I know we are all looking forward to seeing AION go live, but one thing has me pretty worried. The expansion.
If its true that after 1.3 the next major content update is going to be an expansion then thats going to cause big problems in the west. Say for example the game goes live with version 1.2 and then 1.3 goes live 2 months later. The next update would be a paid expansion.
Wouldn't they have trouble trying to tell people to pay for an expansion less than 6 months after release?

This is already being discussed elsewhere.
Keep in mind that content takes time to localize, and no word of expansion has come from Korea yet, just that 1.3 was the final update before one. That means, they're working on it, which means it will be time before it's released, and thus time before it's translated for us.
Aion will launch for us in the most current version, but don't expect to see an expansion for our side of the world for months.

The problem is no matter how many places it's being discussed, no one has a firm answer. Your best bet is to assume it will launch with 1.0 until we hear otherwise.
you assume that the expansion will cost money..lineage 2 has about 8 expansions and they have all been free.
I think people are more than willing to pay for the content, as long as its legitimate content that is...But NCSoft has a good track record with other titles of solid expansions.
Also if you want a parallel, look at the uproar over the speed of left for dead 2...and personally waiting almost 6 months for raid content in WoW lead me to quitting, so theres always mixed preferences.
In the end, it'll come when they localize it as they've stated above, when is up in the air...as depends on the issues that come along with it If only it was easy to always pinpoint dev time...oh what a utopia we would be in...
Beta is currently about stability and checking the English adaptations, not yet the updates themselves.
I'm pretty sure Ayase posted on beta boards that we will NOT go retail with 1.0 but no mention on what version will be. I can't prove this, so let the speculation continue, we will probably know more as the game gets closer to the release date.
About expansions, I doubt they will charge for them, but it is not impossible they do so.
Yes I'm under the same impression as EricDanie, the game should launch at 1.3
Not really worried about an expansion honestly, though hopefully it's got housing ^^

1.3v is still only on the Korean test server and is not on the Korean retail servers, They will get 1.3v in the summer (around AUG).
To expect NA/EU to launch in SEPT with 1.3v is unrealalistic. I would be happy with 1.1v or even better with 1.2v.
1.3v is mostly High end content and lets face it, most of us noobs will not reach that in awhile

Oh ok that's fine. I'm not hanging my hopes and dreams on 1.3 As long as the game is localised and works well, don't really care when the updates come out, well as long as they come out in a timely manner and all.

I agree much Even if they have to hire more translation coders this needs to happen in a timely manner.

agreed with last 2 above posters ^^. so long as what launches at launch time is in fact stable and enjoyable to play right off the bat, ill go with that. ill be busy re igniting my alt fiend habits so that even if new patches arent rdy right away ill be to busy to notice

Nope, Ayase has said multiple times it will not launch at 1.0. He's never said what it WILL launch at, but he said it will most definately NOT be 1.0. Which is why so many people laugh when they call these weekend events Betas, since the preview weekends are using 1.0.
Not much point in testing an old version is there.
I'm about 90% sure it will be 1.2 at launch. /wink /wink.

I don't speak on assumption unless specified, I've long since learned how much that can discredit you ^_^

They will be launching the game with a later version than 1.0 but not sure if it will be 1.2 ,i guess. Any official info about this?
From what I know, it could be an advanced 1.1 at release, advanced meaning the post 1.1 small patches would be included, but these are still assumptions.
One thing for sure, it won't be 1.0
