So if I pre-order now from EBGames.com, I can play.. now?

e3kmousee3kmouse Member Posts: 10

I'm a little confused.

This is my understanding:

1) There is currently a closed beta happening.

2) If you pre-order, you get in to play the closed beta, as soon as you get the client downloaded.

3) There are also "beta events" happening.... What are these?

Could someone clarify. I would love to pre-order and test the game out....

Thanks.

The beta is not active at the moment. The next beta preview is July 2nd, during that weekend. Yes, if you preorder you'll get to play in that beta. However, just to clarify, you could not play righ tnow since the beta is closed.

If you buy and d/l the client now you will get access to the beta events, the next 1 starts on the 2nd of July and end's 5th July, the next dates are..

    3. 17-19 July CBT The Abyss

    4. 14-16 August first phase of OBT

    5. 19-23 August second phase of OBT

    (subject to change)

That is all you will get at the moment.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

They have a schedule of beta "events'. These seem to be occuring every 2 weeks, for 2 or 3 days, increasing in duration as the weeks pass leading to launch.

So yes, at this moment  the beta  is not active, but pre-ordering gets you access to the next event and all subsequent events.

So it looks like they will have an Open Beta test toward the end of August then.... if that's what OBT means... :)

Yes that is what OBT stands for,but like I said at the bottom this is all subject to change, they changed the last beta test at the last moment to include the elyos side,so dont bank on there not being more change's.

What about the limited amount of those passes?  How do I know I wont get that message when I preorder?

Because it is a pre-order bonus, they wont run out of things like this,it was the earlier beta events that were limited and keys were handed out, once you upgrade your account with the pre-order key you will be allowed into the events between now and launch, including early access.

Preorder then, because you will. Make sure Gamestop/EB Games gives you the Preorder box though.

Just to clarify to alot of people, I had recently pre-ordered the CR edition from EB but did not get a pre-order code/card as they have ran out. So before you make your way down be sure to call them if you wanna get access to beta as it seems the instore pre order placement is not a surefire way to get a beta code//preorder code. Best way I can suggest is prepurchase online at http://us.ncsoft.com/en/aion/ which I believe will guarentee you a beta key.

I just purchased the preorder today and my local gamestop still had beta card keys.  I just entered it and downloading the client now.  Although I will have to wait a week before I can use it.  Oh well.  A week isn't really that long.

And for those that didn't know, there are two character wipes.

Closed Beta Events --> Wipe --> Open Beta Events --> Wipe --> Headstart (to secure your names/servers and get started) --> Retail.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

/played: EQ, EQ II, DAoC, WoW, LoTRO, AoC, CoH/CoV, WAR, Aion, Tera, Wildstar and many others that don't merit listing

    /playing: Clash of Clans, Hearthstone

go preorder from Ncsoft rather from Ebgames. Why? because if you preorder from Ncsoft the price is $59.99 for Collector edition. The bad thing about it, you probably wont get the CD, or 6.5"-tall, hand-painted figurine of Aiva, a winged Asmodian Daeva, Official Aion soundtrack CD and poster. But Ebgames sell the collector edition for $69.99 + Tax + Shipping( you might choose the 1day fast shipping cost $9.99). The final price come out to $83. So mostly if the game was release in September 22, and you probably wont receive the game until Sept 25.

    * In-game items exclusive to the Collector's Edition.

    * A serial code for account creation.

    * Access to the full Aion® game via downloadable client.

    * 30 days of game time. Activation with a valid credit card or game time card is required.

    * Prepurchase bonus: Prepurchase now and get an additional 7 days of game time, access to the beta events, additional in-game items and more. For details, see below.

    * Seven (7) Days of Additional Free Game Time: One extra week of free game time

    * Aion® Beta Events: Receive a code to access all of the Aion® beta events. Play in an Aion® beta event, and you will have a chance to win* a killer Alienware gaming notebook or other great prizes, including ATI Radeon™ HD video cards and subscriptions to Aion®.

    * Head Start on the Live Game: Get an early head start to the live game, before the game goes on sale.

    * Preselection: Access to Aion® server and character pre-selection!

    * Prepurchase-Only In-Game Items:

o Black Cloud Hat (gives boosts to HP, MP, magical resistance, and evasion)

o Lodas' Amulet (gives a +20% experience boost)

    o Ancient Ring of Wind

To sum it up, if you preorder in store now.  You'd get a card with a code on it.

This code let you get access to all beta events (each event last only a few days) there are a total of 6 officially announced beta, and so far the first 2 are already over, next one starts on July 5th.

See official site news (older) if you want to know the date of each beta event.

Or you can try to get a free beta key at certain times on certain web sites between beta events (which is announced on official site), problem is of course, if you can get one before its all gone.  (Which is likely to be within 1 hour, if not minutes...) Vulture behavior might be needed  to get a free one on websites, so start circling when it's time.

Edit:  BTW some of the bonus on the above post is for collector's edition and not from pre-ordering, in case you misunderstood.  (Seems to happen alot when ppl only gaze through forums instead of reading somtimes so making sure)  Best if read from official site about it or the store that sells it, to distinguish which are from pre-order and which are collector's edition bonus, of course if you pre-order collector's edition you get all bonus anyways,  if that is the case just ignore this whole edit part.

I bought the download version on NCsoft site and yes,you get the beta key the second you buy it,but you won't get the box. If you don't care about the box this is the best option since you don't pay shipping and you get a free 7 days of game time.

I've preordered MMOs from gamestop a couple of times.  They actually ship the title the day before it's released.  So if you do the one day shipping, you usually get the game on release day.

Also most of us that have preordered will already have the client downloaded and installed.  All it takes is to apply the CD key and you're good to go.  I've done a headstart program before as well...  Somehow your beta key allows you to be in the head start and then on opening day you need to apply an acutal key or something like that.  It's just that your avatar from the last two days won't be wiped.
