ill play to check it out and see how it goes. The micro-transaction wont really matter if its small, pointless stuff like items to make your guy look better, or pets, name changer ect.
I dont care if its that type of stuff they put on - nothing game breaking etc.
If they start shoving XP boosts, +10 stats rings and other stuff that bossts your character the more you pay out to make it a disadvantage to others not doing so, then no - i will not play, and i think alot of others wont play either due to the i guess "unfairness" of the game itself. More you pay, the more you kick others - but there will be people who will use this to their advantage and crank out money to become the best.
Im a student and personally i can only afford a monthly sub to a MMO, and dont want to waste more money on stuff like that.
But till then i will wait and see what they will have.
They introduced this in CoH/V. They have small "packs" that include costumes and emotes. Nothing that alters the play experience for others. If they follow the same premise, then it shouldn't be game breaking.
I think that most mainstream North american players are against micro transactions. Its like being hit with hidden fees from the airlines. I expect no MT in CO

Not when done the way CoH does it. Everyone is assuming these "microtransactions" have an affect on gameplay, when we have seen no evidence of that.
The way CoH does microtransactions is certainly not the way F2P games do them. In CoH they are a minor perk, not the core of the game. I dont see why Champions would be any different.
So you get to wear a special helmet with the Cryptic logo on it or something if you pay an extra $5....BFD.

Anarchy Online has this too, customes and hoverbikes and that stuff ^_^ its pretty normal so if CO would stick to that no1 would have a prob with it. the "item mall" idea however, will keep me from playing
MMOs currently playing: - About to play: Lord of the Rings Online Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
Just out of curiosity what micro transactions does EQ2 have? Are you talking about the one isolated server where you can sell/buy your character and items?

They changed that about 5 months ago. All servers have item shops now. A lot of it is cosmetic and not a major game changer, but opinions differ on that. I won't hijack this thread. You can check out the eq2 forum to read more about it.

The item shop in EQ2 doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't buy anything from it as it is mostly just pets, cosmetic stuff and really has no impact on the game.
Personally, I wont. I'll try it for a week, but something that should be added free should be added free. This is especially true when if I'm paying $15 a month too, cause that money is for developing the game and other costs.
This concept doesn't bother me at all either. As everyone else says, the P2P games typically don't include game changing microtransactions. It's usually stuff like appearance armor, house items, etc. I like games that include these optional items. I actually ended up purchasing some armor sets in EQ2, and loved em.
I'll play it regardless. Microtransactions, like it or not, are going to be more and more prevalent in online gaming. It's going to take some trial and error for developers to find the exact model that works, and it may be rough for a while, but I'm not about to let that ruin my fun and stop me from trying out a game that I've been looking forward too.
With more MMO's coming out that are worth playing, not having to put out 15/month for each one has a lot of appeal for me.
