I was thinking the same thing when I saw the forums. I don't understand how it can have a huge community being stolen from rs with that little members on the forums. Or rs really is that bad that people would switch to this :O
Looks like pokeman anyone?

Eternum's fantasy style is cool too... Habbo tbh just looks a bit too childish, but I suppose it's easier on the eye than Runescape's awkward polygons.
I can;t believe this discussion is still going on .... Runescape is a broken game and Eternum looks ancient. Madness... LMAO!
Runescape has potential if the devs pulled their heads out , but they want it to be a kiddie game.. might as well be comparing it to Hello Kitty, rather than a real mmo. Jagex's pr reps call it a" junior mmo, a Starter MMO" themselves, why should anyone else take it seriously if their own people do not believe in their game.
"Adam Tuckwell is the “Safety Minister” and Head of PR at Jagex. He was proud to talk to me about Runescape's effort to make the game a safe environment for under children under the age of 13. Previously, players had to to be 13+ to play the game. Runescape launched the under 13 game in June. This provides a Quick Chat interface, and children under 13 can only see Quick Chat text from other players of the under 13 game. This game is Coppa compliant, and have been awarded Best in Class by the IWF (Internet Watch Foundation). Since the launch of the under 13 game, Jagex has seen a 40% increase in Runescape registrations.
In the Quarter 2 or 3 of 2009, the Parental Controls dashboard will be launched. This provides parents with the means to set how often and how long their children can play Runescape, set various chat settings and have various controls over their children's Friends List – such as the ability to add friends with or without parental approval.
Just as MUDs were the precursors to MMORPGs, Henrique described Runscape as a Junior MMORPG. A great training ground for other MMORPGs. "

The reason it's still going on is because, if you actually read the thread, the subject was not "compare and contrast the graphics of Eternum Online and Runescape".

Runescape being a broken game has NOTHING to do with graphix .. lol The economy is out of whack with the supply and demand for items, the trade system is a joke, the cutomer serivce is deplorable , the community is terrbile, and there is no reason to gain levels in the game because there are no rewards for doing so. All it is is a repititious time sink, and is that way because the developers want their game to appeal to young children.
I find this funny coming from a Runescape player...
Not funny... I don't think anyone can call Runescape's graphics laughable anymore. Eternum may upgrade and go 3d but Runecape will always have the best graphics and art direction of any MMO out there...

When you all keep saying that it looks awful and it's so terrible and all of the other insults you hurl as if there's a thousand better fish in the sea to choose from, what the hell are you comparing it to?
Runescape is a Java browser game that you can open and play from almost anywhere within a couple of minutes to load for the first time, it takes no space on your computer, and just about anyone can run it . On top of all of this, it offers a very large well designed MMO for free, and three or four times as much gameplay for $6 a month.
In the OP it was clearly stated, then quickly forgotten that there are very few games in this class of play, I personally have not had the chance or urge to play Eternum Online, and by looking over the website, screenshots, and reviews, I still have no urge to start.
Anyone who's tried it can list dozens of things to hate it for, but as far as the question of Java Vs PHP/AJAX goes based on these two games.. I believe JAGEX has clearly, and very successfully engineered much more around Java with many more handicaps against them than most of you are giving them credit for.
(also, throw in a few basic colors, and the original pokemon, pathetically looks better than the clip art-like screenshot of whatever game that was)
EDIT: I forgot to answer. Based on nothing more than these two games, JAVA is the victor.

No, I have all the standard settings.
EO is seriously fast and responsive for me in Firefox... a good decision to use pixelart graphics which dont take ages to load.
Careful there... pixelart = habbo hotel.
I went on EO's forums, there were 47 people registered on them, with 38 posts..
I think the company who made it may be slightly misleading, they should take out the first 'M' in MMORPG
?

I happen to love pixelart graphics, take a look at gooncity for a really cool collaborative effort: http://ryanallen.com/gooncity/index.htm

You mean Pokemon? And no, Eternum looks nothing like Pokemon. More like Ultima...
You stick with your opinion and I'll stick with mines. It looks like blue and red version from gameboy advanced to me =P

Oh, yes. They look EXACTLY the same!
Looks nothing like pokemon. The person who suggested that's as crazy as the person who thinks Runescape has better graphics than AOC.

The graphical revamp is actually really nice. (Eternum not Runescape)

Not laughable any more, no. But the best?
I have yet to play ONE game that matches the realism and atmosphere of Runescape. Single player or multiplayer.

Okay, let's face it, Runescape looks AWFUL! I hate that they have the cheek to call it "HD"...
