Ryzom: I'm gonna have a go

Cik_AsalinCik_Asalin Member Posts: 3,033

I need a break from the mainstream, overly hyped and under-delivered so-called mainstream games.  I've jumped in here for the 3 trial and already, there's this feeling of comfort :)  Comfort in a fresh game where your not spoon-fed character development or purpose.

Im playing at video 1440x900 or something thereabouts, and the graphics are just fine.

Cool, please keep us informed on what you think that are the high and low points for the game!

    ( I'm considering a move there for my wife and I    )

I was rolling along last night, having no issues with the game-play and enjoying the newness.  I just logged out after having been in for 10 minutes, dieing 2x in the vicinity of the outskirts of the starter are, asking for a res to forgo the death penalty and realized....ehhh....no population, no fun.  Maybe I'll fire it up again tomorrow.

  • I think you should give the game an honest chance - there are always some players around when i play - but after 10 minutes you really do not need a res, maybe after level 30 - 40 but not after 10 minutes, just kill 2 yubos in 3 seconds and you have it back.

Did a trial of this game a year back. Trial was unlimited but locked to the starter island. Got hooked on the complicity of the crafting part. Seemed to me like the old crafting in SWG preCU.

The game it self had at the time alot of life in the community. Even locked to the starter island there was allways some activity going on.

Graphics back then was just fine. Like a mix of GW and Everquest.

The new trial is open to the full game but only for a limited time. Could not install the download for some reason tho.

It is recommended to anyone tired of the sandbox wow has become and anyone who wants to try something different.

    Wumi - SWG - Bloodfin - Cancelled
    Wumi - WoW - Eu-Kazzak - Cancelled
    Bulldozer - Aion - Eu-Kahrun - Cancelled
    Wumi - Rift - EU-Riptalon - Cancelled

I died a few times on Silas, I asked for a rez once, but no one was close enough for the time left. It taught me to be more careful of running in recklessly, tactics and strategies became more important, which made the game more interesting to me :D

I hadn't died at all until last night when I died twice within 20 minutes. I was beating up on some ragus and got ambushed by 6 at once. I wasn't paying attention to their migration pattern, and I paid for it.

And today I died twice within 15 minutes after being mauled by a couple of gingos. I charged in, started nuking away and they resisted everything I threw at them! They run faster than I do, so I couldn't run away.

I'm definitely more wary now in new situations and places. I like the danger in the game. Makes it more challenging.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

hahaha that reminds me of myself there a week ago :)

meanwhile i have created me a new acid nuke with longer range - can kill gingos with it before they can reach me :)

You know what the problem is?

If everyone keeps loggin off after 10 minutes, becasue he/she died 2 times and found no-one to rezz, there´ll never be someone to rezz you.

Please people, take an example of the fine folks up there and don´t be frustrated too easily.

Just give it a go and remember, it´s not like any other game you might have played before.

Ryzom dares to be different, do you dare to adapt?

LOL When I died, I just took the DP and didn't ask for a res, because I knew no one would have it on the newbie island.

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

Tweening is my trademark saying for "in between games and I can't commit to one so I will try them all until I find THE ONE"

Tweening makes it much more simple. It can be used for girlfriends, jobs etc.

I'm in, Im playing as Xunxue and just getting started, I'll be on tonite =)

Res is just heal (someone else, not self), if they dont res at the first casting, rinse and repeat until they do :)

I sadly only have two days left on my trial. I didn't really get to play much at all during it. Been so busy with other things. I'm thinking I may delete my characters for the name, open up another trial and continue giving it a shot. :P

Or maybe I'll just front $10 for the month... :P Don't have a job, $10 is a big deal. :(

Sometimes I answer rez calls from the other end of Atys. I just port over and try to get to the corpse in time, for the heck or the challenge of it. Of course, if the person is on Silan, I can't do squat. Once you cross over, you can't go back. It's a one way trip. A DP on Silan is nothing compared to a master's DP, because your DP is proportional to your highest level. Yet I take the chance of getting a DP to rez other people just because it gives me something to do when I'm bored and slacking off.

Always try to rez other people when you're in the same region as them, because one day, you'll be the one in need of a rez and you'll be happy that someone comes and tries to get you. Show the example to others. I can assure you that it's not in vain. And... extreme rez runs can be a lot of fun. They're thrilling ! ... or I'm just crazy.

I really like this game. The thing is that there is a pretty steep learning curve if you are used to WoW, WAR, Everquest, etc. Once you get the hang of it, the game rocks

What invasion? I haven't been able to play Ryzom for the last few days, so I'm still stuck on the island. Is there some event going on?

    Yes it is.

The Kitin have once again invaded the security of the New Lands and are swarming over the landscape in great numbers.

Sadly some new players allready canceled their subscriptions because of this, as they feel they´ve been betrayed and set up, into a world where they´re not able to do anything.

Of course these beasts are pretty hard to kill and they attack in teams of three each. But if you´re carefull pulling, you get only these three and not more.

Of course it is hard for a new character to survive on his/her own against this massive onslaught of monsters, but so it is for the higher characters. Only advantage they have is, that they can travel a bit more before being overwhelmed.

Teaming up with older and newer players is the key now. Each can do something that helps!

    Nobody is useless!

I´ve teamed up with three newbes and three vets two days ago and we had one hell of a time killing lvl 200 MOBs without any incident. Sometimes we barely survived, but thats what I call exitement.

Some people sadly seem to think that an event that will last only a few days, does ruin "their" gameplay so much that they seem forced to abandon ship. :(

I find this very, very sad and don´t quite understand it. Only theory I have is as follows:

I think it all comes down to most other games having established the feeling of being able to master everything on ones own,

or at least with a small group of friends in a pre-established environment, that is 100% predictable and follows a certain prepared path.

Now if something unpredictable, unexpected and out of the ordinary happens to those who are used to following a pre-established route,

that millions of players before them did already travel successfully, they´re naturally going to react with intense frustration.

Just think of what would happen in WoW, if the Silithides were to suddenly overrun Orgrimar and Stromwind?

It would be a never before heard of outcry of rage!

    But! And here´s the point:

Ryzom IS exactly about such unexpected things happening.

It is NOT about following a beaten path and just going from level to level to max. in a few weeks.

It´s about survival of Hominkind. It´s about how people like the Homins deal with out of the ordinary Events.

Not them living their regular lives and getting just on with the regular routine.

We have that for most of the time, of course.

But ever so often something happens to break that routine.

And players have to band together, be they established Veterans, or Newbes, to best these circumstances.

All I can do is invite those who feel like they´re not up to the challenge alone, to get together with other players, preferably higher ones and

beat the living shit out of these Bugs! ;) :D

So, are you ready for a challenge that is playing Ryzom?

    I truly hope so! :)

    Acridiel

P.S.: And this is the exact reason why I´m a fanboy of this game :p

I am fairly new to Ryzom and have to say it is one of the most elegant games I have played up to now.  It is complicated and intuitive at the same time, and has a way of immersing the player with the environment ... from harvesting to watching the wildlife migrate to new areas while curiously inspecting you the player to see what your intentions are.

However, as much as I love this game .... I have stopped playing until the invasion is over.  Maybe Im just to old (rl) and to young (level) to get into this kitin explosion thing, for the past few days each time I log into game all there is to do is something involving killing kitins.  Ive had enough of it, so will patiently wait for the completion of the event to get back to "my" Ryzom.

Haha, I can't exactly blame you there. It's the entire reason I've gone away two days, only to return today to continue my leveling on Silan. I didn't want to run out of Silan missions and such and get bored. So I've kind of taken some time to do everything... Hopefully the invasion is over sooner then later so I can go to the mainland.

    Allright, here they go!

We´re going to kick the beasts scrawny butts!

    atys.ryzom.com/boards/19/topics/323

    Quote:

Homins, I know that many are busy supplying our newly built camps to fight the kitin. And the better supplied the camps are the less Kitin are found in the region.

This is, however, not enough. We need to strike back, all together, all at the same time! Zorai, Fyros, Matis, Tryker, Kamist, Karavaneer, neutral... all united against the Kitin threat!

If you're like me and you have seen these camps, you can doubt their effectiveness, without questioning the strategies of our leaders, I think we should not put all eggs in the same basket.

So far, we have had a few isolated initiatives taking place. killing one group of kitin, two, and a few hours later a new swarm appears.

I want to deal the Kitin of the Depths, infesting the beautiful bark of Atys, a blow so terrible they will never be able to recover! They have come as close as 100m from the gates of Zora and I'm sure other cities and other regions are under threat as well: this is unacceptable!

I therefore propose that in each country in each region armies gather, armed to the teeth, and ready to strike the Kitin simultaneously, so they have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

On the 4th day of Folialy, in the 3rd Atys Cycle of Jena Year 2546 [*], we will strike!

This attack must transcend religions and nationalities. I pray for everyone to gather in one of these four places: the Agora in Pyr, the Yrkanis stage in Yrkanis, Frogmore Place in Fairhaven, or the Grand Plaza in Zora.

It will be hard to coordinate troops all over Atys, in every region. But i call upon every Homin, from any rank or standing, to stand up and fight this Kitin Scourge! If we strike together, there is a good chance we can scare them into being more prudent. In records of previous Kitin attacks we have also seen that a strong counter attack can push them back for a while.

    End-Quote

So, who´ll be there to take revenge!?

    I´ll be there!
