Hello MO - Goodby DF

Cik_AsalinCik_Asalin Member Posts: 3,033

Just popping my head in here. I have been following this game for some time now.  And am so releived to hear how the game is progressing, including being openly made aware of the shortfalls.

But I am hoping that the breadth and depth of game-play, as I've been following is accurate, as a player-centric and player-driven ecosystem, combined with an organziation and development team that more openly communicates and embraces their player-base without a whole host of misleadings.

I think MO is going to fill a niche, and I think it will do it well.  It will never compete with WoW, and I think they realize that.  There are a lot of features that are just going to turn off many players.  It is these same features that will attract what will become a very dedicate userbase.

whoah.  I never mentioned WoW and left that game 3 years ago after jumping off the pve-centric static computer-controlled and predictable whack-a-mole treadmill.

Edit: Im looking forward to another opportunity, as I did with DF prior to the NA customer fleecing, to get engaged in a player-centric ecosystem where, Im sure it will have it's own redundencies, but where the player-base influences my game-play and the environmental immersion more-so than game-coded mobiles.

I have some hopes for this game and im glad that the developers have been honest about the state which they plan on releasing and developing it, as long as they stay true to their original design and implement solid features over time I dont really mind, my only worry is that the game might end up being a massive gank fest everywhere rather than developing into a rich game in every aspect other than just pvp (crafting, trading etc...).

MO does have consequences for mindless killing.  If you look at how many guilds there are that are ANTI-PK I think order will be kept through player and community made law.

I too am going to join in Mortal Online. Our guild intends to make a place in that world and be a part of it as the game progresses and improves.

I'm expecting it to do well and fit the desires of the developers and it's intended playerbase.

Oh, and if you are looking for a close-knit family of gamers that is focused on game enjoyment, check out Covenant of the Phoenix -http://www.covenantofthephoenix.com/

    See you in MO!

I haven't followed this game as closely as most but it does look amazing. I do say LOOK though. I know we wont know much more until beta and then the final release. I started checking out the website and reading the faq's and forums and whatnot. Kinda excited about the game. Something a little new and hopefully does a lot better than darkfall. Not to mention the eBay auction for charity. Those devs know how to do it :) Good luck to them. I wouldn't mind getting into beta to check it out either :)

Tbh, with MO having stuff like unreal engine and if Starvault is going to deliver what they promised... MO might compete with WoW very well :)

I really really doubt that.   The features that MO promises are things that most people just don't want or are not ready for.   One thing I do think is many are tired of WOW and really are looking for something different.     Hopefully MO can steal away a sizable chunk of those who want something different and dont want to be in space.    If they can achieve 100,000 subs in the first year I believe they will be a wonderful success.     If not,  then whatever it takes to pay the bills I guess.

We will know which is better in a few weeks, when MO opens up its beta to pre-order players.

It also has a notoriety system, where you become a murderor if you kill/gank too many so called innocents. So I don't think the game will be as free PvP as people think it will be.

Which is excellent, if by free pvp you mean you can kill anyone you want then yes it will be as free as people think, but there is consequence you will be a murderer which is what I am hoping for, since its a game and there are no such things as moral values this is will be the replacement, killing everyone on sight just because you can brings nothing interesting to a game where there are other aspects other than just mindless killing like I mentioned on my original post if i want mindless killing ill play some deathmatch game where I just shoot at everything that moves.

also dont forget that if you become a murderer (killing more than 5 people) your main stats go down by 1. so you have to grind to increase them again. More explanation on MO forums, as its not that simple of a system.

I am not going to say if this system will be good or bad until I see it in action but I do know that Lineage 2 notoriety system effectively made it so that PvP was really only viable between warring clans, where there was no penalty. Any other PvP was severly limited, not in the sense that you could not do it, you could, but rather that the penalties were huge.

If the penalties are equally huge for non-warring PvP then this game could suffer the same consequence. Virtually removing FFA PvP for any practical purposes.

Well having played L2 for nearly 4 years since the start, and having been part of a server scale alliance war that lasted for 2 years from release to C5 I can tell you with the most confidence that what you are saying is not correct, my clan only once declared war on anyone, warring other clans has become popular lately but not at the start no one would war another clan wars were just declared by word of mouth, becoming a red was absolutely not a problem, anytime you spotted an enemy you would just attack, if he didnt fight back well.. too bad you went red, bear in mind also, PKs were alot harsher at the start, you would drop items from any pks rather than the 5pks now and leveling was much harder.

So no i do not believe having a system similar to L2 will hinder FFA pvp, but even then I dont think from what I have read ( I can only speculate ofc from the information given, i might be wrong)it does not seem that the penalty will be harsher, you get a stat loss but that wont really stop you from killing, im basing this on the information given by the devs about how much skills will actually influence the outcome of a battle.
