I used to play 8+ hours a day...

Now I would rather sit around and watch HGTV ( http://www.hgtv.com/ ) instead of playing a MMO.  It's really pretty sad to tell you the truth.  I want the retards at SOE to make a SWG pre nge server or....hell...that would do it i guess.  I didn't even like SWG back in the day but now I remember how it played and wish I could go back and try it again like it used to be.  I'm currently playing the SWG that is now and it's ok...just different.  But like I said...I spend more time watching HGTV than I do anything else.  Sad days...sad days. :(

I somewhat agree on the basis of playing that much a day is quite rediculous now that I think back on it.  I would like a game that I could play for 3-4 hours a day comfortably though.

I shut down my 8+ hour MMORPG habit on January 14 of this year.

Since then, I dedicated that time to my comic book artwork, which I'd abandoned for years while playing MMOs.

I have two paying jobs drawing comic books now, and I'm in the running for a comics adaptation of a story by a Nebula-award winning author.

Keep MMORPGs restricted to that part of your life where hobbies and games fit.  It's amazing the great opportunites that are out here in the Real World if you just let go of the virtual and embrace the real.

(MMO addict since 1997, now drawing awesome comic books and being paid for it.  Priceless.)

Now I wake up every day and ask myself, "Do you want a level 70 Warlock in a year, or do you want to be drawing Spider-Man in a year?"  Easy choice.

TV rots the brain.  Its a known fact.  MMO's make you think, well most make you think.  The more you use your mind, the more sharp you stay.  Also, eat blueberrys.

Good luck on winning the comic book gig. It would be really cool to draw a comic for a neubula ward winning story.

Is 8 hours a day to much? Depends on what's going on in your life at the time. Sometimes you need to veg out for a few months and play video games. It beats going postal.

I used to pull those hours gaming online. Then something big happened - marriage and two kids! :D I began to realized that they are infinitely more important, and have regulated to a few hours late night before bed and a little more on weekends.

Still, when I look back on all the free time wasted when I might have done something  a bit more lasting, I do feel I lost some good opportunities as far as things I could have done or gone seen. So this may well be a blessing in disguise so to speak. You only live once, so make the most of your time.  Not trying to be preachy, just an observation I made in my life.

    cheers

Uneducational TV rots the brain, like anything on FOX. I dislike TV greatly but I will support Discovery type channels. At least he's learning how to improve/remodel his home.

I think you hit on his point better than he did.  MMOs *used* to make you think.  Now, watching TV makes you think more than playing a mmo.  What does that say about today's mmos?

Well as opposed to crunch time where I was staring at a monitor for 12+ hours a day .. 7 days a week.

    8 hours a day isn't bad...

I don't "play" game anywhere near as much as I used to.. simply because most of them aren't fun to me.  When I find something that is fun I can still pull an all day into the morning stunt.

Most of the time when I'm not doing stuff for "work" I... watch the history channel or variation of... or some science related channel.

If I find antoher MMO or game I really enjoy I'm sure I'll put my tv habit on hold a while.  Tho I do a lot of hiking and that doesn't get stopped by gaming or tv... *.*  ... then again I guess if I wanted I could take my mobile internet option and take my laptop hiking..

but I actually "hike" to get away from people and tech for the most part.

    /shrug

At a 2007 symposium on berry health benefits were reports showing consumption of blueberries (and similar berry fruits including cranberries) may alleviate the cognitive decline occurring in Alzheimer's disease and other conditions of aging.[17]

We always remember things better than they were. You'd be just as disappointed if you could play it the way it was.

Sounds like MMOGs are not for you.

If you have the time to be playing 8+ hours a day, just make sure you spread it out. Marathon gaming sessions are much worse than a, say, 2 hour session with a couple hours break, then maybe a 3 hour session, hang out with some friends, then play longer at night before bed. Or whatever.

But it seems the point of this thread is how much he doesn't like MMOs anymore.

lol Are you kidding me, mate? lol what aspects are you sighting as mind-sharpening? Bunny-bashing on demand? Endlessly accepting cookie-cutter quests ?

Hell, you don't even have to take notes anymore when on a quest, teh game does it for you.. most of the time, there is a giant flashing marker on the map telling you where to go

Most games these days are a digital version of a gerbil wheel....abnd guess who the gerbils are....

I spend a reasonable amount of time playing on the PC and consoles, but I keep active and fit by running and working out and doing other activities. So I believe due to all the other activities I do, I'm pretty healthy. I'm not that keen on TV to be honest, but I occassionally settle down to watch a movie. But in my view, I'd rather game then watch TV.
