Can anyone name a MMO that is realistically impossible to reach max level?

heremypetheremypet Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 528

Any type of MMO with levels where there is either no maximum obtainable level or the effort required to reach max level is basically impossible.

I don't care if it's outdated off the wall F2P P2P 2D or anything else..   does such a game even exist?

First one that comes to mind is perfect world max level is 120 just to give an idea from level 100-101 the tnl is basicly what it took you to go from 1-100 or so thats what im told , no intention of finding out.

Ryzom is very close to it, it gonna take years to get all skills to max. Not sure if any player has done it the years Ryzom has been.

Ryzom has 250 levels in all skills and there is alot of skills (maybe 50).  How ever, all skills includes harvesting and crafting skills too, not just combat.

Would EVE fall into this catagory?

    EVE

you can never hope to train every skill in that game to max... new once keep coming out also hehe... so EVE nobody has every skill in that game trained.  Iv been playing since 2004 and I do not even have half of all the skill trained to max.

Actually there is 1 person I know of who has every skill trained so far, even ones that have been removed from the early game. There was someone else who was very close as well. Of course they are not maxed, but every skill is not that far fetched.

Edit for spelling because it's to damn early.

Edit(2) I guess I forgot about the new expansion. Doubt he has the new ones that came with that lol.

Tibia sounds like a game you may be interested in.  It's a 2D game from the late 90's but it receives major updates every 6 months, so it still grows and improves on a regular basis.  There is no max level.  It's worth looking into.  You can make a free account which will have some restrictions like class promotions. spells, and area limitations.  If you find that you really like the game you can get a premium account to unlock everything.  The community is the strongest I've ever seen in any MMO and I've played a lot of 'em.  No other game comes close.  I played it for 2 and a half years, first MMO I ever played, and the one I spent the most time on.  You can improve your character by standing in town making ammo/runes and just hanging out with people.  It's set in a fantasy sword and sorcery style, with healer, dps mage, knight and distance/magic hybrid classes.  It can be a lot of fun, and there are no limits to how strong you can build your character through leveling or raising skills.  The skill system is also limitless, which allows you to raise sword fighting, distance fighting, shielding, magic level, club fighting, even fishing.  There are a lot of other skills to train too.  I'd advise you to look into it if you're interested in a game with no level cap and a strong community/interesting character progression system.

Lineage 1.  To my knowledge there is no level cap.

Once you get to level 49, each level afterwards requires the same amount of experience that it took you to get previously (ie.level 50 takes same number of points at 1-49 combined, 51 takes same number of points as 1-50 etc.)

Last time I checked there were a few characters in the NA servers in the 70's....

EVE Online, as there are no levels and skill development will require years to be maxed out, however it may not be appealing to you as you seem like one that wants to be hardcore, and skill development in EVE is automatic with ETAs, being hardcore will have no effect on it.

Tibia must be interesting for those that don't care playing on outdated graphics, considering there are people playing it even though its graphics look like have been made from a Paint-based engine and it has no sounds at all.

Currently I don't know any MMO with unlimited levels.

You might consider Mabinogi.  Now that rebirthing is freebie at age 20, you can achieve effective unlimited cumulative levels, however, levels meen little compared to the AP you get with each level,, these AP are then spent to raise your skills..  Yeah, it's theorerically possible to max out in ALL skills in the game, but the level grinding involved, even with rebithing every 3 weeks (resets your level to 1, but you keep any skills and associated stat/hp gains) it would take even the most dedicated grinder (or most sophisticated bot) years, especially with transformation skills involved

Now, more importantly: Is it fun?   I think so.   The fact that what skills (and thus your abilities and stats) you improve are entirely up to you, you have a level of customizability unseen since the days of Pre-CU SWG   (Yes, I played, but that's a can of worms I refuse to open here)   Yeah, running the same dungeons gets a bit repetitive, but there's nothing quite so satisfying as going back and dominaing a dungeon that gave you trouble earlier in your life.

If fantasy games aren't your bag, well, yeah, I would suggest EvE the same as the other guys.  just be prepared for what you're getting into.    As the joke goes, it stands for Everybody vs Everybody..   Then again, if PVP is your bag, you'll love this game.

Also fairly much any F2P kMMO wouldapply,  not from having unlimited levels so much as being massive grindfests..  granted, you might actually ENJOY the grind.

You might also consider MUDs  (That's what most of us over 30 remember as online gaming when WE were kids),,  Basically think like today's  online games, but text onlie.

Anyone that can hit 120 in PWI should get gamer of the year award.....Not only is it hard to get that high but the boredom factor is insane.......

Asherons Call, the cap is at lvl 250 and i think people resorted to botting and xp chains to get close enough to the cap.  Even though i think there isn't too much difference in power between a lvl 150 and 200+.

I still play EVE off and on, It is pretty cool, but I also like dungeons and skeletons beautiful landscapes.  I don't think I've tried perfect world yet, is it any good?

The cap for AC is actually at 275 now I believe, and yeah, there seem to be few (if any) that have ever reached that level through legit means. Macroing (albeit some of it is assisted) is apparently accepted by a large portion of the community; so much, in fact, that many don't report others for doing it because they, themselves, do it also. It seems to be a mutual thing there. It was one of the things that killed the game for me, actually.

As for other pretty intense grinders, just refer to my sig :P. L2 has gotten a lot easier when it comes to getting to the 70 bracket, but getting to the cap (which is currently 85) through legit means, is pretty much unthinkable/impossible, at least in any reasonable amount of time (unless you play 10+ hours a day I suppose). And that's not even counting the time it takes to get the high grade gear - that's a whole other insane grind in itself.

Water margin online, its similar to RO but worse, not many people play it, its like a ghost town allt he way through. Max lvl is 300 i dont think anyone has even got close. This is probably why no-one plays.

I would have to say...Auto Assault since it was canceled.  Very little chance of reaching max level with a canceled game.

I miss that game...still have the box with my other old MMOs...

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

You need at least 2-3 years to max skills and by this time they will add more...

    Nice game check it out...

A few of my friends were raiding a town in that game and got destroyed by the guards.

I don't think they play anymore.
