Heh its strange that MxO requires your CC details... well personaly i dont have problem with this, but I am asking why the heck do they need my CC details for beta testing?
I never experienced this ina nay beta I was invited into.. btw i dont know much bout US system.. they say my card wont be charged, but a 10 cent hold will be placed on it.. can some1 tell me how will it work? Like will the 10 cent hold be removed right when i end the beta or ?
Sorry for beeing such a CC n00000b but i better ask and know the answers as to think about the answer myself and come to some misleading opinion.. Can you guys help me on this one?

Ya I just got my invite from Gamergod, went to sign up and then I need a credit card! i dont have a credit card yet... really wish they would have stated that before hand. Ill proably just get a student CC over the holidays.
I dont see why they do this? If you dont have to pay any money why do they need our personal cc info?

I think that this way, they hope only to attract potential customers, people without a cc won't be able to play the game anyway, so why let them play it for free?
Let me assure you guys that I don't like this one bit, but it is understandable from the point of view. (which is $$)
Anyone want a MxO beta account? gamergod didnt say anything about needing a credit card. If they arent charging me money to play, then they dont need my credit card number.
So free beta email from gamergod to anyone who wants it.
Not like I was going to subscribe to a MMO ever again anyways. They suck. Ill stick to FPS for the forseeable future. MMOFPS is a maybe. But not Planetside. That game is played out.
It stinks, I got in MxO by another way butthey needed a cc so I couldnt get in

It's to make sure you are over 18.
You must be over 18 to accept the NDA, the CC acts as an age check.
And, obviously, they will sell your CC info on the black market to fund international terrorism and/or drugs trade.

I have to say that i didn´t liked this pay to play the beta of MxO . The game is in test fase, a lot of bugs will be in the game. I was willing to play in the beta but i don´t want to lose my money in a thing that is uncertain of really working.

Most companies only want 18+ year olds playing their betas, might be partly to do with that. but that doesnt seem to make much sense. Seems more likely they want people qho would pay in the future, not just people who want to play the beta for free
The credit card info is not charged, as is clearly stated more than once during account creation. They use it for signing the NDA, which they are treating like a contract. Only someone that is 18+ can sign a contract, so, you have to use yours, or a friend's, parent's etc. that are over 18, agreeing to the NDA. Its trivial ontheir end, so I really dont understand why they are requiring it, but cest la vie.

let me just state this very clearly for the people who don't bother to read before they post:
THEY DO NOT CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD. It's an age/identity check for teh NDA. That is all. It costs nothing.
MAN, people are paranoid, and will bitch about anything these days.
(yeah, I know other ppl aready said it...but BIG PRINT was apparently needed....hehehe)

rofl... as soon as i saw the hook cc.. i withdrew my beta involvement. I have betad sevral and followed 3. It is some bs they cooked as knowing it is hell to cancel a subscription. Even Necron with its pepperpark ho's allowed any age.
Can I have your account? =p
lol honestly people, most of the FREE 7 to 30 day free trials or periods on a MMORPG requires a credit card, i dont care if they want it in beta as well. I have had no problems canceling any acount before they charge me, one or two I have had to call, those were the hardest to cancel, but how hard is it to push a few buttons. I'll give any game im interested in my CC to play the beta if they are not going to charge me.
Btw.. when the beta ends and the game will go retail, will they automaticly cancel my account and thus not chargin me anything? Coz i think they wont allow me to play on the beta account without actualy buyint the retail game..
I've palyed about 5 closed betas in my time, every single one required a credit card and required me to sign up again when the game is released, using a release CD-Key.
Im in the mxo beta at the moment, you don't need to buy the final game, and they WILL NOT charge you.
Im confused as to what makes people think these companies set out with the intention of making thier customers sue them. (Although, im guessing its mainly SOE's fault)
Have fun in the beta, it's laggy as hell at times, but it can be good fun if you play with the right people.
There are other ways to check your age besides a credit card. I was 17 when I got my first credit card and my wife was 16 so that theory doesn't work so well.
Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine. I hate it when you need a credit card to "verify your age." It's a very lame attempt of saying "hey, we got your CC number handy so if you just wanna buy the game all you have to do is press "enter""

SOmeone mentioned that they were making a $0.10 charge to the CC. Thats to test the billing system.
Im tired of people complaining about having to have a CC to beta test games. If you want to beta test it so bad, go get a debit card. Most banks will let you if you have an account with them. Otherwise, wait until retail. They want to make sure that only 18+ ppl are in the beta (though this harldy ever happens) because being in beta is about more that having fun playing a MMO for free. Its about testing bugs and reporting back on them, which adults are generally more reliable at. Not to mention the NDA issue.

They actualy do not charge you anything, that 10 cents are just placed on hold.. when the beta is over you will get them back
One shouldn't need a credit card to beta test a game. I beta tested games since 1996 and I never needed a credit card. 100% of all games I beta tested (for the exception of WoW) required that you be 18 and had a NDA.
Many companies that I beta tested (PS and PS2 games) required you to sign a contract and copy your license and/or ID card and fax it back to the company. Never had I been asked for a credit card.
The point isn't that we have to pay 0.10 or something...the point is it's a very sleazy way for a company to ask to prove your age. Especially when you're beta testing a product that hasn't been placed on the market yet.

And how many MMO's besides WoW have you tested? Obviously, a PS2 game wouldnt require someone to have a credit card since its only an initial pupose. MMOs require a person to pay every month, so proof of being able to pay is a must.
Sure, there are other ways to check for age, but CCs are the most safe and secure. There is nothing sleazy about it at all. They are trying to make sure that people will:
1. Abide by the NDA, which the person has to be 18 for the contract to be legaly binding
2. Report bugs. I seriously doubt any of the kids who have been whining about the CC card issue had any intention of testing and reporting bugs.
3. Be able to pay for the game. If im going to be charging someone money to play a game, I want to make sure they can play it after it is released. Otherwise, you get people who drop right after the beta, and the company loses money. There is nothing sleasy about that at all. Its a pretty smart move actually.
In short, there is nothing wrong, or new for that matter about a company requiring a CC to play a beta. It's common sense

I've got no problem using a credit card as a method of winnowing out people.
The only problem I've got is ...
THEY WON"T ACCEPT MY DEBIT CARD!!!
