The last MMORPG you played where you went, Wow! This is fun!

What's the last MMORPG you played, where you went "Wow! This is fun!".

Was it your first MMORPG, and not since then? Was it recently, or hasn't been for a couple of years?

I played a lot of MMORPGs, and then was pretty disappointed with everything that came out. The last time I loaded up a game, and really had fun and wasn't feeling sorry I'd bought the box was City of Heroes.

It wasn't deep enough to keep my attention for a very long time, but from the minute I logged on I thought this is fun! The world was cool, the powers were cool, it was a real sense of accomplishment to get our movement power (you start out more or less walking until you get flight, or super jump, or teleport or something like that).

Lately, it's been more disappointments. Vanguard, nope. Wanted to like it, just wasn't fun. WAR, to much quest grinding and instancing especiially when I thought I'd purchased an RVR open world game.

Anyway, what's the last MMORPG you played that was really fun?

    Atlantica Online.

Before that it's only games that are 5+ years old.  DAoC, EQ, AC, UO.

    Still waiting for another...

I would have to say SWG in the oh so early months of its release, and most definantly Ultima Onlne, when it very first came out.

    Hmmm, never really.

I never saw MMOs as something I play to have lots of fun, more like an activity you do to kill time in between other things.

They are like TV, not the most intereting thing to do, but it is accessible, there is a lot of it and it can kill a lot of time doing it.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I hate to sound like a broken record but I would have to echo the vote for SWG. For me it was just love at first sight. I couldn't pull myself away from the start.

SWG was my first MMORPG and it was fun up until the NGE but after the CU it lost some appeal due to being more generic and less unique.

Since then I have played and tried almost every MMO and some were fun for a few months but most were a let down. I love PVP and player driven worlds vs PVE and NPC controlled and generic worlds.

As far as fun factor I will list in order a few but I will leave allot out.

    1) SWG preCU (a very unique system and player ran and driven story/world/economy)

    2) Dark and Light (despite its many problems and let downs including cheating GM's the end game was fun concerning the fight and control over lands and player made keeps/castles.

    3) Vanguard FFA (was a very dangerous place and this made it exciting and kept you on your toes, shame that SOE took over and totally turned it into a poorly ran POS)

    4) WarHammer (it had allot of great ideas and concepts but was to much of a funnel and the server/engine couldn't handle funneling all the players into areas)

I prob would have loved early UO as well but at that time I spent to much time running a business.

As for now, without experiencing the full end game yet I will estimate that AION could be a new # 2 but so far SWG preCU far surpasses all of the above and any others.

Then why make threads in the Dev's Corner about ideas for mmos, if you don't think they are fun?

Ultima Online gets my vote. Held me for 6 years. SWG-pre nge would be a close second. Since then...nothing.

    WAR

Oddly enough, it was Aion.  I've been burned out on mmo's for over a year, but during the last beta weekend I found myself getting lost inside this game.

Oddly enough, for me it was FFXI.

I had taken a very long break from mmorpgs after Ultima Online. I always liked the Final Fantasy RPG's, so when this came out for the PS2 (my PC sucked at the time, so most PC games simply were not playable for me). I got a copy. A month later I bought a second PS2 and a second copy of the game and My wife and I we playing like crack heads.

2 years later, de were tired of waiting around Jeuno for hours, looking for parties.....sign

No we have a 2 year old and I am a game artist, so I have very little free time. Sadly, this means that my mmo's are now of the casual persuasion...LotR online.

I do still play EVE online, but in limited bursts. which means I don't get to do much :-(

    Tough one . . .

    Game concept goes to shadowbane

Graphics goes to age of conan

Quality of design goes to wow

All time . . . some may not count this one as MMO but Diablo II. I really really enjoyed this game.  The ease of picking it up and putting it down, the enternal quest for legendary items, and just an overall kick azz fun game imo.

DAoC....when I first reached RvR. What a thrill!!!

I really enjoyed WAR when it first released.  Specifically, Tier 1 was a lot of fun.  I honestly think that they have some of the best classes in any class based MMO.  My Warrior Priest was just awesome :)

    After Tier 1 though.... :(

My first MMO was Asherons Call 2. Had alot of fun on that one in the early days. Though any MMO I have played doesnt come close to SWG Pre CU. Yes friends, You all know its true. May it rest in peace. <3

I will wager that the most common answers you will get is UO and SWGpreCU

Every game I've played longer than a month was fun.  Of course, I only subscribe to play MMO's that I have fun in.  When the fun ends, I move.

Toss up between 2 games for me. Back in the day EQ was very fun but sooner or later everything gets boring so i quit after 2 years.

2moons: most have never played it but imo its best PvP game because thats all it was. Grind was crazy,Maps sucked, like 20 quest whole game, Unless you where a healer u will not get a party... But i loved the open PK any time any place no exp loss or items so didint matter if u died and the skills rocked. It was fun being known as "one of the best" but sadly acclaim ruined that with adding items to the item mall that was oped any one who bought them.

I think I have enjoyed something about every MMO I ahve played, but overall I'd have to go with UO... it was so wide open.
