Top Ten MMORPGs as of 6/25/09 on MMORPG.com

These are the top ten MMORPGs on MMORPG.com as 6/25/09. This does not include beta testing and developement.

1.Lord Of The Rings Online

2.Atlantica Online

3.Aion (Only released in China/Korea)

4.Warhammer Online

5.EVE Online

6.The Chronicles Of Spellborn

7.Ever Quest 2

8.Vanguard: Saga Of Heros

9.Guild Wars

10.Dark Age Of Camelot

These are not my opinions, I would have added WoW in EVEs spot and put EVE down farther. Vanguard wouldnt be on there in my opinion. These are MMORPG.com ratings.

So what are your opinions about this ranking? And what are your top ten MMORPGs?

     Top based on what?

    popularity?

I think most players take MMORPG ratings (as it relates to the quality of a game) with a grain of salt

Just as they do Xfire numbers for estimating a game's population

The list is meaningless, just like Top Voted games or MMORPG.com's reviews / previews and whatever else is on the front page. The forums is all that counts for me.

We already know that the rating system on MMORPG is bogus, which in itself makes your list bogus.  Not sure what point you are trying to make but I think most of the posters on this site will completely disagree with the list order and the ommission of most of the better games.

I approach ranking list with a healthy grain of salt, but I think that I can also say that I view opinions posted in the forums with the same grain of salt.  I often judge a game on its own merits, try to get into betas and free trials to see if I like them.  My hypothesis is that most players who really enjoy a game probably aren't spending too much time on forums talking about a game they could be playing.

edit:  Oz while I agree with you I think you are a little harsh on the OP who is just looking to start a thread to get others input on what their top ten would be...

Yea AO is definately not 2 anymore, that game took a nosedive real fast.

The best part is: Those posters won't go anywhere else that better fits their personal views.

This list does fit my own personal views. EVE online, Vanguard, LotRO, and Warhammer were all games I enjoyed.

They are not in any particular order for me, but they are in my top ten.

No need to be harsh people, I was just charting what is on the site. These are not my opinions. I think some of those shouldnt be up there and some should be up there. Im just trying to see what your opinions are on your top ten MMORPGs.

mmorpg list is one of worst lists you can find..  lotro is always first, and 20 f2p games we never heard, usually beats every top mmorpg..

Both sides are either putting tomuch faith in these rating or to little.  Mostly 'hard core' gamers and internet junkies do the ratings of the games, or someone who has either an axe to grind or leg to hump.  You can't call the list trash, because, its not.  You also can't call it completely accurate, because, its obviously not.

    Major or Current Characters
AC - The Brute lvl 85 macer -HG (retired)
SWG - Lihone Su'alkn Master Ranger/ MCH - Flurry (Retired)

The list means nothing no matter how you look at it. Its not like people who frequent mmorpg.com are... normal players in any sense of the word. Hell they aren't even normal forum posters. They can pretend to be above all the trashing flaming and fighting one day and be the worst troll ever the next and back again. The fact that this list is associated with MMORPG.com makes it completely bogus from the get go. Even if by some random occurance a  game gets put where it belongs its for damn sure not because some objective minded person or persons came along and voted it that way.

Darkfall should be number 1.  Followed by Shadowbane in second place.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

  • Carl132pCarl132p Member UncommonPosts: 538

personally hello kitty adventure island should be on top tied with darkfall

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

I don't see how Atlantica could get to second place, it is nowhere near as good as any P2P game.

But these scores are not anything to really trust, it can well be that someone at another forum linked to it and asked the fans to vote 10s for a certain game.

Of course I rarely trust review scores since they tend to be very generous with the score, no MMO ever is worth a 10/10 and still I seen a lot of games getting that in different places. I read the text however, but the score is usually optimistic.
