Aion vs WoW in asia

pussaykatpussaykat Member Posts: 791

I read somewhere that aion has about 3m players now. How does that compare to WoW strictly in asia?

Last I heard, WoW was at a standstill in Asia, because The9 was sueing Blizzard and had froze the servers. If this is indeed the case, Aion has 3 million more players than WoW currently. If not then forget what I just said. Maybe someone else could jump in who knows a little more.

6 to 7 milions in asia.

Is that before or after Aion was released there?

I dont think blizz has a chance in the courts in China..But inagain;it is who can grease the hands of the officals..The court system in China is so bad it makes Russia courts look like a Noble peace prize..

Some people rob you at gun point..Others will rob you at "Ball Point Pen"

From what i've seen the game is polished. It has an advanced graphic and animation quality and the class spread is interesting. I checked some emotes on youtube and some gameplay related to classes.

I'd advise you to look up a game and come up with some solid criticism rather than a 5 word line.

I could release an MMO about leveling turds in a toilet and would be a success in Asia.

firstly wow is not only operated in china .its operated in taiwan and thailand also .90 percent of chinese have transferred themselves to taiwan realms and are playing there . wow taiwan alone has 6-7 million people from all over asia .and there is even a way to play on wow taiwan in englsih by following few steps:PPPPPPPPP

Won't that mean that you're abandoning your established characters and start over?

I wonder how many people would do that (say, WoW US servers close so people move to the EU ones).

well it took them only 4 days to lvl up their characters.considering their experience .they were the first guild to do uldar in heroic lvl .

Hehe, maybe it's just me that I am sentimentally attached to my characters, within the same game. That's also the reason they pass into oblivion when I quit a game. I would never sell a character that I had fun with :)

they are not like selling their character .there was a dispute between the9 and wow in china .and wrath of the lich king uptil date is not released .so i think when wrath of the lich king release their .they will go back. or maynot because chinese government is demanding to remove death knight from it because its is socially attached to chinese culture.

The death knight is socially attached to the Chinese culture? In what way?

Apparently the whole undead/demonic theme is taboo/illegal.

WotLK has yet to be released in china because of these issues.

Haha, well im sure if that was the case most Chinese wouldnt play it due to it being taboo. But in the Story of warcraft the undead are vital part in it so there just ganna have to deal with it... But Going back on the topic of WoW Vs Aion in asia. From a comment stated above about how it looks anime. Heres the thing alot of people dont realize or just dont know about. In MMO's you need to keep it Low Poly meaning some what blocky its runs better on systems and doesnt cause much lag on servers you cannont run a game and expect it to have 5k players on a server with Oblivion Or crysis Graphics just doesnt work that way not to metion more funding needed. So most mmo rely not only on modeling But mainly in the detail work of Textures the better drawn textures the more real it looks and depending on the game engine the better the textures look...

Okay so WoW runs good since every things is a low poly you wont see a weel with more then 7 sides to it but the textures are set up to make it look full. My point is WoW is amazing but its also starting to become out dated so now we need the next generation MMO. Aion is the next gen mmo and even though its done by NCsoft its still amazing the low poly of it so it will run on almost everyones computer and still be able to look better then WoW just means there using a new system and what seems like a better engine...

When building a car and start to put the nuts and bolts and metal together then you get to the wireing and car mechanics but in order for it to run you need an engine its the same with the game and the better the engine is the better the car runs same applies. Now wraping this up since im writing more then intended. Im a WoW fan also i love the story line and characters However, And most players will agree its starting to become repetitve its the same thing over and over again getting gear and moving to the dungoen dealing with little kids who cant even hit 2.k on a hunter or a mage decked out in 80 blues... after awile it becomes boring and the game it self is getting worse not better. Now dont get me wrong i love northrend and i was expecting it to due better then it did and i love the storylines there putting in there. but it just doesnt due much playing for 4 years now im looking for that next great game and in all hopes this could be it. But theres always the fact it can end up like tabula rasa ( I know i spelt that wrong) but in anycase you get my point. So weiher this game does good or no good were just going to have to see with these beta tryouts and or Nov. when the game is released...

Ps... This is being said for all three countries and not just asia as the topic is for =( but im still ganna post so i dont let all this writing go to waste...

Pss. This is also all my own oppion based on facts and some truth and knowlege in video game development... Everyone has there own oppion about somthing and i respect both WoW players and no WoW players.

A large amount of Chinese WoW players did transfer to the Taiwan servers where WotLK is available. The rest are waiting for WotLK on the Chinese servers. I would imagine more than a few that are waiting are playing Aion to pass the time.

Makes me wonder if NCSoft will announce subscription numbers for Aion Asia when WotLK is officially released in China.

But why does this really matter? WoW is doing fine in Asia and Aion is doing pretty good as well. Why not just leave it at that?

from the last time i look WoW had over 14 m ppl playing. it could be less not sure

I see a few Chinese players in this thread. You guys need to make it clear to the Western readers that you cannot really count subscription like you do here in the Western MMO market.

There are 2 major reasons for that.

    1. There is no box sale. You don't have to buy game box or CDkey. You just register and download the game and start playing.

    2. You don't have to pay while not playing. Paying method in China use a time card system where your time will only get deducted if you are playing.

There are also smaller things like game card of a company usually works for all game pulished/operated by that company. By looking at how Blizzard count their subscription, you can tell in Asia they only count ACTIVE players within the last 30 days. The fact is, their player base is much larger than that. Their player base could be counted upward to 20 million players easily. HOWEVER, the player bases of different games overlap because of the 2 major reasons I listed above. Chinese players could play multiple games at the same time no problem, unlike in the US or EU, you have to invest at least 50 bucks beforehand and the monthly subscription system severely limited the amount of player playing multiple MMOs at the same time.

That is why game in Asia usually use a different metrics to measure success than subscriptions. They usually use CCU or Concurrent User. Both these numbers for AION and WoW China has not been updated for a while. The last numbers show WoW China has 1 million plus CCU and AION has about 500K CCU for both China and Korea. WoW China CCU probably dropped quite abit because of the transition though.

Well if those servers from The9 are down then technically those accounts are frozen because how can they login with no server access ? I dunno, Blizzard might have pushed too hard on this one and it may cost them big time.

thats why people are moving towards wow taiwan or aion china to be precisely .moreover if tyhose chinese people play on taiwan wow .it would be more revenue for them .considering wow taiwan is operated by  blizzard itself.
