Vanilla WoW. I just remember going through the Plaguelands on my Paladin, doing quests, fighting the Scourge, and of course bubble-hearthing anytime the Horde tried ganking me. It just felt really cool and climactic.
ummm the mmorpg would be UO (at that time i was 11 and i dident know it was UO only till recently, now that im 15)
But dosent really counts becuase i dident know what are mmorp'g.
So il go for free-realms,and maby runescape.

Not so climactic when you're a resto druid and you manage to harass a paladin enough to bubble heard. Blarg, you bubble noobs!
:P
This is a great topic, and I honestly can't remember. I'd have to say 5 capping Arathi Basin with my first guild in World of Warcraft -4 years ago? Bah.
Returned to LOTRO a few days ago, and it's having me say 'WoW! This is fun!', which I haven't really found since Runescape/Puzzle Pirates which I played around 2006 or so
I was surprised how many possibilities the Paladin class offered. And it was very fun playing the low levels again, as there is so much content that one usually had skipped. Using the new xp debuff, I am planning to explore these parts to great extend.
Knights Online, the best thing about non-instances world is this, you can take a look from far at the most powerful mob in the wolrd, and together with my friends we tell oursleves " Someday we will be powerful enough to take it down"... Nice...

Haha! Thanks for reminding me of that gem. God I loved that game, even with all the turks and hackers. It was awesome
Everything else has left me hunting for more. I really wanted to try Vanguard out but my friends talked me into WOW for now. It's Ok as long as my friends play with me. Wondering why it is the biggest game out there though. Still waiting for the next fantasy MMO I can get excited about.
"What's the last MMORPG you played that was really fun?" Virtualy all of 'em. The problem is that the feeling just doesn't last long in most of the newer games.
Any development company can make a fun game; it's making one that's still fun after 6 months that is the challenge.
Good point. Guess the question should be what MMORPG's have you played for more than 6 months, happily.
FFXI is my first love, and my number one. play'd for 1.5 years. had to quite when I realised I was playing when I got home from work to when I had to leave for work, (12+hours a day) might sleep during lunch. *sigh* but I did love it...
And WoW I guess, it was fun till level 60. so yeah, play'd 6 months and quite.
And NOTHING since...*cries* I hope AION and FFXIV are good.....
Oddly, I did not have much fun in my first MMOs: EQ and UO... A few more games like EQ, and I could even give up on MMOs altogether!
The second generation games like AO and DAOC felt somewhat better, and since then in most games I had at least a few points where I went "Yeah, this is fun!"...
But I agree, the feeling does not last long. To give an extreme example, let's take Tabula Rasa or Warhammer Online: Both felt quite fun at first but became boring so fast, I was actually surprised.
EVE is one game that does not seem to get old for me. I would hesitate calling it "fun" perhaps, but it's surely engaging. And even though I give breaks, I always find myself coming back.
2) CoH/V ( No matter what games I'm playing at the time, I always keep a couple of time cards on hand for this, I still enjoy it after 4+ years )
Lately would have to be Gods and Heros beta(This game showed promise before Perpetual pulled the plug), AoC(still play), War(the first few months), and now EvE. I hope that Star Trek Online will be the next one.

What's the last MMORPG you played, where you went "Wow! This is fun!". Was it your first MMORPG, and not since then? Was it recently, or hasn't been for a couple of years? I played a lot of MMORPGs, and then was pretty disappointed with everything that came out. The last time I loaded up a game, and really had fun and wasn't feeling sorry I'd bought the box was City of Heroes. It wasn't deep enough to keep my attention for a very long time, but from the minute I logged on I thought this is fun! The world was cool, the powers were cool, it was a real sense of accomplishment to get our movement power (you start out more or less walking until you get flight, or super jump, or teleport or something like that). Lately, it's been more disappointments. Vanguard, nope. Wanted to like it, just wasn't fun. WAR, to much quest grinding and instancing especiially when I thought I'd purchased an RVR open world game. Anyway, what's the last MMORPG you played that was really fun?
That's simple to answer: World of Warcraft 2 days ago.
A bunch of us in the guild are playing alts and we realize that we are all in the same zone so we decide to run an instance. We had a blast and had a great refresher on running level 70 instances in Northrend on characters of that level.
If you meant a realization "Wow! This is fun. Never knew a feature like that would be so much fun" then it would be about two months ago when I first participated in a Wintergrasp battle. Had a massive blast and now I participate whenever I can.
Personally I just do not see myself playing a MMORPG where I do not experience a "Wow! This is fun" moment every few play sessions.

Neverwinter Nights isn't an MMO, foo! Fun game though.
And for the record, other games that are not MMO's but (may be) are fun:
Global Agenda, The Agency, Crimcraft, Huxley - NOT MMO's and I don't give a shit if anyone says differently.
Last -MMO- that gave me that feeling was SWG before CU.

I think he may be refering to NWN AOL, which I think was considered an MMO? I wouldn't know though.
Edit: NWN by Bioware also had persistnt servers set up by players, thoug they weren't massive, I guess you could consider them an MMO.

ddo, then atlantica, and after that freerealms but that only lasted for a week. aion looks fun.
Helbreath following Horizons and then World of Warcraft and then all what have come after that.
every game gave some moments of " whoas and sighs " but no game have been able to hold me as long as world of warcraft.
still ive no intentions to go back any of these and i really look forward for future releases. atm Vanguard is giving me
enjoyable moments and i hope it lasts until lets say for example Aion comes out or Mortal Online.
cheers
FFXI was the first MMO to have me say that.. the last MMO would have to be LotRO
Short list of MMOs that impressed me in one way or another:
FFXI(community) - GW(PvE/PvP) - WoW(PvE) - WAR(Public Quests/PvP) - LotRO(PvE)
I think I'll really like Aion as well, but I didn't get to play it enough to know for sure.
I'd have to say DAoC for it's RvR and WoW for it's PVE.
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

Sadly - WOW and that was an age ago!.
Some good games (hopefully) on the horizon though
For me, it was Hellgate: London (if it classifies), and Eve online.

DAOC (Killed by bad management)
Then City of Heroes (still play it)

Most recently it was Champions Online. Before that it was The Chronicles of Spellborn. Before that DDO. Before that Tabula Rasa.
Yes, I still enjoy newer games and I've been playing MMOGs since Meridian 59.

Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
Pre-nge SWG. It had it all. (except for the IP being star wars.)
EvE.
