Cinematic inclusion

I wonder to what extent will our characters be included in the in-game cutscenes. I'd of course love if more things happened during missions and battles (scripted battles).

This thought came up from the trailer footage once again. This is supposed to be in-game footage, but it felt like a cutscene almost... and especially when the huge sea-dragon came up and loomed over the boat. I want to see my character in cooler scenes, that involve more than just us walking toward someone or nodding our head.

One thing that I think would be awesome is situational cutscenes. In a party situation, say if the boat portion of that video had been a cutscene. Each player in the group has their position based on party setup I guess (Leader, spot 2, 3, 4, etc). Lets say the leader for the ship thing was the Galka with the axe. Spot 2 could be Mithra Mage, 3 and 4 under the shield, 5 and 6 spot the leviathin lookin' thing.

How doers this work when the leader is a mage? Exchange axe swinging for quick little fireballs or something. If the mithra mage happens to be some kind of melee class, have the players in those spots just build a defensive formation, etc. This is probably wishful thinking and may be technologically/production unrealistic. I just want more times where player badassery is portrayed in cutscenes!

They said it was using the in game engine.  So they could have made a cutscene using the graphics from the game and not just an outside cinematic.  Like the rest of it.

they actually did show some of the game engine. the part where the "jellyfish" were coming and the guy was swining his weapon is the in game engine. however the part where you could see the chocobo's butt was not.

I believe FFXIV will be able to have cutscenes with playable characters in actual equipment, including ones that are more than FFXI quest scenes. I highly doubt that Square Enix will not be able to do it.

Nonetheless, having entire parties in cutscenes would be really cool.

Seems like an easy enough process.

Didn't they have your character in things that were sort of like cut scenes in 11 during the missions?  Like when you were accepting the new missions I mean.  Or whatever they were called.

They did yeah, but thats lame! It was nothing special. All we did was walk here, nod at this guy, stand in surprise... whatever. There was hardly ever any action!

I want to see a summoner invoking  a summon they can't yet control, to have it send an attack down upon the whole party. Everyone evades, and the encounter starts right there. If there's a boss we have to fight, I want a better introduction for it that said boss just... appearing, and we beat it to death. Give us a miniature scene with us all attacking this one person/creature in turn with little to no success, just to fully emphasize the strength of the challenge!
