Thinking about starting a new MMO...

Well. I am thinking about starting to play a new MMO, until around this christmas, as I shall probably pick up on Aion.

However, I need something in the mean time to fill my time.

I would prefer some free to play games, and I am not at all fussed by grinding.

Please bear in mind that I have played WoW, and have got bored of it.. (shock, horror)

Prior to wow I played pretty much every F2P game that was being tested / released in 2007. After that, I'm pretty much a nooby to the free to play scene, and am open to suggestions to games that have opened since then, or before then!

I heard Ether Saga Online was an alright game?

Anyone have any decent suggestions? I'd appreciate them greatly <3

Runes of Magic is quite good and well polished and the dual-job system is interesting.

But beyond that it is very much your standard fare WoW-type MMO. Lots of quests, levels, etc. Still, no cost to download and no cost to play, and the item shop stuff only sells convenience items so you won't feel like you aren't as good.

Beyond that I have heard very good things about Atlantica Online, but it's a turn based, group combat strategy thing not your standard MMO combat stuff.

My brother used to play Runes of Magic, but thought the RMT system was crap - Something like $250 to get the best End-Game Gear?

I'm against people becoming the best solely through a premium shop...

Sure, if it was mainly cosmetic - would be amazing. But it isn't. You practically get forced into buying through RMT, as the game is impossible at end game without this investment.

Meh, 'spose I am slightly picky :P

Its only like that if you're dead set on having the best character with every advantage available to you. If you're a more casual player then a $20 mount is about all you'd need.

Your question was something to fill your time whilst waiting for Aion - so you really don't have to worry about the spend to max a character - you don't need to.

RoM is worth a look at because it can be played free. I left the game because of class imbalance, but it was fun whilst I played it and the duel class system is kinda fun.

You may also want to look at TCoS.
