ATI - enough is enough...

I've put up with your shoddy HD4870 Vista 64 drivers for 8 months.  Endless crashes, freezes and bsod. You were improving then you released you last driver and it crashes constantly... while playing WoW... probably the least graphically intensive mainstreet MMO out there....  back to NVidia I go, never to purchase ATI cards again...

ATI has some kind of error running WoW for some reason where the fps drops to shit, it's always talked about on the forums. However that being said, they make very good "bang for the buck" cards campared to nvidia, except that it motherf**king runs HOT!

I use the back of my case exhaust tower to warm up my feet...

The card worked well with the previous driver so I don't think it's the card, besides... if it was f*cked from the start it would have gone back to newegg... the fact that I'm lazy is irrelevant, I'm tighter than I am lazy...

It dies in EVE and WAR also, and sometimes Spider Solitaire or Hearts...   and when I first got it, idle at desktop... but I think that was a mobo bios SW problem that I fixed.

oh, bad drives happen ever so often with both ATI and NVEDIA. uninstall the old drives and do a drive clean then reinstall the last good drive.

use this after you uninstall your drives to clean up anything left behind so its a clean install.

We'll if your running Catalyst thats the problem and your right the thing should work but it never really has. If not you might throw a little of that venom Microsoft's way. I got mine for 169 $ and have never had a problem, and with the performance I get all I can say is thank you ATI. Of course the minute I load catalyst everything crashes.

No guarantee, but try disabling Catalyst A.I. under 3d settings.

Sorry to hear you had problems... I too run Vista 64 with that card and have yet to have a single issue with Eve, or any other game that I play.

  • I have been using ATIs most of my days, they save on the heating.

Rollback to previous driver and get rid of god awful Catylist software.

There have been 4 or 5 driver updates in the last 8 months..  With you being the only one having BSODs while playing Hearts, I would tend to think YOU have an issue and not ATI. Did you un-install your previous driver properly.. etc ?

Your video card might not be getting enough power or it may be faulty. But it is somewhat laughable for you to be blamming someone else for not seeking help sooner. As it's more than obvious that it is not a driver issue.

Last driver release 9.5 was bad for me as well.  I rolled back instead of trying again.  Most problems encountered with bad drivers are a result of a bad install.  Not a bad driver package.  Like if something interrupts the install, or you don't give your system the time to shutdown on its own.

Whats odd about the recent ATI driver releases is that they don't require a restart.  I fear that something that should be installed on boot isn't because of that.

Some developers purposely make their games run worse on ATI cards because they are in the nVidia Network.

I own 3 Nvidia cards and 1 ATI..   I have no problems with either. Specific issues are just that...  specific.

Mythic had problems with ATi cards, not Warhammer. As the problem was with their own coding.

I have an ATI 4870 as well with Vista 64bit Ultimate edition, and I've never had one problem.  I keep the most updated driver, v9.5 is the current one I believe.  Maybe your card has some issues and needs to be RMA'd?  Or perhaps it's another hardware issue, like a chipset driver issue on your mboard.

I regressed back to v9.4 and also did a BIOS update... my P5Q Pro was bad at the start and it took a few BIOS updatres to get it stable... lets see how that goes for a while...
