are taking off a letter from their sig each day and the twitter leaks it looks like there is something coming on Tuesday.  I am hoping there is more news then just MOD 9 release date coming and they really do need to explain as they have said they would what all this delay was about.

Yes I know some of you think DDO is healthy and thriving, you can go right on living in that world, the rest of us who live in reality can see that some of DDOs biggest defenders over the last three years have decided enough is a enough. DDO needs a huge advertising push to go along with MOD9 or they may never get back what they have lost. Their reasons for all of this non communication need to be fully explained and for Turbines sake they better have been good reasons that now mean this game can become great. If their reasons end up lame or their big announcement is a console port this game will be in trouble.

I really do hope they have something big that makes me want to resub, but everytime they screw up I become a little less interested in what they are doing.

I was just telling my friend today (who joined us in Warhammer after giving up on Turbine) that it doesn't matter if they announce that DDO can now cure cancer, there is no way they are going to recover all that they have lost during this whole debacle.

It is sad but true that there is only so much people can take, and Turbine has gone way beyond extreme in their handling of this issue. It's a new low for even them...

I'm curious to what the announcement will be, but at the same time not really convinced there's much depth behind it. I certainly don't agree with some who claim Turbine is buying "rights" for the IP since they could already advertise today without having to own them. Buying the rights would be an absurd waste of money on an MMO that is only returning a paltry sum of cash.

Atari has a financial interest in DDO's success, a lawsuit or "cease and desist" on the basis of Turbine advertising makes no sense at all, since Atari stands to financially gain from such actions. Only those horribly uneducated in business would claim that some sort of contractual breach would occur from a partner working to make a particular venture a success. Just because one partner fails to do their job, does not mean the other cannot keep moving forward. Turbine has failed miserably in doing so. Furthermore, if Atari has refused to advertise or re-release one must ask the question, what is it about DDO that Atari deems unworthy of additional financial investment? I think the answer is obvious. Poor numbers from the start (insider estimates Turbine saw no more than 120k subs in its 3 year history), and even poorer numbers as the game went on have doomed its fate.

If it could cure cancer I think that would definately gets the subs up. But if all they are doing is buying the IP or buying out Ataris end of the D&D, they do not just have DDO rights they have all of D&D rights, that alone means nearly nothing for the DDO itself. Turbine having the right to advertise( I think they always could have as I find it hard to believe Atari would stop them) does not mean they will do enough for DDO. To this point DDO itself is not a success and Turbine doing a huge marketing push makes no sense unless they are doing a relaunch with DVDs in stores to go along with advertising.

The DDO website has been taken down, so maybe something is (finally) happening?

Well the big day is here and the announcement is a huge one. DDO is going free to play. Of course they will have pay options and a cash shop as most free to plays have.

First off this prove the DDO is growing theory was just that a theory and is not a failed theory. You simply do not go F2P if you are actually in a state of growth.

Delaying MOD9, not that it will be seperate now, is as usual a bad choice by Turbine. The players who waiting all this time while basicly being lied to deserved better. Todays announcement should have been followed with the release of something that added to the game.

Adding insult to injury Turbine basicly sent out a threat to anyone thinking of cancelling telling them thyat if they do they will not be able to renew until the Launch of the free to play. Why is it Turbine always makes poor decisions even when making a huge one like today? They are basicly threatening people into staying until the new game replaces the old. That is about as pathetic as a game can get.  This would also mean no new accounts can start for 3 or more months. Who thought up such a great idea? Get a big push today but make sure anyone trying to come early or come back to get in on the beta is locked out? For a management team they make good stall muckers in a barn.

Turbine did a lot of shady things with MOD9 and they better hope todays announcement really helps them.

What a sad excuse for a game... really.

I fully endorsed this product for several years, but realized the carrot on the end of the stick started to get rotten and smelly.  I knew something bad was going to happen to this game, and here it is!

I will NEVER buy or even look at another Turbine game, all they do is buy licenses and destroy them.

Very glad I cancelled my membership last year waiting for this supposed Mod 9, when they couldn't even finish the last Mod they released.

    Goodbye forever, was never fun.
