Which do you think FFXIV will have, and which would you prefer?
I hear people on the JP forums are already pushign for it to be regional servers only, say it isn't so SE!
come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together and try to love one another right now... and so on
Integration NOW! Segregation NEVER!

Personally playing with Japanese players was one of, if not my favorite part of FFXI (hard to say looking back now what my favorite part of FFXI was but it was definitley the most memorable and engaging mmo I have played).
It wasn't always perfect, and I know alot of people had bad experiences with "elitist" Japanese players or monopolizing linkshells, and I know on the other side lots of JP players might be pushing for regional servers because of bad experiences with "rude" NA players.
I was in an NA HNMLS but I grouped with jp players quite often especially because I play late at night here in Hawaii, I speak a tiny bit of japanese and it was fun enough talking to them in romaji that I actually bought a JP version of the game so I could type japanese characters. Which wasn't the best idea since like I said my Japanese was terrible, though my emoticons definitley improved.. Still it was fun, and it was interesting talking to them I and I made a lot of JP friends. I play vanguard now and have several Japanese players in my Australian guild, and it makes a big difference to me not having to play solely with American players.
I'm American (if you want to get technical, I live in Hawaii so screw the "lower 48" =P), but I'll be honest there are times I really don't like playing with you all. NA communities have in my opinion ruined a lot of things in MMO's that I actually enjoyed with their whining and complaining, they are rude a lot of the time, and they just generally get on my nerve. Not all of them, but if I'm forced to only play with other NA people it might affect my decision to buy this game (well not buy it, that is a given from how much I loved FFXI but at least whether or not I will stick with it as long as I did FFXI).
All that being said the NA community on FFXI was better than any other I have experienced in other MMO's and that has probably a lot to do with the forced grouping but also in my opinion the influence of a multicultural server population.

I liked playing and interacting with people all over. Auto translater made it possible to communicate and have small talk which was kinda nice, but for the sake of latency I think I would rather have regional servers this time around.
I claimed against JP linkshells up until 2007 when I quit and I didn't bot so I don't understand the latency issues people had in FFXI it just didn't seem that bad and combat was slow enough that I never thought ping was a huge issue.
I'd rather that they institute things like ability queuing and have mobs spawn locked out for a few seconds to aleviate some of those issues than stick everyone on regional servers.
This is the internet the idea of regional anything just irks me.

Worldwide for the win! After FFXIV weeds out all the players that can't, don't or won't:
We few remaining in the US; just like with FFXI, will require the population of Japan and other countries to play with once again!
Personally, I'd rather be a on a server where everybody speaks my language.
That is probably why the JP Forums are asking for there own server.
I really don't care about this that much, not really a make or break thing for the game.
worldwide servers without some JP players, dumb racist fucks
Sorry buddy, but American players are worse than jap players anyday.
I personally wanna keep the worldwide servers. I like to play later at night sometimes, and if there are no jap players, then the server is pretty dead. I also like partying with jap players, and european players. It's fun, and most of the better parties I am in are with jap players.
