So maybe I'm just not looking in the right place, but I haven't been able to find an answer to this question.
If not, I gotta say that's kinda of a bummer. I know it took them a while to add that to CoH, and I kinda didn't like how they all existed seperately from the heroes for the most part. From what I've heard it sounded like DCUO is taking the right approach with this, but I was wondering how this game would be handling it.

Nope, you can't be a villain and they don't plan to add them.
Ever? That's kinda lame. This game looks pretty cool, but that's a major drawback for me. I'm sorry, but sometimes it's just fun to play as the evil scientist bent on world domination.

Well just like LackeyZero said you cant be the evil villian but when you create your hero you also create the nemesis of your character. So atleast you dont need to fight some random generatet hobo villian as your evil nemesis
Even though I liked CoV ultimately it did not tie in to well with CoH and ended up eroding CoH population and taking away content.
What I didn't like is how the two sides were seperated from each other. I think that villains and heroes should be together in the same city. It sounds like DCUO doing something more along those lines, and from what I've heard so far, I think I'm more interested in that game. I guess we'll see, though.

I agree, not being able to play as a villian is kind of lame. Personally my desire to play this game just tanked.
If you're refusing to play this game just because you cannot be a villain, then frankly I'm glad that I won't have to deal with you in the game. If something as trivial as that is going to decide for you whether or not you have fun, I just don't want to be around you.
Personally I like the way they are handling the villains, letting you create your own arch enemy.
I would guess that in the future there will be an expansion that will allow players to play villains, and if thats the direction they want to go, I'm fine with that. But you won't find me whining and crying about it either way.
I agree.
Originally COV was supposed to come much quicker. It was dissappointing that it came so long after. And it wasn't that well integrated or balanced.
For Champions Online not to have real pvp and heroes vs. villains from launch is utter fail !

I would think they would had this on the outset... even if it was just for opt-in PvP
I don't see this a trivial thing either, this is a major selling point too alot of people.
That said I never had any intention to play this game anyway, but this would have irked, if I was.
I can see how PvPers would be turned off by the lack of villain play in this game, but I think it speaks to the intended target audience of the game. I think this game is made for casual PvE players.
Personally, I am thankful for the fact that there is no genuine PvP in the game. I prefer group PvE content and exploration, so the game seems just right for me. The focus of the game is on being a hero, and that's what I plan to be

I love PvP, I really do, but not every game has to have PvP. Most games do it poorly, or try to cludge it in someway. Or god forbid have different server types. It better if games will stick to the way the game is designed instead of trying to please everyone and screw everything up.
Not letting players be villains was a huge mistake in CoH and it's a huge mistake on CO. The premise behind this game is just asking for a hero vs villain set up. For some reason Cryptic fails to see this for the second time.
Theres got to be a reason for them not putting in the villiany option at launch.
Cryptic is making the exact same mistakes they made CoH. They have learned nothing.
Simple...they don't ever plan to add one.
Simple...they don't ever plan to add one.
They will add it later, just like City of Villains. Mark my words.
I think it will definitely be interesting to see how this game and DCUO fair against each other since they seem to be taking very different approaches to this genre. So far from what I've heard about each DCUO sounds more appealing to me, but to each their own.

Maybe, but they will have to survive that long. This is the reason why more people don't play LOTRO, you should be able to play both sides.
If they don't add it fast and DCU doesn't totally suck the game will bomb.
i totally agree with you .in war they had a good side and a bad side but most people became and chose light side over dark.the whole game was destroyed. secondly this game is called champions online .villans cant be champions:P
You will only be able to play villains in DCU.
Personally I dont miss it so much tbh. I can only play what I can find within myself, and I just see zero motivation to kill and rob people virtually or in RL. *shrug*

I really, really hope they don't add villains into this game, ever. I don't think PvP needs to be in every MMO out there. I don't think I've ever seen PvP done well, and it often ruins the game. I hope Cryptic realizes this. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all.

they wont .according to my reports they had conducted a survey through a well know company asking people in cov or coh ,about whether they enjoyed playing villan in cov?? 99 percent said no . thats when they scrapped the idea of villan in champions online. so rest assured there are and will be no villans in this game for people to play.
I think the coolest way to handle the whole hero/villain thing would be if instead of choosing a side, your standing as a hero or villain was determined by your actions and how you're viewed by the public at large. Maybe something kinda similar to the alignment system used in the KOTOR games. After all, it's easy to call yourself a hero, but actions speak louder than words and there are many shades of grey between good and evil.
Anyway, I realize this is far off from how they're handling it in this game, I'm just saying that's the kind of hero game I would want to play.

To all, it isn't said that you can't play villains in CO. Actually Mr.Roper (you know the one) said that you may be able to play as your villains that you create at some point. I don't think it will be a PvP thing as you won't be able to customize the villain powerset the same way you do your hero... but there may be times when in PvE and certain missions you take control of your villain to complete an objective.
Not sure when or where that comes into play yet.. but its been spoken about before.
