There has been a rumor floating around for a while that there is a type of Legacy system in TOR where when you reach top level you have the option to produce an offspring and continue the game as a new class. What do you guys think? Sound like a cool way to explore other classes in TOR? Or would you rather have the option to make 8 chars on the same server one of each classes on one account?
Comments
I much perfer to 'just' make another class and play through with them. But personally I am not an Alt fan. I stick with my main.

Yeah, ummm.........isn't that the same thing as rolling an alt except with back story of your father/mother?
Sort of reminds me of how LoTRO uses morale instead of health to get around the 'your character doesn't die and magically respawn' thing.
Playing: Tera, BF3, ME3
Waiting on: Guild Wars 2
You spelled rumored wrong
I would rather have the option to roll alts at anytime. Very rarely is the class i start with the one i end up playing the most. An alt usually becomes my main.
I kind of like the idea. I usually research every class pretty heavily before deciding on my first character, so I'm not an altaholic, but I dabble in them from time to time. This seems like an interesting idea/option.
Just noticed that as well, it happens, I'll fix it.
This sounds like an exceptionally useless feature. Why is my kid old enough to be a bounty hunter?
The Illusion of Choice
sounds like an excuse to avoid deep endgame
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
lol. Shouldn't it be 'spelt'?
Or were you just being ironic?
more rumors..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsayCi8DDIs&feature=related
Well.. read that post from the ahazi.org link from the OP. That was posted as a rumour in 2007 and most of the list was accurate.. TOR was announced in 2008.
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
I'd rather be able to switch class with my main character whenever I want like in SWG.
Then go play SWG.
I'd much rather switch classes on my main character than re-grind a new character. I like playing different classes and different roles, but I hate the way some games use alts as an "extend your playtime" feature and make you regrind the hours of boring leveling just to reach end game and be able to play your new class.
If I couldn't have switchable mains, I'd next rather have many alts on the same server.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Then go play SWG.
Is that the attitude we are taking now? If SWG did something good, we should just go play SWG instead of suggesting TOR do it as well (which, btw, you can't change class in SWG anymore.)

I'd prefer to just make a new one. That way I could have one of each class, instead of having offspring and killing off the other one.

Yeah but this game isn't SWG, and it's not gonna do everything (nor should it) that swg did, or no one would play it. What's wrong with the emu everyone has been so excited about for years now?

wurd...... I remember taking a survey that asked questions about whether I would play an MMO based on KOTOR as well, right after the NGE. It asked why you canceled, what did you think about the newest expansion for SWG (at the time ToOW). How much would you pay per month to play a game based on KOTOR. Sounds like this guy got something similar, but a bit more indepth.
The part about the player customizable starships that could be 'stolen' was very interesting too... that was in one of the dev diary videos for the planet Ord Mantell I think, where he teased and said they "will steal your starship'.. hehe

ding ding ding. winner, everything they say sounds like excuse for no endgame.. roll new class.. f.ck random npc and get child.. and get another alt. you can mindcontrol, and take over his body.. and continue, then f.ck another npc.. and so the circle of life continues.. well apart whole mind control/body implanting thing.. but eh..
Then go play SWG.

Sounds to me like someone doesn't know what they are talking about. Maybe you should actually try SWG before talking about it like you actually have a clue.. cause here is a hint.. you don't. SWG Vets have a 10 use item that lets them change their class and it doesn't drop your current level, or, all players have the choice to go to a profession merchant and pay for either a class change, or to reset their talent tree's.
So yes, you can change your class in SWG, and its easier then it was in Pre-CU because you don't have to regrind the new class you just pay and it converts you automatically and you keep your current level, Ive been between Medic, Officer, Jedi, BH and Commando numerous times in the last month alone for what we needed in BG's more at the time.
I like the old system of class lay out more, but really, at least if you are going to hate on something make sure you are right about the complaint before speaking up and make sure its actual facts not just rhetoric.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off , why should I. Light up the darkness Bob Marley
Maybe they could do something like the CoX games!? So, when you get a character to max, the lineage means that two more classes get unlocked (10 in total) and you start the new class (as a child) and play it thorugh to the end. That way, there is new content to be had and it would work better I think. What do you think?
Yeah, I honestly don't see a point to it, unless you get some sort of bonuses to being a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc generation character, like bonuses to stats or xp. Sounds like a glorified way to roll an alt that's the same race and shares the same last name, as others have pointed out.
I welcome the idea of having having a chanse to procreate vitually, make that a minigame and it's going to be all I ever do in this game.
On a more serious level I'd like to say that if the only way to play an alt is through this rumoured legacy system, then it seems to me like a very bad idea. But if you can create an alt anyime you like and this legacy system being a way to incite people to experience once class to the "finish" before you move on, then it's all good in my book.
Slacker extraordinaire!
