Hello everyone
Just wanted to try and describe how I feel with the annoucement of Final Fantasy XIV, I can't decribe how excited I am, finaly after so many years of praying, wishing and dreaming of Square Enix to release a new Final Fantasy MMO it has all come true. It was the 2nd happiest day of may life when I watched the trialer (1st will be playing the game for the first time..lol) + the music!! They actually getting GOD to do it. YAY (God = Nobuo Uematsu)
I'm looking forward to making new friends, healing my allies and exploring a new vast world, there is so much I want to say but cant put it into words!.
Let me know how you guys feel?

I feel the same as you. I haven't played FFXI for a few years (though i recently installed it again) but when I did play FFXI it was the best MMO experience I ever had. An unmatched community even to this day it was just a joy to log in. Even though it had an exp grind I never felt the pressure to level up. I was having fun just killing enemies with friends and wandering around.
Ever since I left FFXI to try and find something new, I never found the magic that FFXI had. Hearing this news brought me some peace. Finally I can stop wandering around from MMO to MMO and can return to my home where I belong in FFXIV!
When I heard about this I will say I got a little teary with exciment. Yes maybe I need to get a life but even still.. it was exciting for me. I can't wait to play. I already am sold on the game. And I too look forward to healing my buddies and reviving fallen allies
But where are the Tarutaru? >.>
I really didn't care if it was a FF MMO or not, I just wanted SE to release a new MMO. They are always pushing the limits with graphics and gameplay. But I can say I got really excited that it was a FF MMO, I had to start jumping around because I just got this sudden burst of energy.
FFXI was my 2nd MMO but it has been the only one that has kept me occupied the longest. WoW being the 2nd closest but I never really enjoyed that game I just played it because friends and family did.
Yeah Im thinking there will be a Taru looking race, but im not sure what im going to be. It all depends what classes are at start and what can be unlocked if they still do that in FFXIV. I might go Taru again and do BLM but if DRG is playable at launch then I might go that route.
This is awesome. ALL other game developers take note. THIS is how you want your fanbase to react to news about your games.
I agree with all of these, and whether I can put my finger on whatever the "magic" is of FF games, I'll never know, but it is there and there is something to it. This "magic" is what players are looking for. I look forward to seeing you all in FFXIV!
I think when Final Fantasy XIV is released i might take a career break for a few months lol. I've decided that i'm not going to attemped to play the beta as I want the excitement to last.
And I expect your wait will be quite a bit longer, so don't get too worked up there Sparky.
Its a game, nothing to get that worked up about, just something to look forward to.
When it comes out, I'll give it a try, since I missed the first one.

Nope we'll be majorly excited for the next 3 years if we have to, though I don't think it's going to take all that long.

I agree they have been working on it for years already so imagine it will be next year as announced. I wonder when they release this if they will may FFXI free to play if you sub to FFXIV.
lol I'm thinking in my mind what to name my character, defo gonna go White Mage (Thats assuming they have this class)
Would be nice to be able to pay maybe $20 and have access to both games cause I think the only way I could give up playing FFXI is when the servers are completely gone. But if they have no option like this I will be in a pickle.
meh....its okay.
well they claim to have been working on it for 5 years so hopefully next year it will come out.

Yes most people expect late 2010, their beta is supposed to be pretty substantional too.

Impossible to understand how it feels to have been involved in FFXI and hearing the news about FFXIV recently. FFXI is the only game that has changed my life and that I can look back and honestly say that it was for the better. Every other MMO for the most part has felt like a waste of time. Really cool news. I hope they can recreate the same environment.
I'm hoping the friends that got me to get XI and then left me alone will at least get XIV and not leave me hanging again. Totally going to be playing both anyway.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.

I WAS...past tense, excited. till I saw this from the E3 Q&A:
* Q: What influence have games like World of WarCraft have on the development of FFXIV?
* A: As with WoW, we want to aim a bit for the casual user. However, we don't want to make a copy of WoW. We believe we will have things that are unique and will stand out from that game.
now I just feel sick. I will continue to watch the progress of the game but am no longer sure I will play. This really bummed me out.

I think you hit the nail on the head! I played FFXI since 2003 and 2 years ago I had quit playing. But I have spent the last several years looking for another MMO that would compete with FFXI. The experience alone that I had with FFXI was one of the best. I made a lot of friends in Japan and in the US. It seemed to bring together people from other places and share experiences in game. This is where Square Enix will undoubtably will put their competition to shame.
That is exactly how I feel. But after I read that FFXIV will be aiming for a casual gaming experience like WoW... I dunno. I hope its not true I guess.
You can deny WoW's success all you want, but if any MMO wants to succede, they should at least take a look at why WoW was so successful.
Squeenix is first and foremost a company. They are obviously investing huge amounts of time and money into this game, and to see it fail would be a tragedy. WoW did something right that all other MMOs to date have not done. If Sqeenix wants the game to even come close to the playerbase size of WoW, they better take a good hard look at why WoW is doing well.
Of course they aren't going to give up the "FF" style.
-Partying/grouping will still be a very fundamental part of the game.
-There will be all of their classic jobs; white mage, black mage, red mage, warrior, thief, etc.
-There will be a great story line, and more story lines added on each expansion.
These 3 points I GUARANTEE YOU will be in the game.
If they do succede it will be from preserving what was good about FFXI and embeleshing it with things from WoW that made WoW successful.
You can deny WoW's success all you want, but if any MMO wants to succede, they should at least take a look at why WoW was so successful. WoW is a great game with a ton of subs, but it is not FF. It is alot like windows and apple. Windows is main steam but Apple carters to a different group.

But as any company would do is cash in on what makes it great. Honda would love to be # 1 over Toyota , but they have said many times that is not their main goal. They want to make great cars and have a loyal customer group. I played FF 1 way back on the NES so they will always have my vote.
Of course they aren't going to give up the "FF" style. If they did they would lose all their loyal customers.

Waiting for FFXIV to be the game it should. so sad =(

I didn't mean FF XIV would hit 11 mil subs. If it even hits 1 mil subs and keeps that number for months or even years, it will be a great accomplishment.
I think there is a miscommunication between what I think 'copying WoW' is, and what many other people think it means. It does NOT mean copying gameplay such as grinding quests solo just to get the max level as fast as possible, or even layout of the game.
What it means to me, is copying core principles and ideoligies such as:
1) Highly polished game. Not just the bug removal that most MMO's call 'polish'. I mean smooth gameplay, very optomized engine, and great graphics that don't take a non-existent computer to run.
2) Catering to all gamers, hardcore and casuals alike. Many MMOs try to find their own 'niche' in the market - which is perfectly fine. But on games the size of WoW or FF XIV, in terms of budget and staff, they need to cater to a broader audience for the game to truely be profitable. Most of the 'niche' games are run by smaller and often independent companies. This does NOT mean making it a solo fest, but rather have activities in the game that are worthwhile or fun, but only take an hour or two max.
3) Listen to your playerbase, but don't do everything they say. As much as the WoW forums are a stinking pile, there is a certain amount of interaction between the devs and players which goes a long way. However, it only goes so far. You can't have devs with no backbone that cave in to every single demand of their players.
Remember, the more profitable FF XIV is, the better experience it'll be for everyone. SE will hav emore incentive to patch the game regularly and fix bugs as fast as possible.
Bah I've already gotten too excited over this game, lol. Best thing to do is forget about it for a year and wait for it to come out - then judge it.
That is exactly how I feel. But after I read that FFXIV will be aiming for a casual gaming experience like WoW... I dunno. I hope its not true I guess.
Relax, you already made a thread about that.
Besides, I really think you're reading into it too much. Making FFXIV more casual can mean that it'll be enjoyable for FFXI lovers and more. I highly doubt that FFXIV will go a direction far from FFXI.
FFXI was my first MMO and I played for about 4 years. Left with friends to play WOW when endgame became a drudgery and there was not much else to do. I've always missed FFXI and altho I've enjoyed WOW its never been the same.
I'm hopeful that it will remain FF at the core but include a more casual approach to 3 hour camping windows, HNM spawn timers and the like.
I never understood why the desire to stand in the same place for possibly 3 hours made you hardcore. Gamers are getting older and camping a king for a 3 hour window at 3am or a 36 hour HNM fight where you slept in shifts is just not as feasible for a lot of people as it was when FFXI came out.
I think there is a wonderful opportunity here to design a game that appeals to both.

actually I posted here first and it gave me the idea for the other thread I have calmed down a little. Still worried, but hey if it turns out to not be what I am looking for then well, no actual loss to me.
As some others have said this game brings back some memories. I haven't played it for a few years but knowing that another one will be coming out next year literly brings tears to my eyes. I hope they get it right this time. I loved FF XI but I also hated so many things about it. I doubt I will get that same feeling as I got in the first one. This kinda reminds me of my first experience in Phantasy Star online. I played the game and had the best times of my life. None of the sequals could rival that first game though. Hopefully FF XIV will be different. Hopefully I have been away long enough from that when I go back to it next year I can experience the magic all over again. I still remember my best friend in the game Horn. AGHHH the memories....
