The graphics seem the same to me, cutscenes or not. Aion gives more detail to models than the enviroment, a good armor will look good in normal enviroment. That is not saying the game is being used at max, but the way they are using it lets you make chars/amors to look as detailed as the cutscenes, I found no difference.
I suppose I could sit there with photoshop and make comparisons, but why bother. All I know is on my GTX-280 in the regular world with every effect turned all the way up at 1920x1200 it looks only marginally better than World of Warcraft (on an 8 cpu machine no less - which Aion only used one cpu of).
2. Gameplay 3/5 - Aion plays like almost every other MMO that I've played, you click on enemy... You run towards enemy, you start to hit enemy, you press hot-keys to use fancy looking skills that deal more damage to add the finishing touches. It's simple, it looks fairly pretty, but it's nothing ground breaking. Flight combat is great, but the fact that you're flying doesn't truly change up the combat a whole lot. It's still that "generic" concept of using all your hot-keys, and following through with combinations.
You do know that you get bonuses for movement right? It actually encourages you to not stand still.
Yes, I'm aware that you get a bonus from moving in any certain direction, but it didn't make enough of a difference for me to do so. I jumped around from time to time, but it was easier to just sit there and smack them around until they died.
Overall: Mediocre. Yes, I know, before you fanbois jump into post how what I've said is blasphemy at least 'try' to listen to the points.
1. Graphics 3/5 - Aion is a great looking game, don't get me wrong. However, I don't think it's as revolutionary as I had thought it was going to be, despite running the game on max resolution, full graphics, and trying all three different types of bloom I couldn't seem to find that greatness that I saw in the Aion videos. I'm not sure what the issue is, but hopefully, it's because it was beta? Maybe all the shaders and textures aren't in yet, if that's the case well then I can't wait until I can see the final product.
/Wrist - I'm done.
I've said this in my thread too. There's something wrong with the way Aion was portrayed, they showed all the cities and high-end armour and their best places in the videos. Lots of places don't have anywhere that sort of finish, especially the starter cities are bland and boring. Much worse than WoW, I would say worse than EQ in some cases.
Aion would be an ok game as a F2P game, but it's not going to cut it in the West as P2P.

In the cutscenes it looked almost legendary.
This is how armors are supposed to look like while playing (with some duels in between):
If it does not look like this then something is wrong there.

Everyone has their tastes, but to me that's a gross exageration.

Agreed. with the exception of the Northshire abby, I found all the starting areas in WoW to be rather lacking. I can only comment on Poeta for Aion, but I thought it looked pretty good. parts of it better than others, but overall I thought it was a good starting area, just too linear for my taste.
and oh god the backtracking, that was really annoying.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

It's still that "generic" concept of using all your hot-keys, and following through with combinations. It may seem dull and boring, but if you spend some time reading the mechanics behind it all you will realize that eventually the simple you describe will need to be re-looked at if there is such a word..I looked at the chains tab and realized that I was doing it all wrong with my setup. 1 ability needs to be followed or started by another specific ability to have a successful chain of events during a fight. I give it 4/5 it may change remember the key word here is "beta"
Ok, I am sorry... I usually don't flame specific people here but if you needed to look at the chains tab to realize that you were spamming your skills in the wrong order, you need to headbutt the sidewalk. Aion, while I do enjoy it, has one of THE SIMPLEST skill systems I have ever used.
I don't think Aion has the most simple skill system.. far from it. thats not to say its complex, but look at what we have to compare it to? most MMOs these days are pretty simple when it comes to using your skills. success tends to come more from situational awareness than anything else.

Yeah it looks like that, but your camera is out 30-40 yards most of the time.
Btw not saying I am right or you wrong, but consider this: The lightning in ascension quest is different than the places we usually run, the sarting armors have less details than the ones in the ascension or others. Peraphs that might be the cause.

Actually it is all outposts till 10 when you get to the capital, but if memory serves, you did not make it to 10. So other than the fact you never seen a real "city" ,or the story line for that matter , all you've seen is just tents and barriers.
The outposts do indeed seem smaller than hordes two before you get to the Orc city. Other than that you just seem bitter and biased chiming in on other threads to justify your ignorance.

have to agree here......i found myself asking...whats the point to all this???

The pink dress of the girl in this thread seems to have good detail, for example: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/253/view/forums/thread/239129/page/3
