If you like PvP, why not to try Runes of Magic

Ok, so here goes my tale of Runes of Magic.

First out I would like to point out that the PvE aspect of the game was fun! Multi-class leveling brought a whole new sense of fun to the MMORPG world. And I am only writing this to let people know of the PvP aspect of the game.

Ok, so I started by joining the only PvP server because in my opinion if there no PvP theres no fun.

After reaching level 10, I joined a guild, bought a vent and let the fun begin. Blazing through quests, enjoying the multiclass fun, and having fun with crafting I relized it was time to PvP! (I was level 26 Priest/Mage)

Heres where the horrer comes in. If you want to PvP in RoM.. well you shouldn't actually (and this is far after realizing the negative side effects to it) you will become a criminal. Therefor guards will attack you, and other players will non stop gank you. yes getting ganked is a drag but a huge part of any PvP MMO. The question I have is why make a PvP server and have such huge negative effects for people that like to PvP (on a pvp server.. lol) I couldn't level any farther because of guards pwning you at every city making it impossible to pick up good quests. Yes, Yes I know you can wait till your reputation comes back down.. but if you spend a whole night PK'ing players and get about -350 rep.. who wants to sit in game hours and hours waiting for it to come back down? Waste of time if your a PvP'er.

So all in all, play it if you love PvE/Crafting. But if your a PvP'er like myself.. find yourself a new game :(

Thanks for reading all, and play safe.

    Hi,

As you mentioned, the PvE is very nice. As for the PvP, since there is no official enemy factions like in EQ2, WOW, WAR, etc... All PvP is on that server is a gankfest. I totally agree with you that the guards attacking you is crazy. Honestly, I love PvP, but on a part time basis, so a continual gankfest turned me off and I rolled on the PvE server Artemis.

I'm no expert, but if PvP is to be more meaningful at least from my perspective, then there needs to be another major faction in opposition like found in the gamers I listed above.

Do the guards attack you even if the players you killed fought back?

In L2 you go red if you kill someone thats not in war with you and that did not fight back, it still has the most fun pvp of any mmorpg i have tried.

Item Mall games are a total joke a cost more in the long run then sub games. That why ill never try ruins of magic

Nice.... Seems like what they do is appropriate.  I mean any game that lets you just run around killing rampant with no reprocussions from society really kills the whole immersion of the world.  That said you can kill someone that pisses you off and recover your reputation which is also cool...

Based on this I'm gonna need to check this out.

    thanks

I much prefer the free client, P2P game, The Chronicles of Spellborn. Despite it's lacking population, the game is great, including the lore and the PvP.

i played ROM in beta on the pvp server. it was indeed a gankfest and people spent crazy amounts of real money to get redic items ingame so it wasn't very fun. guards only attack you if youre red. it was pretty fun slaughtering lowbie towns by yourself tho. lvling isnt bad either.

here's my question about pvp in RoM...can a non-cash shop player play on equal grounds as someone that can spend hundreds of dollars? I don't mind spending money on a game but I don't like to feel that i'm forced to do so in order to be a competitive player.

Not really. Yeah, you have mad amounts of time you can earn enough gold to do it w/o the cash shop, but for normal humans, plan on spending anywhere from 250 (avg lvl 50 gear) to -4000 dollars (for extreme gear like PureEvil has)

Right now, the twink phenomenon is strong and there are large numbers of level 25's or so that are wearing gear that gives them 4k HPs (more than double a typical player) and you're only real options are to either avoid them or overwhelm them with superior numbers.

OP is exaggerating the effect of the guards however, they aren't found everywhere (else I wouldn't die so much in towns) and reds have no problem getting into and manuevring  around towns, though it seems to me most reds stop their leveling once they make the decision to go red, hence those 25's I mentioned probably have 50 mains somewhere as well.
