How old are you? And what clueless country are you from?  They released because they needed cash flow genius.

How old are you ?  They released because they announced they will release a year prior release  ?

Everyone would like to see cash for his work, but no need to be smart to notice DF wasnt a rushed release lol

The developers are obviously satisfied with the sales and current numbers having invested not much money into it  taking into consideration that they having done not marketing on it and according to that quote

"We don’t want to create any problems by allowing too many new users in. This is why we have no boxes in the market, why we haven’t been promoting the game, why our new site isn’t up yet, why we don’t offer a free trial, why we don’t offer more payment options etc."

They feel like they have enough customers and get enough money in return for what they invested.

welp, tasos employee, the retention sieve has turned into just a huge hole now...

i'm not even going to bother pointing out the inaccuracies in the quoted.  the game and it's lack of subs, speaks louder than any viral postings ever shall...

Darkfall isnt dead, but i believe its on life support. They cant maintain the game for too long without additional subs in there.

I read your posts, Darth, and the phrase "The band played on..." just keeps going through my head.

(If you don't get the connection, see: Titanic)

The writing's on the wall. You have active players providing on-going accounts of how the game is going. I'm seeing more and more posts from other players wondering where everyone has gone. People are talking of once busy and populated cities now sitting empty. People talk of a lack of queue times, indicating that the # logging in isn't reaching their "cap". The shop stays open constantly now, instead of in small windows as before because they were close to their cap and so open spots were limited.

DF is a great idea, over-hyped by a loud-mouth with a penchant for lying and hyperbole (ie. Tasos), and executed (in both senses of the word) by a less-than-capable team.

Continue to enjoy the game... fine. Squeeze every second of enjoyment you can out of it, and savor every moment. No one will fault you for that. FFS, though, stop trying to spin or deny that the game is not in good shape. It's getting pathetic now.

The game is not dead yet.

The game is not healthy though either. players will argue that it is fine and that is because it's a nice population at the moment...not too many but enough to have battles with. But i think it's not the server pop that AV wanted. and although a fan, i have to admit the population has declined in the last month. Which is a shame as the last month has seen the biggest steps by AV.......is it too late i dont know and can't say.

Hanging on at the moment but not dead.

Good comment and you raised a point, is it too late to save this sinking ship.  Before it is really too late.

Where is the mark of "too late"?

    (1) Nobody is buying.  Now an ad, or some big news might bring some fresh attention.

    (2) Nobody care.  That is serious.

Take the example of the communist party in Russia.  When USSR (ex-bigger-Russia) broke up, the ruling big guys, some of them, formed a party, and of course, you know the name of the party.  They are the ex-big-guys, they still own the radio and TV, and a lot of money.  They have the major press.

Then comes the election.  The communist party is known for mass mobilisation, for endless trumpeting and propaganda.  They tried to talk to the big stars, sports stars, offer big money to them and try to run shows.  Free tickets, free meals, everything.  You know what?  No one showed up.  People walked past their booths as if they were invisible or transparent.  I was there in Moscow, Leningrad (now St Petersburg).  It was shocking.  People totally and royally ignore them, after so many years of being lied to, they have enough.  The new radio stations were bombed with people phoning in, talking.  All new shops, eating places were airing the new radios.  Private radios.  No one dare tune to the official radios, the shop will be bombed instantly if they dare suggest that.

That, I say is the point of no return.  Even after the total fiasco of Yeltsin, people still won't look back to the communist party.  Maybe the next generation.

Is DF at that point already?  I do not know, but I do not envy their position.  They do not have the financial resources, the political skill and resolve of the Russian communist party,  They only have Tasos to speak for them (LOL).  Even if they are not already at that point of no return, it would take a real miracle for them to turn back the tide.  Sad state of situtation for their creditors.

A NA launch might generate some new excitement, but I'm not sure Aventurine has the financing to pull it off and advertise it properly.

The key is not another launch, the key is how to do the launch.  If they repeat the exact same steps in the new NA launch, with every gamers already alert to the problems of the EU server, what chances do they have?

The point is, if they can fix it, the EU server can provide the venue already.  IF they are still clueless, 3000 new launches will just repeat itself.

The answer would be a trial so players could simply make up thier own mind. Another server would help new players but it's getting them interested in the first place. maybe a trial that has a time limit so players could only progress so far and not have to deal with overpowered players.

Come to think of it kyleran, or anyone.  Draw up a proposal on how to save it, if you are hired to replace Tasos.

That would be a great exercise in business planning.  I might use this scenario for a term paper next year.  But of course, I need to consult the dean, or even the legal advisors from law school.  This might not be legal, or ethically acceptable.

It is legal to talk here though.  Any ideas welcome.

Actually CCP did it before, it has been done.

This board right now is a carbon copy of the Dark and Light board circa the first half of 2006 (everyone saying how terrible the game was, with a handful of loyal fanatics and shills trying to defend it), and we all know what happened to that game.

Thats a bad example, Dark and Light was further from being finished than Darkfall is plus it had leagl issues which is why it closed. DF is the same quality like every other MMo that has been released since 1999, i.e not entirely finished, blame the industry. And Df doesnt have any legal issues and the servers are nice and stable.

anyway this is all pointless, people cry doom and gloom about every MMO that is not for them and guess what? these games carry on for many years.....

Just googled Drak and Light, http://www.darkandlight.com   is it still going? heh

Are you serious? Silly broad, Darkfall is no where near the same quality as every other game released since 1999. DF does not have any KNOWN legal issues at the present, however they will when they go towards bankrupcy.(if not already.) the SERVER may be more stable at this point due to the mass exodus of the 2 types of players:

    1. The guy convinced he could win a game of 3 card monty, in just 1 more bet.

    2. The people that got banned.

The people remaining are those who know they can beat the 3 card monty guy in the next bet because "they see the pattern now" Just 1 more bet!

DF is not bad simply b/c it is unfinished.  Games with partial feature implementation can be immensely fun.  Games with a lot of horribly designed features can be feature complete and is still horrible.

DF is unfortunately both.  Fixing the few macroing and game exploits to auto level skills alone won't cut it.  The lacking in content, the need for a rollback, the client side hacking.  The meaningless city and siege.  The crafting joke.  The skill system.  These issues require an overhaul in design, tearing apart some of the finished features and rework from ground up.  It is easy to pull down an empty building and build a new one, it is hard to rebuild a new building on a site with thousands of inhabitants.

DF is live, DF have some people actively playing 24/7.  How can they effectively and speedily overhaul so many broken features or badly designed features.  That is the problem AV need to work out, and fast.

The only way a NA launch will work is if the as-of-yet-unnamed NA publisher puts funds and marketing into the launch.  Otherwise, it's just more of the same, which isn't what Darkfall needs and many players don't want.

I do love it that the staunch fanboys have went and hid under a rock, They have been on a slow decline.

Oh I look back about a year ago and laugh this forum was full of em. Remember that sig where it showed game evolution and darkfall was "man" and all other games were monkeys. I think that sig should be flipped because Darkfall is de-evolution

Thank you.  Thank you so much for this.  I almost shat myself laughing.

But seriously...  It's on life support.  I'm kinda sad in a way because the first trailers I saw for this game looked amazing.  But then I saw the leaked beta video, and man did it look nothing like those trailers.  Thats when I decided that I wasn't even going to waste my money.  If Tasos delivered on what was shown there, then we would have had a real gem.  Instead we have a turd wrapped in aluminum foil.

I really do feel bad for everyone who was let down by this.  All I can say is I'm glad I stayed out of it...

I second the sentiment. But then, this is why I don't follow games until they are released. I would rather judge the merits of a game based on its actual content and not the promise of its potential.

    No, it's dead.

But, it still took a few years to die.

Lots of people still knew it was on it's last legs, though, even if avid fans still screamed, "LIES!"

I see a parallel quite easily.
