Anyone know why the stall, this is one of the more popular titles around and does no one believe that they could be successful in making this work in the market?

Know that you mention it, a mechwarrior/assault MMO (maybe not based in the same universe lorewise if anyother company picks it up) could be pretty damn awsome.
You know right!?! Ive been sayin this for years. Id be down with customizing both the pilot as a character and the mech as well.
Force of Arms is being developed by an Indie company. Not sure if they will ever make it to release.
It is a mech warrior mmo. You can goggle it and there is a webpage up for it.
Producers clearly don't believe there's a market for simulators these days. What was the last release date for a good budget space flight or mech sim?
I have always liked the Heavy Gear franchise more than MechWarrior though.
Battletech 3025 was out a long while back. Ofcourse EA canned it through restructuring. Since they seem to hold the rights from it you will not see another game until EA decides to do something with it. There are however a few alternate fan projects that are close to being released I believe.
Could be very cool.
Smith and TInker now have the Fasa interactive rights back from Microsoft but I doubt if anything MMO-wise will come from it. A real pity considering both Battletech and Shadowrun would be great IPs for an mmo.

Heck Id be happy with a new Mechwarrior with online play at this point.
My guess would be that most MechWarrior players just want large battles. I've always loved mech games (and to the person asking when the last time one was made there was chrome hounds made for the 360 that was alright) but I wouldn't want a mech game where I have to level my character to unlock certain abilities etc etc.
If it were a mech game that revolved around clans creating bases and researching technologies I would be all for it. That way there isn't leveling involved, just fights and gathering materials from fallen mechs or mines you control.
No.. make it on the lines of an RPG.. that would be soooo cool. You would level, but not standard but per mech class.. general skills like repair, targeting, rapid reload, etc. those would be the 'skill sets' and you would have to level up in each mech class, the higher in that class the better handling and management of heat and resources... that would be awesome. Then with 'universe' set on planet based warping from system to system so you can have faction based fighting.. and resources of different types on differnt planets in your system, so others could come and set up camp in your system and steal and reduce your available resources etc. some sort of setup that resources would determine how long to 'build' a mech or something like that.. and you can sneak into another factions system and setup camp, when they find you they have to deploy mechs to counter the incursion.. that would be system handled and of course the system would setup 'fake incursions' as well to keep the game flowing and economy rolling..
I think it could be great!!
There is a really good mech 3rd person shooter game named Exteel. If you are really into PvP and want to skip the grind of a typical Korean F2P mmorpg just play that. Its basically like an mmorpg except you don't have to wait 8-12 months of boring grinding X number of Y mobs to do the PvP, you do the PvP right off the bat
Exteel was a horrible disapointment. And honestly has nothing to do with what the OP and others are asking for. Just because it is a giant freakin robot doesn't make it a "mech" Exteel had anime style gundam wing wannabes. Compared to the 90ton powerhouses from the MechWarrior series? Yeah...
I'd love to see an MMO revolving around mechs. Mercenary groups viaing for planetary resources and duking it out. The beauty is it isn't just pure mechs. They are center points of battle but there were pilots flying air craft and attack choppers and even hover tanks. Owning and maintaining an actual mech could turn into a player carrier all by itself. Not to mention the level of skill needed to maintain the things.
So much possiblity...
But as I've said before, you can point at nearly any source of literature and rightfully say "that could make such a cool MMO!". MechWarrior/Battletech could also make kickass movies too.
Exteel is garbage compared to MechWarrior.
As for the OP, I would love to see either a MechWarrior or a Starsiege (not Tribes) MMO. Would be interesting if the game was sort of like Planetside
I am still looking for my MW 5 that got cancelled due to the Mech Assault crap that was put out(add hate of consoles here).I would be willing to try it if they did make one as I really enjoyed the MW franchise and easily my favorite simulator game.
A mechwarrior MMO by EA would turn out to be something horrible like Earth and Beyond, when in reality it should be something more like EVE.
As i see it there are two ways a MechWarrior mmo could go:-
1. Along the lines of an action RPG, something like Planet Side, twitched based but have a large degree of upgrades for the mech(s) and some RPG elements for the pilot. Mainly PvP oriented with Clan warfare and capturing territory for example.
2. Eve based, traditional MMORPG, skilled based. All together a slower game than the one above, and deeper.
I would love to see either really.
Last MechWarrior game i enjoyed was MechWarrior 3.
As much as I would like a Mech style of game to play, I believe their just isn't a large enough market to develop it, atleast into a MMO.. However there is always hope that someone might try to attempt a good RPG for the Xbox 360 or PS3..
I think a Mechwarrior MMO simulator would be cool. Could give it the sandbox form of EvE. Except instead of fighting in ships in space you fight on planets in mechs. You could ally yourself with the clans or the inner sphere and choose an allegience to fight under and then find your squad/guild from there.
So from the get go you'll:
1) Create your character avatar
2) Choose to be Free birth (IS) or Clanner (Clan)
3) Choose your allegiance:
Inner Sphere - Fed Suns, FRR, Capellans, Draconis Combine, Lyrans, WoB
Clans - Clan Wolf, Clan Ghost Bear, Clan Jade Falcon, Clan Steel Viper, Clan Coyote
Mercenaries! - Hansens Rough Riders, Eridani Light Horse, Kell Hounds, Grey Death Legion
4) Find a squad/guild
Of coarse you would start off with a light mech, and perform PvE missions on your own or with your squad to get your c-bills rolling. After that you and your guild can claim a planet or an entire star system to call your home or base of operations. You can build structures on your planets that give you benefits. Like a satelite uplink for communications, an armory to store your stolen, salvaged or manufactured weapons. And a mech bay to store your mechs.
Battletech has alot of politics in it so there would need to be a simliar political system as seen in EvE.
A battletech game like this would consume my life.
Well you can thank M$ (microsoft) for stopping mechwarrior production on the PC and porting it over to f*cking xbox and watering it down to a dumbified dumb fest. Those bastards were only concerned about $$$$$$ and didnt care if mechwarrior went down with their plans. And I hope they burn in hell for it.
Now that M$ got their fat lazy asses off the IP and sold it to the development studio behind the MW PC series we might see some good mechwarrior titles come out soon.
