Some tidbits from an interview with producer Nobuaki Komoto and director Hiromichi Tanaka.
- Eorzea is simply a region within the world of Final Fantasy XIV, The world itself will be named ??????(ha-i-de-ri-n), but we have yet to receive an official English spelling of the word.
- Final Fantasy XIV will be a little more “high-tech” in line with the sci fi style of Final Fantasy XIII. However, they still wish to have the foundation of the game’s setting based in traditional fantasy.
- ...they are looking at ways to allow names to transfer (from FFXI) as well as other methods to keep adventurers together. The main objective here is to make transferring to Final Fantasy XIV as comfortable as possible without providing the advantage of transferring completed characters.
- There are no levels ~ Although Final Fantasy XIV will eschew the traditional levelling system in favour of something new, there will be parts of the Job System that make it over. Most importantly, we wish to retain the concept of being able to switch roles and work on one job one time and another job the next time.
- Final Fantasy XIV is designed to be much lighter on one’s schedule (compared to FFXI) and contain a wider variety of content so players can find the best way to enjoy the game for themselves. Final Fantasy XIV definitely will not be as rough on the player, and it is speculated that this will cause an eventual shift of users to the game.

Not sure if anyone has posted about specs, and I know it s really too early to tell, but does anyone know what specs are somewhat needed.
Hey I wasn't aware Eorzea wasn't the entire world? Nice tidbits thanks! ^^

Thank you very much for this
So it's a carebear game - like we really need another one of those. Jeez, this genre is dying fast.
They obviously do not mean that they are porting old characters right? Just the names of your previous characters?
This is correct

March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
There is no way to speculate on the actual difficulty of aspects of the game.
Having soloable content doesn't make grouping any less important if done well. Exp chains, Group bonuses, and things like this can make grouping much more valuable and enjoyable.
Also keep in mind that they said no EXP, what could this mean?
Skill based?
Perhaps you gain levels after completing a certian number of missions? like the Ranks from XI?
I've heard some people talk about a translation that spoke of weapons playing a key role in character development, everything I'm hearing says to me something new and diffferent.
