I to am hoping for capital ships as well.

I have high hopes for this game to replace Eve for my space cravings.

I don't mind and in fact enjoy pvp but i'll be curious to see how harsh death penalties are in this game.

Eve's death penalty is so high that I get upset and angry beyond what a person should get in reation to a game.

I'm hoping that the death penalty will be high enough to discourage stupidy but not so high as to cause gut wrenching fear and anger.

So far it has (in F&F testing)  repair fee as death penalty. Repairing better ships will be more expensive.

Yeah I'd be interested in player controled capital ships and a good death penalty. It would be neat as well if one person in the fleet had a carrier and other players could launch from him or a cruiser with one player fighter slot.

If all we are going to have access to is small fighter class ships, this is not a long term play game. That is a shame I was really looking forward to this one.

I don't think any game could ever have a death penalty that high.......

I think right now there is no plans for capitol ship ownership, but Reakktor didn't rule it out.  There will be a few classes of ships but nothing that big. It is also supposed to be a fast based combat game and capitol ships are not that at all. Combat is slow and they move slow. But I could see them adding them later... Plus capitol ship management is totally different gameplay mechanics. Depending on the depth of the module system BP will have it will be interesting ship building.

I really hope there are at least cruiser and even battlecruiser class ships in this game.

However, it won't be all that bad if all we can fly are fighters.  Think about it in terms of cars:

When you get your first car, it is usually a junker that has trouble climbing steep hills.

You get more practice and money and eventually you can afford to drive a mediocre, ~$15k range car.  Now you can make it up all hills with out trouble.  You still can't compete in any drag races, though.

You save yet again up and you can afford an expensive car, $50-100k range.  You leave most of the competition in the dust, but you still get blown away by the super cars.

Finally, by some miracle, you save up enough money to drive a car that is way more expensive and fast than it should be.

My point being, just because all you are flying are fighters, doesn't mean there isn't a whole world of advancement to be had.  But instead of cars, you also can advance in weaponry - you can always fit bigger guns.

it does seem like this game is too pvp oriented seeing as theres virtually no penalty for dieing.

you dont lose your ship? care to elaborate

also no capitals = no JGE for me.

i want to sit in something i cant afford to lose. it forces me to actually think before i do something.

You seem to be looking through Eve colored glasses. Eve claims to be a pvp game and it is but not in an action packed sort of way because the death penalty is restrictive to returning to battle and people tend to hate wasting cash while losing ships constantly, so they tend to use that excuse when asked to fight a losing battle or simply shy away from pvp. And god forbid you just do boring missions to get enough cash to participate in alliance wars! If you don't fight in their wars you get kicked which is understandable but I don't have all day to farm for cash to fight a war that leaves me ship less and penny less unless I fight in an underpowered ship that can't really make a dent in anything.

JGE fixes all the problems I saw in Eve that prevented me from having fun with my $15 a month.

Ya Eve is a nice game if you don't care about flying your ship as you do in a simulator and live to build empires. Empires are boring. I need action and a lot of it. I need a space flight simulator with big-battles where my twitch skill matters and my quick thinking is needed, not a boring econ simulator that limits action.

JGE's focus is on twitch skill based action in big battles. This is not a design flaw, this is what all action seekers want in their mmo's.

Yes JGE has your precious pve but everyone knows you need pvp to make a mmo a lasting engaging experience. There is no end game or end of content in pvp cause fighting another player is an interesting endeavor that never gets old. Strategies in fights change and players react so quickly it starts to resemble a skillful dance. It's like poetry that changes as you read it.

JGE's twitch-skill-based combat will be nothing like a silly point and click blob vs blob fight that you get in other mmo's and game mechanics don't get in your way, so you can enjoy it and not dread it for fear of unbearable loss. We get enough loss in real life economies and wars. We need fun in our mmo's for a change.

As for multi player ships, ND mentioned that they are working on how to implement it in game and said it was one of the features that they hope to include because of over whelming community desires. They said they are aware that a rear turret on a hauler would be nice. They always say however that quality is the first focus so implementing a feature in way that works well in JGE is more important than implementing a feature that does not work well in JGE. Apparently there are some issues with latency and multi player ships that needs to be worked out, similar to the problem that SWG has with their ships.

ND also said that player twitch skill is the focus of the combat in the game, so AI controlled turrets is something not being considered for implementation at this time. This means if you want to control a capital size ship by yourself you will probably only be able to fire the front main stationary guns. ND has said that there is no guarantee that muti-player ships will be in game at launch and if they are it may only be 2 player hauler class but no bigger than cruiser class. They are totally open to the idea of multi player ships and if any company can implement them right it is ND.

I have a lot of respect for this company and their competency as you can tell. They have experience with this game type sure but their choice of what kind of method they use for developing JGE is quiet effective logically if you know that to make a game fun you need to change things to make them fun often. This is harder to do and more costly with traditional game developing methods where you assign teams to work on all features at the same time. If a planned feature is not fun and it was a core feature then potentially all features need to be changed and a lot of the money spent already on details of features or even whole features is wasted as core features are revamped to be fun. ND has settled on the Vertical Slice Method as the best way to make a game fun. It has allowed them to provide a game with a finished feel even early on and by working on core features and making them fun first before moving on to core feature-dependent features they have cut costs while still preserving the fun in the game.

Their dev process choice does inspire confidence but these guys are gamers too. They are not the stuffy corp drones that would not know a fun mmo if it bit them in the ass; people SOE likes obviously. These guys play JGE sure but they are making JGE be what they as gamers have always wanted in an mmo and they play it with that ideal in mind and make sure it lives up.

I like ND and I have no doubt that JGE is gonna be the mmo I love. Player cap ships will just be a bonous.
