Ok I have enough of this PR hogwash of Bioware. I mean, I am still as interested in TOR as ever, but I have decided to take my distance of all this. It is at the point of getting ridiculous. I just have enough of Bioware pretending to talk about their game. Sure, they have all make it in secrecy as if they forged the Illuminaty of as of Bioware was the friggin area 51, but for G_ds sake, its a damn computer game!

Now this recent so called "fan friday" info is just the last of a series of journalistic mockery. I dont know if half of the interviewers are paid or just too plain dumb to ask the right questions, and NOT let them endlessly blabber nonsense like "it is about story". Why do they give interviews anyway, when 9 out of 10 questions are "it is awesome, but I cant tell neener neener." Are we here in the kindergarden with kids secrets? Damn, as if we never had seen a MF MMO before! And all that so called info... the classes. Ok, we know Bounty Hunter exists. Whoa... but what does he do? How does he fight? We know little to nothing, and I am sick and tired of Bioware mocking us with PR blah blah that is much ado about nothing to say. Either you say something, then you have SOMETHING to say, or you STFU, but you spare us any further of those verbal smoke bombs.

Then you can come back to us presenting your shiny, when you have something to say.

The questions the 'journalists' ask are pre-approved by both LucasArts and BioWare (or EA).  That is how all game previews are done, and why most previews sound like a PR release.  It isn't just the video game industry that does this.  It is common practice in politics and other comercial industries.  'Journalists' often trade ethics for access.

Yeah i know what you mean but everone does it. You cant let all the details out cuz you gotta have a little sense of mystery to keep a buzz about the game  going . Plus this gives us reasons to post stuff on the intraweb and occupy our time instead of doing work around the house.

  • Havok2allHavok2all Member UncommonPosts: 190

Nothing is finalized. It is esier not to answer the questions, than to answer them then have something change and then have to go back and correct all the previous answers.

Until they are sure something is going to be permanent, they aren't going to release any detailed information. They won't know anything is finalized until the do actual gameplay testing. Since they haven't even finalized all the classes, you won't be seeing any gameplay details for awhile.

Right now, the game is in the building stage which is mostly world building, textures, concept art, visual stuff etc. The mechanics will come later once the building blocks have been decided.

To be honest, their method is brilliant.  The amount of word of mouth advertising and the frenzy that is resulting due to the lack of information is making this game even more popular than it would have been if we knew every detail.

The anticipation they are creating will have more people give the game a try than normally would have due to specific game play elements that don't appeal to them and may end up liking the game despite percieved flaws.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

their method is what? its pathetic.. i stopped watching half of swtor interviews, cuz all of them are the same.. even if its not interview.. its same.. you know.. THIS GAME IS ABOUT STORY, more story.. and even more story ,

i mean they keep going on same and same.. few more of those and ill seriously start thinking they are adresing this to those 15 years olds.. cuz im gettin too old to listen to same crap for half of the year.. , e3 interviews were such joke. there were so many... you could probably find 2-3 hours of interviews from e3 alone.. from those 3 hours, for 2.30 h they will be saying . game is about story, and how story is important.. it makes me sick , if i wanted blind and dull story which they are making with those shity interviews. i would take a book and read.. but i dont.. if i turn on some video, i expect to hear or see something about same 3 words. story story story.. christ..

Yet here you are talking about the game and giving it more free publicity.  I think he had it right, perfect strategy.

It's one thing to hide some info about your game, but not even giving real gameplay footage yet, or even saying most of the classes. It just pisses me off. Even Blizzard, one of the most secretive companies I can think of give more info than BioWare is giving us. Thing I hate the most though, they think that the name BioWare, Star Wars, KOTOR will carry the game, so it's an excuse to not release info on it. That's bs.

I've been saying this for months now. Everytime they have an interview about the game it's nothing but...STORYYYYY.

    Interview 1:

Q: So what can we expect to see in the game?

    A: STORYYYYY

    Interview 2:

Q: Is there anything special you have planned for the game?

    A: Yup. STORYYYYYY

    Interview 3:

Q: What can we exepct to see in next months newsletter?

A: Take a guess! Nope...not crafting (we hate crafting). Nope nothing on PvP either!

        You guessed it! STORYYYYYY

So is making a thread about how you are quitting forums for something no one can control. A lot of the Media hype you see is actually planned months ahead of time, and so are the articles. It's not like any 1 person has control over the flow. They release stuff as scheduled. Videos ect are downloaded direct from LEC every Friday at a certain time, and you get what you get when BioWare puts it up for you.

I have to say, I don't think it is secrecy so much as caution.  They are trying to build player interest, but at the same time are practicing CYA.  Never promise or even hint at what you can't deliver.  Until they are far enough along that something is a "given" it will be in the game in some form, they say nothing.  So now we get theatrics and generalities.  Maybe with some patience we will get more meat.

Consider the business side of this.  The publicity and public interest makes the shareholders happy and the stock goes up and they have money to operate on.   Think of it as funding the building of the game!

If my memory serves me correct little to Nothing about WoW was really known until the game went into Beta and then several things changed too which really pissed off some people (i'd rather know about things when its set in stone).   Blizzard like Bioware says little about their game until they're ready.  I think its hilarious that everyone is getting all up and arms that nothing drastic was released about the game other than how indepth the story works in the game.

There's no release date, no date for possible beta sign ups much less an estimate of either ... its pretty safe to say with over a year maybe even two away from release we're not going to hear anything until Bioware is good and ready and Beta is about to happen.   Its actually really smart.

If they go and promote some new way they want to do PVP or Crafting you can bet that if its something that strikes a cord with the masses...Blizzard will sweep it up dumb it down and put it into their game just like they did with several systems from Warhammer.   Its to late in the game to create major Story affecting changes that allow you to have different experiences with your character into WoW but its NOT for their new unnamed MMO.

Everyone says "Oh it affects nothing" if Blizzard finds out early enough.  Thats a total lie. Look at every game released in the past few years.  The moment enough is known about the game Blizzard times a release of something big around the release of said game.  They did it to Lord of the Rings,  They did it to Warhammer, hell they even did it with Everquest 2.  Blizzard is uber competitive and Bioware knows that hell we even know that.  Its safe to say Bioware as much as they say they aren't worried are atleast playing on the defensive.

As much as I would die to know more about the game so I can decide if i want on the bandwagon or not I think its retard that people are going this crazy for info at this point in time.     I'm betting the OP like several other times he's gone and said he's "DONE" talking about a particular game will be back the next time some new big info other than a class name comes back.   I dont think I've ever seen him say a nice thing about any game other than Everquest I look forward to more of the OP's non enlightening posts.

Are you speaking for the entire community right now?

After all, you made a post with an opinion. Surely you are speaking on behalf of the world's population.

PS. Seriously, are people this stupid? If you disagree with someone you argue a different angle, not flame the discussion itself like a 12 year old. Then again. we're talking about people who spend their free time taking internet quizes about Final Fantasy.

Ahh. It's always funny when people start attacking my signature. It shows they are really really trying to make me look bad for no reason other than they don't like what I am saying. It's amusing, really. Always happens when people run out of stuff to actually reply to the things I post.

As for the first two lines of your post. They don't even make sense. I made a simple observation. Read the replies in your own threads and you will find that most of what you classify as "flaming" is simply people telling you that they would rather not have you speak for them.

Now, if you have something to discuss with me, why not stick to things I type instead of grabbing for little empty jabs at my personality based on an Internet Forum signature, hm?

So your saying you'd be more inclined to buy and pay to play if they told you everything about the game down to the last pixel? Rather than keep something hidden for a surprise? Do you not like surprises? I can't imagine what you must have gone through as a child. What happens if something changes between the interviews and launch? A class gets switched, an area deleted? Are you gonna write and QQ saying "you said [insert inane thing] was gonna be in here? I'm telling on you! Wah."

This is marketing and advertising. They're keeping people hooked. They're making a big deal about story because this concept is new. If it bothers you that much go track another game so our forums won't be so hot from all the flaming.

    Pretty much.

I honestly don't know what people expect. Are BioWare supposed to tell you everything they've got planned for TOR now while still programming the game? That makes no sense, especially since things could always change between now and when TOR finally hits beta. Quite frankly, I'd rather have BioWare talk about story and keep folks interested while giving vague, hinting answers to everything else than have them pull a Peter Molyneux and over-hype or over-promise the world.

I'm watching this game with interest because it's BioWare, but I won't make up my mind on it until I actually play it in a free trial or in beta. Getting worked up about it now, either positively or negatively, is pointless. It's like getting angry about a bad meal in a restaurant before you've even seen the menu.
