DDO New Players

Following the news of f2p ddo, I'm finally going to try the 10 day trial. What is the most populated of the ddo servers? (I like having the biggest community in mmos). Thanks

why not wait till the free 2 play is released? Because server pops will change then

good point, but just for kicks now, do you have a server name?

I play on the EU servers so can't give a direct recommendation, but when this topic comes up Thelanis is often suggested.

It will be interesting to see what happens with DDO after the switch to F2P..if succesful you very well may see other 'underperforming' P2P mmos go the same route

I don't play DDO anymore, but it's because I dislike Turbine, not because I didn't enjoy the game.

I have friends who still play, and from discussions we've had lately, do not go to Khyber.  That server seems to be populated by insane people.  They are literally mobilizing as if new players were the plague.   Now if you're psycho, this might be the server for you.

I was on Ghallandra and my friends are still there, and it has always seemed to be a nice friendly server to me.

edit:  I understand if you get the free trial, you can possibly get into the beta which may last a while, so probably worth doing if you're interested.

Nah, Kyber is like that because all the Aussies and Kiwis flocked to it (me being one of them).  It really is an awesome and active server.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I play on Argonessen and it is always bustling with players, maybe not in the WEE hours of the morning (est) but for the most part, theres at least one group on the LFM for a level range.

And if you dont see a group up for your level range, make one! The players are there but everyone is just shy!

I started the 10-day trial yesterday and only have a choice of Keeper or Devourer. I'm in the UK...god knows where these servers are based

If the players were really there Turbine would not be taking DDO Free to Play.

Those are the EU servers, populations are quite even between them so pick whichever you fancy.

Last I knew was free to play is not coming, at least for now, to eu servers. From the Uk you connect to the europe servers.

I'm sure Khyber has some very nice people and I know a majority of actual players never post on forums.

That said, I mentioned this to my friends last night, and it started a truly entertaining discussion of recent Khyber posts on the boards (makes me almost want to sub for access to the boards). I can't remember all they mentioned, but the guilds are forming an alliance to keep new players out, there were discussions about how to identify f2p players, young players are the evil of the world, keep our game pure, etc. They admitted they were exagerating one time, but claimed they weren't on the rest. It seems to have the playerbase up in arms over new players getting to play their game. They said Khyber seems to have the most negativity, but there are chronic naysayers who put down any positive post on the boards and one super-DDO guru in particular who kills virtually every post he can by just stating anyone who doesn't agree with him is wrong with nothing to back it up and never stopping to the point where you just give up in frustration (the word fallacious is forever ingrained on my brain after their discussion, lol).

It was funny, but at the same time its sad. As I mentioned, I'm not fan of Turbine, but the DDO game itself wasn't bad, and I think it could be a very good fit for F2P. But the players are so close-minded, It seems they will do their best to kill any excitement enthusiasm of new players if they can.  They were trying to get me to play again, and they are quite frustrated themselves.   That doesn't seem very postive for the game at all.

Well, new players are the plague; but then, I play on khyber :)

Seriously, the learning curve on this game is like the frigging Matterhorn. Usually, it takes until your 3rd or 4th level-capped, fully raid geared character before you really get it down.

The deal with khyber is that we have a pretty diverse crowd, and for some strange reason, several well-known players like to have cyber-sex over voice chat while running quests. Sexual innuendo, practical jokes (teleporting people to the wrong place, chat pranks, etc), and general mayhem are fairly common.

    So, yea, psycho. But fun!

    Just to remind you

F2P DDO will happen only on USA servers.

So if you want to get into the groove and test the game now. Test USA version

    Also

F2P DDO is improved new version of DDO, i guess they are using new engine and all

And you will need to redownload the game ( if you counted on only upgrading trial client)

  • reploidxreploidx Member UncommonPosts: 320

I recommend signing up for the beta at DDO.com, and you can just play the full game for free (they are still accepting invitations for the beta, so sign up quick)

    What new engine?

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

Maybe not new engine. But i read on DDO forums that people in beta had to have separate game client

DDO has always required a seperate DL for the preview/beta test server. It is called the lamannia server and requires a download and a change in a file to make it work. It is one of the main reasons I never beta for them. I hate needing to copy and download an extra game client just to use a test server.
