Seriously, I mean really seriously!!! Just because its another Final Fantasy in the numbered lineup and not a standalone. Do we really need another single player Final Fantasy that bad since FFXI. Apparently all of these listed below that have been announced or released since FFXI launched is still not enough:

GameTrailers Video announcing this! ~ {"A true Final Fantasy it isn't" they say!}
Yes I know, who cares what GameTrailers thinks....which is where I'm at, but out of all the other crap that was shown at E3 this year and they pick one of the most anticipated games/MMO ever! This is just really sad...
Watching others and found the "Best Online Game" Announcement and yeah Final Fantasy XIV isn't even listed! Again really sad...

You see most FF players are not mmorpg players and dont get the idea of the mmorpg(yet), i know allot of FF players who are not heppy about 11 aswell >.>

Yeah I do remember the backlash that FFXI had to endure and still kinda does from some people, but still... There are what though; over 60 titles in the Final Fantasy world and only 2 are online.
Who cares what the western media says about jrpgs in general. I am tired of hell hearing about how the JRPG needs to advance, or change battle systems, or the plots are cliched, etc. Every freaking FPS has the same damn battle system that has been around since wolfenstien, but they never say it needs to evolve. And seriously, it can't, that is what makes it an FPS. 3rd person shooters, same thing, they have their own style of play that has been around forever. Same with platformers, etc.
Also, FPS games have crap stories, so do 3rd person and shooters. But, all these genres get free passes, but the JRPG gets hounded. They will stroke the western RPG all night long, even though, I find that an open world, or mutliple dialogue choices, doesn't really make for a great story.
Am I surprised they bagged on FFXIV? Not at all. Gametrailers mainly only deals with games that are hyped, and typically western. If its a western MMO, they will love it, but, being FFXIV is jap, they could care less, and equate it with a grind fest (which, evidently, is what every single mmo is anyways).
Well it really wasn't a big presentation. We all knew SE was working on an MMO (Rapture). So they just confirmed rapture was an FF MMO and gave a cinematic. If they had given real game footage like the UI, combat, and talked about game features and their ideas behind the game, it would have been voted much higher.
They are idiots.
Yeah, I don't understand the hate for FF either. I've seen it from friends who play mmo's. I've seen hate for FFXI from friends who play console FFs and don't like the idea of a monthly fee.
People for some reason really like to hate on FF. I can't figure it out. Oh well, their loss.
What I find funny is that people say that FF doesn't make a good online game, but when you really look at it FFXI plays just like the offline games. In all the other FFs you play in a party, do quests, and grind xp. FFXI just has other people control the other characters in your party. All other FFs are just single player MMOs. Honestly, FFXII made me mad because I couldn't do a lot of the stuff that I could do in FFXI.
I'm gonna have to agree with ignorance aspect of this. To many FF fanboy's only know the traditional games, and i know some buddies back before FFXI release. Thought that the idea of making FFXI would kill the whole franchise for them. Cause seriously the nerve of Squeenix making a awesome online game... thats FF. I don't get it, ... cause in a way i think most of them were just pissed off how long it took them to bring out the next traditional offline title FFXII, so they shat on FFXI every chance they got.
Truth be told I am looking forward to 13 more than 14
FF IX was the last single player FF game I looked forward to and loved. X, XII, and spinoffs have been lackluster to me. XI was godlike, and 1-9 were all special experiences that I played through 1-3 times each at least. So XIII I will wait and maybe pickup when I get a ps3 for XIV.
Me too but thats only because FFXIII comes out sooner of course
I thought the Alan Wake showing was pretty good.
Anyways, I think the "most disappointing" category was more popular than "best of show", so I guess the exposure was good.
I am pretty sure it all had to do with the amount of information that was out there for FFXIV. Aside from that short cinematic nothing real concrete has been reveled. SW-TOR has a lot more information out there, a lot more details, already 3 classes confirmed and 2 other ones pretty much guaranteed (Jedi and Sith). I believe it was all in the amount of information and not the excitment of the crowds that decided the voting.

This dude knows whats going on. Good post, very blunt and to the point. I really cant add too much to this seeing as how you pretty much wraped it up. i agree 100%
I don't think its because they hate either FF and MMOs in general. For example SWTOR (which they played the demo at E3) was their favorite online game and its an MMO, and i'm pretty sure Gametrailers doesn't hate FF because they have made a 13 different video very long retrospective on the series praising it and almost every game in it, I just think they are dissapointed by the lack of information and realistically the best Final Fantasy storylines are found in the singleplayer ones. Originally FFXI had story/cutscenes over other mmorpgs to make it stand out but now with Bioware creating an MMO with full voice acting for every character in the game, cutscenes, dialogue/ quest options that branch to different options/consequences, it kind overshadows Final Fantasy XIV until we get more info to see how it will try to innovate the genre.
Really!? FFXI has one of the best stories over all the others in the series! FFIV is the best followed by FFVI IMO!
The story cutscenes still stand out as only a handful of others do it now, and personally I think FFXI does them way better. You don't need voice to make them better...most times it makes them worse!
Gee... a gaming site is bagging on a Final Fantasy MMO announcement.
Wait... I think I feel surprise coming on... Yep.. almost...
ahh... damn.. nevermind. It's gone.
Seriously, they're bagging on and outright dismissing a game that's just been announced and that there's very little known of. Frankly, they're only demonstrating their blatant bias and ignorance in the process. My reaction when the "Online" showed up beneath the title was quite opposite from theirs... Mine was more like "Holy shit!" and then I watched the trailer again... several more times.
But then again, I've played FFXI since launch, I *know* what the game is like and I *know* all the detail and depth SE have built into it... So I have an idea of what we could well have in store for FFXIV... and to me, it's something to be excited about.
Also, anyone who says FFXI isn't a "true Final Fantasy" game needs to get the hell over it. Square-Enix defines what a Final Fantasy game is... not any individual player.
The story lines, character development, obscure little details, importance of groups, involved game systems, etc in XI are pure Final Fantasy. The character involvement in the game as you complete missions or other major story arcs are head and shoulders beyond anything I've ever seen in another MMO, personally. Of course, I've known of many people who insist any Final Fantasy game except "-insert their favorite FF title(s) here-" aren't true Final Fantasy games. So, I guess for those people, every new FF title to come out should be a re-make or re-telling of their favorite one in order for it to be a "real Final Fantasy title". So, why should this be any different.

I'll bet FFXIV is more entertaining then some of their single player offerings. I certainly liked FFXI a lot more then some of them. Titus is a bitch. FFX sucked. Yeah I said it.
No qualms here, I hated FFX...it was very poor and way to easy!
Yeah, I didn't like 10 or 12 or x2. All PS2 single player FF's have gone downhill. Here's hoping the PS3 will bring them back up. FFXIII vs. what little I've seen has been impressive. Strange how it isn't being talked about as much, or maybe not, as they don't want it to overshadow FFXIII and FXIV.
Once we all admit that final fantasy >8< was the best game ever made with 7 coming in close second we can all happily accept the next final fantasy Flame on baby
Surely you have this the wrong way around...
The feeling when you first left Midgar, and had a whole world to explore was immense. It can never be repeated, as we expect something like that, and now always will.
7 without a doubt for me.
Looking forward to see what FFXIV will have to offer, I'm not really playing any games atm, and need something to get my teeth into. (Aion as a stop gap probably)

Actually, I agree, FF 8 was the best of the series for me. Sorry, I'm a hopeless romantic and I liked the more realistic character models, and the music was the best the series had yet heard.
A lot of people who call themselves Final Fantasy fans really only liked 7, they bash everything else. I also heard some claim FFXIV shouldnt be numbered because its an mmo which is a very idiotic thing to bitch about imo.
I'm probably in the minority on this one but I actually hated 8. I loved 7, 9, 10 and 11. I thought 12 was decent but it felt like a single play XI to me. Have not played the others except 3 I think I played the remake on DS. 7 is probably my all time favorite rpg, but thats probably because it was the first one I played.
