Could Someone Clarify For Me?

AutarchAutarch Member Posts: 86

I really, really don't get this, and it's buzzing about like an extremely annoying fly. If Aventurine has seperate publishers, and players have to buy seperate accounts to play on different servers, how are they going to manage a character transfer after three months? That just sounds like an impossibility / lie to me, as you apparently have to get a new account or the publisher will get annoyed?

I don't know if that paragraph'll make sense, so let me lay it out.

People who want to start on the American server have to buy a new account, in order to start playing, because Aventurine's American publisher will dispute any rights to Darkfall in America if anyone else tries to do so, correct? That's what I'm getting from this, anyway.

But, after three months, all rights to Darkfall in America are off, and players can transfer over because of this? I don't get it, surely the rights would prevent transfer, as you'd HAVE TO BUY AN ACCOUNT ANYWAY. Would you guys consider the idea that what Aventurine really meant was, "You have to buy an account and then pay to transfer"? I don't believe it states anywhere in their news articles that this is not the case, and since it seems they are the masters of ambiguity and spin ( and, possibly, twisted business practices, although your mileage may vary ) that they would do this.

Your OP is completely right in its theory.

However there is nothing to clarify because AV exactly aims for that. They give you no straight facts besides some hints so it leaves the whole matter to your "interpretation". So it is all in general just speculation but still an obvious money grab.

They can later state that "we never said that" (what they would never do because they have like 10 dozen shills doing the dirty work for them) and blame your "interpretation".

All that while having a hand in your pockets because you waited for uuh "something that is going to happen someday but we dont know exactly how it is going to work out."

Well... easy, probably AV negotiated the contract with the new publisher with that condition. I suppose that "free", so AV don't have to pay to let people exchange accounts. But we don't know. Maybe AV has to pay to the new publisher XX$ for every player that change from EU to USA (I doubt it).

Anyway most "hardcore" players will buy the game again, to be in the map from day one.
For the non hardcore... I think could be a good idea to stay in the EU server, or wait the 3 months.

TBH I assume thats why there is going to be a transfer fee.

My bet is that they got the deal with the publisher that says that they can let EU players transfer to the US server for a one off transfer fee. I don't see why so many people are so upset about this. If you want to transfer server in pretty much any game you need to pay a transfer fee.

In many many games, WOW, WAR , AOC  and others make you buy the client again between EU and US. I can only assume that because US players aren't used to this, they are more upset. EU players are just used to American companies screwing them over.

All I can say is, if I was planning on playing DF for the first time, and had been waiting for the launch of the NA server, the last thing I would want to see is transferred characters from the EU box.  That would be enough to drive me off.

In fact, I wouldn't really want to see people on the server who had ever played DF before, preferring they be more equal to my level of noobishness.  The 50.00 new account fee will discourage many EU vets from coming over (perhaps a little too well) which would also make me happy.

But since I decided to forgo this game for another, it really doesn't matter much to me anyways.

That's the current situation. Does that make it clear?

This is exactly why I am playing other games for 3 months to wait and see what happens.  I'm not jumping on-board with the same half-baked game I had promise for and give them another $50.

    I'll wait and see.
