My new monitor bought specifically for FFXI and FFXIV!

KhrymsonKhrymson Member UncommonPosts: 3,090

Sold my XBox 360 sooner than I thought, as I never played it anymore, and I'm always on my PC the most usually playing MMOs!  Anyway, as the title suggests, I'm now ready to return to FFXI and eventually once FFXIV gets here I'm definitely ready for that as well!  Now just need to install FFXI and get it started on updating!

Just bought this ProScan 40" LCD 1080P HDTV from Best Buy tonight, was on sale for $499, mainly to be used as my new PC monitor.  Unfortunately the DVI to HDMI cable I ordered isn't here yet so I'm stuck in VGA Custom 1600*1050 resolution atm, when I should be getting 1920*1080.  Won't go higher than that for now, so I'm assuming I need that cable to maximize it to its native resolution!

Anyway, just for giggles my old 22" monitor is sitting next to it to show the size difference...this is just insane and I'm in great awe.........still!  {The image is of my 2 Labrador Retrievers playing!}

Anyone else have a huge ass monitor they'd like to show off!?

I'll be buying one of thoes new 22 inch 120hz monitors comming down the pike. I am also looking foward to Black Prophesy and any type of ghosting is unacceptable in an FPS.

That big a screen should be awesome for FFXIV though congrats.

Yeah ... i plan on getting a new PC for FFXIV just like I did for FFXI, but this time I'll have it for launch -- in all honesty FFXI was my first MMO so I didn't have my feet wet enough to modivate me to get it right away. I plan on waiting for a release date then adding 18 months to that (ya know ... standard Square Enix protocol for releasing games) and planning my new machine around then. See what technology is like at that time so I can have a high-mid range rig that will last me a while.

My PC was a beast a year ago when I bought it, custom built Quad core, dual loading XP Pro and Vista Ult 64 bit, 4gb DDR2 ram and 2x 8800 GTS with Sli Bridge. Its still able to run at high on games released to date, and should stay that way for another year, the only differenc is the price would be 300-400 cheaper today as to the date I bought it.

Good God man. Didn't your mother ever tell you about sitting to close to the TV?

That thing looks like it would melt your face if you sat in front of it to long.

Now just to find one for myself >.<

Know what ya mean Icon, when I started FFXI my PC barely registered a 1500 score from the Vana'diel Benchmark, and now this one I built and paid nearly $3k for fall of 2007 is still holding its own and will be more than likely just fine for FFXIV and beyond.  I don't see games or MMOs getting much better for awhile, as thats proving not to be the best course to get subscribers.  Gotta keep MMOs primarily accessible to all parties that enjoy an MMO.

I've got 4GB of RAM currently and after Windows 7 releases, I may go up to 8GB along with that just cause I can, and possibly upgrade my 8800GTS video card to something a little better.  Monitor is covered now for pretty much good now, any larger would be too much.

Speaking of which Icon, did ya run the Vana'diel Benchmark yet...I wanna know what scores ya get!?

Mine again were, for others to see that missed that thread:

9501 on Low, and 7950 on High settings

Well, yeah but who listens to advice like that...hehe

Did a bit of research and the minimal viewing distance recommended is at 4ft from an HDTV this size.  Sitting upright I'm about 3-3.5 ft away, and if I lean back I hit the 4ft mark, so I'm good it seems.  I've toned down the brightness and contrast a bit, but the major thing atm is the extremely extra "eyelage"  {oh oh, did I make a new word...rofl} I'm racking up atm as I get used to it!

You should get one, $499 is a damn good deal for this size and quality!

I downloaded and ran the FFXI Benchmark 3 here are the results

    9079 . Low - 6860 . High

PC Specs: Q6600 CPU, Quad Core Pentium Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, 4GB DDR2 Ram, 2 nVIDIA 8800 GTS 256mbs Video Cards, Win Vista Ult 74x bit, maxtor 500gb 7200rpm HDD, and a lot of cooling by fans in side the case (1x250mm fan, 3x40mm fans, 5x80mm fans - 3 on the back, 1 on the window side, 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom, 1 on the CPU for optimal cooling)

I also CLEAN the fans and ENTIRE case of dust once every 3 months - The inside fans become CAKED with dust so much that some fans - the one on the CPU esspesially - clogg and stop moving due to dust build up.

Nice scores, and yeah after having failed to clean my video card in my last PC, and having it burn up on me, I clean my entire PC and spend a good deal of time on it every few weeks.  I've got 2 dogs so lots of hair is floating around sometimes as well as dust bunny armies...hehe

OMG, does this game even hae a release date? By the time SE finishes this game, if there track record with FFXIII is any indication, we'll all be p[laying games holographically and driving hover cars.

Good news is your great grand children can sell that monitor as an antique and make a mint

Yup, and has been in development for 5 years already.  I trust SE to have it out by Fall of 2010, Winter at the latest!

oh that's cool I never knew about the benchmark program. Just gave it a whirl and my marks were H=8619 and L=10719. Man I need to do some maintenance on my machine big time.

I got 46" 1080p lcd and 22" monitor but I just use the 46" when playing console games as it's way too big for sitting in front of it ;)
