New CCP MMO Announcement in August

DarkholmeDarkholme Member UncommonPosts: 1,212

I didn't see a peep about this on the forums, so I decided I'd post. If there is already a thread going about this point me to it.

So CCP has said that they are going to announce their new MMOG they are working on, some time in August...

Taking bets... mine is that it is the World of Darkness MMO with White Wolf. If so, I am extremely stoked.

World of Darkness. It’s a place very much like our world, sharing the same history, culture and geography. Superficially, most people in this fictional world live the same lives we do. They eat the same food, wear the same clothes, and waste time watching the same stupid TV shows. And yet, in the World of Darkness, shadows are deeper, nights are darker, fog is thicker. If, in our world, a neighborhood has a rundown house that gives people the creeps, in the World of Darkness, that house emits strange sighs on certain nights of the year, and seems to have a human face when seen from the corner of one’s eye. Or so some neighbors say. In our world, there are urban legends. In the World of Darkness, there are urban legends whispered into the ears of autistic children by invisible spiders.

On topic, I feel that the announcement is only a official announcement of World of Darkness as it's pretty common knownledge it's going to be their new MMO due to the many articles/interviews that have been given.

It would actualy suprise me if it would be anything else.

    World of Darkness Wiki  ;-)

It's basically a horror genre with your classic vampires, werewolves, and everything else...

    No.

It's about playing werewolves, vampires, and  mages. Gothic type modern settings. More adult in theme and has a large following including Live Action Roleplay (LARP) as well as PnP crowd.

I have played a WoD game.  Less dices and more roleplay. I like it.  But feel more like a "system" to roleplay withouth numbers than something related to videogames.

The WoD world, well...    It could be usefull, if you want to mix fantasy and modern settings, I suppose. Tchulu and robots and normal day stuff.

Probably why we're not going to see Ambulation any time soon in EvE.

if you think about it, the skillup system in eve is very much like the world of darkness Pnp.  5 ranks (dots) in everything , each dot costsmore to raise, some skills take more exp to raise per dot than others.

makes me wonder how long ago the WoD game was thought up?

Some people say that ambulation in EVE will be taken from the work being done for WOD.

The game system and world were released in 1991, although I am sure the concept was in development at least a couple of years before that...

Probably a pretty fair assumption, even considering the little information that's been announced for the game, and the future of ambulation in EVE... indications point in that direction and it seems logical.

    I dunno about that.

I always kind of assumed they would put Ambulation in EVE sort of as a test-drive for the engine. Assuming they use the same engine for their WoD game, it owuld give them excellent testing surroundings in a live game. And Ambulation is really nothing EVE -needs-, so the only reason I can think of is that they want to try it out under live conditions more or less.

The guys will gain lots of expertise doing a full game with  humanoids, so wen humanoids and ambulatory is finally added to EvE, it willbe with more experience, better tools, models, and artist, maybe even reusing some assets (reskined to add sci-fi).  So on the long term, it mean better ambulatory.

Oh, and I don't think it has been mentioned on this thread, but you can forget it about it using WoD as you knew it. They'll be using the the new version of WoD so get familiar with the 2006 and on version of WoD. The 1991 stuff is dead. White Wolf has said such in those words and there's no reason to think CCP is going to go back on that unless something dramatic happens.

Hmmm, I searched and searched but for some reason kept coming back with nothing...

Also, I am aware of the current state of the WoD pnp rpg as I still play it from time to time, and am in the business. The poster I was responding to asked when the game system was first designed, and although I am aware that it has gone through many changes and iterations, as most pnp rpgs do over the years, it's basically the same game. I've been playing pnp rpgs for about 30 years now, and try to keep myself in the loop with most games...

If WoDO is skilled based and not level based CCP just might replace Turbine as my favorite MMO company. As it stands AC was/is my favorite MMO of all time. A good skill based WoD MMO could replace that.
