I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with. I purchased the game about 5 days ago so I could play with my son who lives in a different city. I created one character and was in one realm. I only made it to level seven after entering the world only 4 times. While at work, I guess I was hacked and someone used my account to advertise. They were on a server and used a character that I did not even have in my account. Needless to say I was banned. I did write a letter about 3 days ago stating my case with no response. I have spent over $100 on the game and the only person I have ever chated with is my son who was teaching me how to play as we were going through the game together. Here are my questions.
How in the world did some one get into my account?
How long does it take Blizzard to make their decision on giving me my account back?
If you were me, and wanted to continue playing without spending another $100 to start over agian, how would you go about getting my account back.
I know I am a newbie but if anyone can help I would appriciate it.

Just send Blizzard an email stating that you got hacked, that you were not playing your account at the time of the banning, and youll probbally get it back. That's how it worked for me, atleast, and I got banned for my name :P

The answes to your questions can be found at the Offical WoW site:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml
and the forum area for a problem like yours:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=11112
which is the customre service forum.
And if you think that you were hacked, you need to check your virus scanner and spyware app. ( you *do* have thoses, right? ) closely to see what site you visited to pick up your virus/trojan/whatever......
Thanks for your help. How long did it take them to get back to you after you sent them an email?
Yeah. I haven't had experience with this personally, so I couldn't say how long it'd take for them to respond, but it sounds like a very bad case of luck to me. Remember:
WoW has millions of subs. That's alot of pressure on Blizz's Customer Service department. If they don't respond quickly, it's not like they are trying to be mean or anything.
Another thing is with that many people, there are bound to be many hackers, gold spammers, etc. Like I mentioned above, it just sounds like misfortune. Hope everything works out.
send an email to wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com
how long does it take? it takes how long it takes. thats going to vary based on the support load at any given time.
keep in mind blizzard logs EVERYTHING. chat, ip's, your startmenu programs (google wow's warden program), everything.
if you're innocent of any wrong doing, just email tell your side of the story and the investigator will look at the facts and make a decision based on policy.
simple as that.
good luck

This has all been great help I guess I will just have to be patient. Like I told them in my email, I only have one IP and I was at work when it happened and I don't have access at work LOL. Yes, very bad luck. Patience. Thanks to everyone for the help.
A friend of mine got hacked pre Wrath. His 3 level 70s where stripped and hi gear sold... it took about a week to get everything back. As you are just banned and have nothing to retrieve, it should be quicker.
Hello Deinesty3 for smaller issues I usually get answers in about 2-3 days if not less.
If you don't have any news after a week send me a Personal Message I'll provide you with a direct email that could help you.
Honestly I don't think you'll need it as I guess your request was polite and well written.
Best luck.
D.
I will echo what has been said. I was hacked, they stripped the account and used it to sell gold. I had kind of stopped playing and in all honesty wasn't all that bothered but out of boredom wrote a cynical email not expecting much tbh due to the tone and manner of the email. Just over a week later they told me they had reset my password etc, etc. As I wasn't going to play again was just surprised but left it there, about 3 weeks later (again out of boredom) went in and a very nice GM contacted me and took about another day to give all my gear back.
Good luck.

Is this Blizzard support?
"How in the world did some one get into my account?"
If you have not given your details to someone then there is a good chance you could have some sort of key logger on your PC,I would run a full sweep to check this as when you get your account back the same thing could happen all over again.
I had a couple of mate's this happened to when I played WoW and it seem's it took them around 3 days to check the account and give it back to them.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Don't log into the game again until you find out how your account was hacked. Otherwise you will just get hacked again.
Because he 1 or more times told a friend about the login and pass or dont have protection on his computer or that he logged in somewhere else that didnt have those protections. Either way hes got himself to blame and I hope he learn from his misstake.
I can speak for myself only ofcourse, but I never did have a keylogger, trojan, or any such thing. However I did discover how I was hacked and it was my fault, all I will say is under no circumstances use any mods with auto downloaders. Yes I know it was obvious but it was a well known mod and I figured it would be ok. Many mods by them selves are fine as they don't kick in until after you logged in but don't use auto updaters, personally I'd stay away from mods altogether from my experience.

Mods cannot steal your account information. Mods are not executable files and warning people away from mods is advice that is easily misunderstood. Mods by themselves do nothing to your computer and are fully controlled by the warcraft engine. As you said they don't even load up until after you have logged into the game so they are not even active when you enter your account credentials.
The real problem is people who do not understand what they are doing and they end up clicking executables thinking they installing a mod or using auto-downloaders to update their mods for them. There is nothing to be feared from mods, unless the person installing them doesn't really know what they are doing.
As long as the mod extracts into the world of warcraftInterfaceAddOns folder you are fine. There is nbever an installer to do the installion for you or special instructions on how to install the mod (like to any directory other than the addons folder). Doing anything like that opens yourself up to vulnerabilities.
I didn't want people to misread your advice and further spread the rumor that an account can get hacked from a mod.
You could also consider phoning them. Every time I ever did I got immediate statisfaction, even when my son's account was hacked.

Phoning them does get very good results, hell most Phone supports are good for getting things done fast and easily.

I suggest you use 3 different type of scan to check your computer.
First try a new virus-scanner (if you have none, try AVG Free....since it's Free)
then try Ad-Aware which is a good tool to clean up your computer
then download HiJackThis do a scan and save a log then use this website www.hijackthis.de/en HiJackThis log file is hard to understand so this website basically translate the log into something even a person with very few computer knowledge can understand.
If nothing was detected, you could always try another virus-scanner (Bit Defender free trial for exemple). You can also try to download a F2P games that uses a anti-hack shield (MapleStory, Mabinogi, S4 League, etc) and just run the game even if you don't have the intention to play it. The anti-hack shield may detect something (it happened to me, the hack shield detected a trojan my virus scanner did not detect).
Now if nothing was detected than it may means that your password is not strong enough (and even if the virus scan has detected and deleted the malware, I suggest you change password). There's a nice guide for password creation on microsoft website: www.microsoft.com/protect/yourself/password/create.mspx
If after all this you still get hack then your only possible solution may be to completly reboot your computer (everything will disappear and you will have to redownload Windows or whatever Operation System you use) Hopefully this won't happen.
Thanks for the offer I will be patient for about a week and a half then I may take you up on your offer. Thanks Again.
Will all the advice I took my computer to an IT company to go thorugh my entire computer. They did not find anything but it sure runs a lot faster now. Also, my password was very week I will take the advice and go to the microsoft site and make myself a better password. I did call tech support and they could not help me but hopefully they passed the word on. I did find a number for billing support but could not find a phone number for customer support that would handle something like this. When I do finally get my account back I should be set to go.

That makes me feel a bit better. My one week will be up on Tuesday. Thank you for your information it does ease my mind.
Just curious to how did it end up costing you 100 dollars to play the game? Could you clarify please?
Well if he is telling the truth, and not leaving anything out you could easly spend 100$ for two people to start playing.
WoW 20 Dollars x2
2 Months of games time 30 Dollars x2
Thats 100 dollars or
2 WoW's 20 Dollars x2
2 Burning Crusades 30 Dollars x2
It could easly stack up
