City of Heroes: Power Customization in Issue 16

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

In a new post on the official City of Heroes forums, Positron teases Power Customization as a major feature of Issue 16.

Responding to speculation that the upcoming City of Heroes/Villains expansion "Going Rogue" would be Issue 16, Positron debunks the theory by revealing what Issue 16 will actually be all about. They say pictures are worth 1000 words, and so Positron said nothing, instead he simply dropped these little bombshells below:

The screenshots, appropriately named blue_fire_dominator, and purple_fire_control are pretty clear indicators that yes, power customization is on its way!

Awesome :-) To be honest new content would be better, but it does add to the already awesome customization in CoX

MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor

    OR...

It's a pretty clear indicator that Dominators get blue imps and Controllers get get purple imps.

Wouldn't it have been less vague to have blue_fire_dominator and purple_fire_dominator pictures?

This would have been amazing news maybe 2 years ago. This ship has sailed, and there are shiny new ones on the horizon. Better late than never I suppose, but...eh.

I hope this isn't like the issue where the main focus was updated wall/floor graphics.  I'd like some new content. Add zones like Cimerora.

Nothing in those shots to lift my kilt up. It strikes me that this looks an awful lot like one of those things that players really wanted, but were told that it was too much work for the team to do it. Speaking of which, I wonder how the devs are doing on fixing those in-the-game, then out-of-the-game flying animations. Funny how having a couple of competitors on the horizon motivates this crowd. Maybe they should have taken care of their customers when they had them.

Amazing someone complains about wanting more content.

Issue 14 added player made content.  Quite a lot of it out there already and more being added daily if not hourly.

Issue 13 was mainly day jobs being added as well as the villain "empathy" powerset.  No new content here.

Issue 12 was Midnight Hour, more content added.

Issue 11 was Stitch in Time, adding more content AND the ability to replay missions you may have previously outleveled.

Issue 10 was Invasion, my personal favorite as this was truly a well done world event.  Also, more content added.

So would seem a lot of content added recently.  Four of the five last Issues added content as a matter of fact.  So if Issue 16 just adds customizations and other quality of life features, that would be fine with me.  Most likely Issue 17, 18, 19 would be ... more content.

I played CoX for three years and the story was that the technology wouldn't allow for power customization.  Now that they have compittion they can suddenly do this and allow players to cross over to good side and evil side.  I think the devs got lazy after NCsoft bought them and now are scrambling to keep the game relevant.

CoX is not a bad game, just old.  It needs new content and new people in there to write and develop it.  For me the player generated content was a statement from the devs that they were deviod of fresh ideas.

    Just my $.02

    Still - I love competition.

Nothing like fear to wake up people and make them really work.

It seems to me, that when NCSoft bought CoX from Cryptic, the Issues started coming out quicker.  One of the big complaints before was that after CoV came out the Issues were slow to be released.

Seems that NCSoft wanted another retail expansion as well since CoV came out Oct '05.  Power customization seems to just fit with their philosophy of keeping CoX at the top of MMO's for customization options.
