I moved over...Kinda

I started playin everquest 2 because I heard it was a mature friendly game.  Please keep in mind i came over from Lineage 2.  Which you may have heard is not the nicest nor the most mature game out there.

So I approached the agme with an open mind, trying to get the hang of it.  First thing I found out, your not gonna solo long.  I figured this out while still in my tutorial on the island.  So I attempt to find a group, to finish a rather challenging quest.  Hmm none today, I will try tomorrow.  Again, not till the very end of my session, then finally one group lets me tag along with them...after of course they make it known they are doing me  ahuge favor.  Ok, thanks...?

Fast forward to the mainland.  Still hard to group, have had run ins with several elite EQ1 players, no big deal, there are morons everywhere.  Still trying to maintain a positive attitude, but it gets hard.

Just the other day iam in a (rare) group.  And one other guy send me a /t "hey man wannna group"?

"sorry already grouped"

"Ditch those losers and come with us"

"dude, seriously, there are about 900 predators on this server, I am sure if you can find one if you really need one"

"Whatever nub have fun dieing loser".

It got alot worse on both sides form there.

Finally to my point:  This game is chok full of arseholes.  I have 2 freinds that play this game as well, and they tend to agree with me.  I am not the best judge, and I openly admit this, I get hostile at the drop of a hat, but one of my friends is a good person, very nice, impossible to anger.  Or so I thought, this (the EQ2) community has done it, time and again.

Is this how carbears get back at dood gamers?  I want to understand, yeah I nejoy PvP, but I play this game to NOT listen to crap form 11 year olds, and 40 year old basement dwellers.  I expected this to be a nice mature community, and some are, believing me I am not generalizing.  However my experience has been pretty bad to date.

I know some of it stems from me, I do not suffer fools gladly, but I never ever iniate poo flinging.  And it has been started on me at least once a session.

Any way, any ideas?  I am going back to L2 for about a week, to hang with some nice people.  EQ2 is just way to hastile.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

Take what you posted and apply to every other mmorpg out there.  Everquest II is not different as far as communnity.

I have been playing since release and have come across some players that were mean, abnoxious, and just plain rude.

I have mostly seen good, helpful, friendly players.  I guess I just know who to stay away from, but I know there are idiots playing EQII, you just have to steer clear of them.

Join a guild, everything will be easie and moer fun.  If you don't join one, get friendly with one, they will most likely accept your help and will help you in return.

Create your own groups.  I do this most of the time, I use the search tool and the first thing I do is look to players with names that aren't "Imagonnagetyou", "Fuzzyfeeties", "Porkchop", etc.  I send tells politely asking players if they would be interested in joining and I mostly get polite answers in return.

In today's mmorpgs, soloing is becoming less.  I used to like to solo, in the original EQ I was a Necro and a Ranger, and I did well all alone.  Now it is different, but not necessarily worse.  These are social games, meant to bring players together.  I have come to understand that more now and I try to make as many friends as possible.  It has led to a gret experience so far in Everquest II.

Sorry you had those experiences. I never encountered anything like that in EQ2 though. So I am sorry that you had to go through it.

I just wanted to through something in to help you:

There places where can lvl solo all the way up to lvl 20. It's possible because I did it (for the exception of lvl 19) and my class was a Crusader (which is the most populus on any server). You line 10 people up...6 of them are Crusaders.

Also, (this will not apply to you since you are higher level). But for everyone else...don't run to the Commanlands right when you get off the boat from the isle of refuge. You'll be stuck fighting only armadillos and emerald beattles. Rather, do all the newbie quests. After 3 to 4 hours of newbie quests, you'll go from lvl 6 to lvl 10, have around 30 silver, some nice weapons, and an assortment of armor free.

If you go right from the boat to the commonlands you're only hurting yourself.

    About Grouping:

I would suggest you to find a good guild and group with them:

    A. They wont disband you after 20 minutes of adventuring
    B. 9 times outta 10 you can get a guild group going in less then 30 minutes
    C. They'll be there to help you with the harder quests (Armor Quests, etc)

Also, I really have only come across 2 people in Commonlands that were ignorant but for the most part everyone has been very mature. Believe it or not....mature than many mmorpgs Ive played. It may be the server your on. If it is...try the Befallen server. I havent seen an immature community or guild there yet.

    Hope that helps

P.S. What challenging quest are you talking about on the Island? You can beat the Orc with even 3 mages. Never had a problem getting a group for the Orc quest either...lol, even at 3 am. There's always people on the Island of Refuge.

Everyone's got a few people on their ignore list that I know. Yeah, there are some losers out there to be sure. In fact I've left a group just to get away from one.

I don't understand how you can come from L2 and somehow think this is worse. I haven't played on every EQ2 server, but I played L2 for about 3 months and I came across more jerks there in the first 2 days than I have in 4 weeks of EQ2. Same for WoW.

I don't get how you have trouble grouping, either. You can do the Orc quest on the Isle of Refuge with 3 people no problem, you don't even need a healer. Maybe you're overestimating what is needed for a "group". I have taken 3 characters through Isle of Refuge, and it never took me more than 10 minutes to grab 2 peopel willing to help out. Usually there are similar ppl around lvl 6 hunting skeles like 20 ft from there anyway. Ask a couple of them to help out.

If you anger easily, you're going to get just as frustrated in most MMOs I would think. Except SWG maybe, where you can run around for 45 minutes and not see another person. Assuming boredom doesn't anger you.

I think you can pretty much right click someone's name on the chat box and choose Add to Ignore List. I've used it several times already, as I have had to do in every game I've played. In just 6 weeks of WoW, I had a monster ignore list. More than 50 people. Right now I'm at about 15 in EQ2 after the same amount of time. As far as L2, after 3 months I considered the entire population of that game on my ignore list. What a lame grief-fest. Nobody is having a good time in that game unless they're stabbing someone else in the back.

The only MMORPG with mostly nice people I've seen is EVE Online and The Saga of Ryzom. Seriously, I've been in EVE now for a few days, and so far I haven't seen one bad person, and EVERYBODY was willing to help me. Its that I refuse to take donations, otherwise I'd have thought people got payed real life money to offer n00bs donations or something. Its ridiculous.

you know what? I have to agree with you there. Ive been playing that game off and on since beta and my wife still plays it. I haven't ran into one "jerk" in EVE yet. Heck, even the pirates who pod's ya are even nice lol.

I really would like to defend WoW but since i haven't played it since beta i don't really know how it is now. But when I played WoW I never met any rude, ignorant or just plain shitty ppl on my server.

That's how it's like I guess, when the gates are wide open, some crap are bound to come through.

Over here on the Oggok server there has been a ton of cool people. Sorry to hear about your experiences, nothing ruins a MMORPG like a shitty community experience.

Well I have to admit, on runnyeye there are a few lame dudes that don't want to group and stuff. But me and my friends have always been extremely helpfull to other players, so I guess youre just having bad luck, cause trust me, there are a lot of friendly and helpfull players out there. image

Oggok does seem pretty cool so far. Maybe you should try some RP servers instead. Not many jerks, there imo...but some will talk funny though:)
