So where is the epicness? Where is the Tactics? Where is the strategy?
Looks like a bunch of noobs running around with their heads chopped off. I'm tired if being fooled into watching these small group combat videos. Show me a true epic combat video with more than 40 people, with good strategy and tactics. None of the zerg crap.

im tired of all these idiots saying that DF doesn't need strategy and tactics. do you want me to tell you exactly what my group leaders say in vent? there are so many examples that you should not even have the right to troll DF if you are making stuff up on the spot.
i support anti dfers who understand what they talk about but people who dont and just insult the game are clueless
show me a video of a MMO fight/battle that looks like there is strategy involved. videos dont show everything.

Funny how I can watch a video from WWII online and see the tactics being run. Or a video from almost any fps and see the strategy.
It does not matter what your group leaders says. What matters is if the orders are being followed. If they are being followed I would suggest finding a new group leader. Running around in videos like the one in this thread, shows that there is no tactics involved.
In a game like this formations would work wonderfully. Learn what was done in the old Roman days.
Don't assume that just because some of us don't play the game, we're clueless. The idiots are the ones that support zerg battles with no tactics and/or strategy.

Care to explain what strategy was involved in that video? The only strategy I can think of is when alliance attacks other alliance on multiple fronts, assigning each attack wing specific targets and objectives. Other then that, DF does not seem to have much strategy because the physics of the word. If keeps realy did have operational walls with doors, then perhaps there would be strategy involved. I will give you an example with Planetside.
Most bases (keeps) in Planetside have multiple entrances, some 3, some 4-5. If you use good tactics, you can block those entrances and prevent enemy from capturing it. This tactic can be part of a greater strategy, where you slow down the enemy, but allow friendly troops (or even the other enemy) to attack other bases or the siege force itself.
As far as I know, DF keeps are a joke. You can walk through/under/around/over the walls, there are no "choke" points where you can stop the attack, so the keep itself has little strategic value. So it boils down to tactics, the better your tactics are, the more chance you have to survive, assuming your character skills are of equal level.
Please let me know if I am mistaken.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
LOL! This game still looks terrible. The mounts pogosticking straight up in the air when they jump is hilarious. And seeing 100 people running circles around each other until someone dies isn't exacly epic pvp.
wow. what a bunch of nerds analysing the tactics of the battle... it's a game. made for fun. you know what "fun" means right?
Fun is multi-dimensional, and depends on the mind. Chess is fun for the proper mind, who likes to think hard and risk. Sports is fun for those who want to sweat some and exert, exercise. DF is fun for those who want to ... err, ... I don't know. Maybe running around aimlessly. Talking about siege tactics? Talking about patrol in borders, coordinating attack groups, zerg, keeps that works, where you need to attack a door, scale walls, fight thru court yards? DAoC has it years ago, when the PC was just 256K RAM based. Now I sit on 4GB RAM and I have to play DF? You want bigger and more elaborated tactical/strategic fights? Planetside has the tactics, EvE has everything from empire to economics to production to patrols to ambush. On a truely massive scale. DF has 20 players running around in shitty armor against another 20. Any offhour WG in WoW will have 40vs40 fully geared players fighting with siege engines that works. AND WoW is not a PVP game, mind you. WoW is universally known to be an easy game demanding much less dedication. What this amounts to, is simple. Other games deliver. Delivers, as in useful tactics and strategic, appropriate, and adds to the element of fun, not just one dimensional run around aimlessly, hoping a random swing hits someone who is not on your side. DF? oh well. Yes tactics and strategy matters. It is part of the fun for many games, with the notable exception of DF.
... commenting on a video that was posted. If that video is no greater or different than the last 20 we've seen, why should a filll the OP's head with placation. These Players obviously don't understand their videos are trvial or quite frankly embarrasing for them. They don't have enough insigh or hindsight to understand how incredibly Fisher Price Darkfall's game play actually is. Each one of these videos is like when a child is showing his father something trivial, as if the kids himself was the first to have ever discovered or seen it. Yet, when he gets older he will understand it was just new to him and that "other" games are far superior. But, at the time the dad just sighes and humors him..
Today has been posted a EVE video of 20 titans doing DD. Withouth a understanding of the mechanics of EVE, all you see in the video is a bunch of icons, and a few seconds of the whole screen going white.
I suppose battles like this one are on the same level. Probably there are bigger or more spectacular battles in any WAR scenario, but are meaninless battles. The epicness of a battle like the one on this video come from understanding what is intake here.
It doesnt look too bad, the animations are bad though.
I think its a bunch of combat scenes put together. There seems no tactic, the targeting skills of the guy recording the video are nice. Maybe some added descriptions in the clip would help.

Actually many people consider EVE combat system weak for this very reason.
Epicness of a battle comes from the epicness of the battle itself, period. It's something that you can upload the vid on youtube and someone who watches the video wants to join the game. I don't see any good reason why we can't have a WAR/WoW - like spectacular battle with DF / EvE - like consequences.

Bingo. If you don't understand the game of course you're not going to be ale to comprehend the strategy/tactics involved.
What kind of pathetic losers sit around on this forum trolling a game that they claim they don't like or don't play? Seriously, that's freaking sad.

very sad and very pathetic losers, just like me for example. i tried df and wasn't hardcore enough, i was minding my own business farming mobs and got pked again and again by some leet e-thugs... sincethen i dedicate all my free time to troll this board and work on my double flying elbow move because i am a too carebear to play and also have no pvp skills.
true story, but don't worry - as soon as there is a new wow-clone themepark mmo with fancy gfx and glowing question marks above the npcs heads i will be gone.
jedi mind - heavenly divine, steadily shine in '99!
tbh, it looked pretty fun. but i still stand by my DF must die policy (i dont like Tasos/AV..)
MMOs currently playing: - About to play: Lord of the Rings Online Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
It looks like a bit of action packed fun, I would like to play it, and the strategy and tactics might have to do with a grander scale then just the small combats here and there. It does seem like people are running around like headless chickens though....

all i saw in the video were players running round like a chicken with its head off. Thats not a tactic btw.

I honestly think AV did a very bad job with the combat system in DF.
They just delivered a Quake-like combat system, appearently unaware that such a combat system is totally inadequate in a medieval fantasy setting.
The combat system is so one-dimensional and flat out stupid that I couldn't force me to play the game for longer than 2 days.
