I am extremely suprised and awed to see such a huge contest coming from MMORPG.com, I must say that it will surely bring us some traffic for the next two days. I have heard mixed things about MXO, so this will be a great opportunity to see for myself how the game plays.
I just signed up, and a few things struck me as odd. Normally, the winners have an advantage based their site ranking, 1 to 100. This contest only allows a maximum of two logins to count towards extra tickets. What I don't particularly like about this system is how easy it would be to create 50 accounts and log in with all of them twice. I don't mean to complain, not at all, it just struck me as odd.
Another thing I noticed is that it says "one hundred (500)" prizes will be given (it says this at the top of the http://www.mmorpg.com/mxo_promo.cfm page). I assume that they meant "five hundred (500)", but I wasn't sure.

Limited play. All characters will get erased. Expect tons of bugs. Fill content will not be available. All characters get erased.
MXO will be going directly up against AO, and SWG. In SWG's favor is the fact the next Star Wars movie is soon coming out. In AO's favor is.... well... it's been out for years, and thus has proven to be successful aka re-couped its money.
MXO? All the movies are long ago done and released. And the books that the movies are very loosly based on are not well known by the mainstream, or even the non-mainstream. The books are up to Matrix 5. The movies went up to Matrix 3. No way would a movie be made about the rest of the Matrix books - the system we live in would not allow it.
Plus 99.94% of the population would not get it anyway.
What am I getting at? MXO will fail because it has tooo much of an uphill battle. There is no marketing angle for it. Thus anyone who does not win the Beta... you will not be missing anything since MXO will not survive to become a success. AO has tons of guns in a setting that is sci-fi/futuristic. MXO takes place in a modern-day looking New York City.
MXO's only possible chance is to be such a different, unique game, that the power of WOMA makes it successful. (One way MXO could be different and unique is allowing players to go inside every single building, on every floor, into every room.

Little sidenote,
Look at AC2's beta! You got a 100% guaranteed acceptance! They had a free download, plus gave away free CD's in a major computer magazine. Simply buy the magazine, or just get a pencil and paper and write down the CD-Key code, and you were in no matter what.
AC2 still bombed, failed, big time.

My personal opinion is, if you want to know what MxO is like, just play City of Heroes and imagine it matrix themed but with unbelievable lag and billions of bugs.
Well, it IS a beta, and many games ship out with bugs.
I say you don't lose anything by joining. If you win, you get to see a game in construction (not many of us see that) and maybe have some fun 100% free. The only potential losers ehre would be thedevelopers if their game fails to catch the testers' attention.

You need a credit card, it is not charged, it's for age/id purposes for the NDA.
It's nothing like CoH....ya don't see people flying around in their underwear like in some pedophile's dream.
Lag for me is non-existant...only found a couple bugs so far, nothing as show-stopping as most of the bugs I've dealt with in LIVE games.
I think the game will succeed quite well. I really don't know why people bash this game so much....maybe people are just afraid of a game that's not phantasy-based?
Ya see, SOE ruined SWG with the Jedi-garbage.....AO is DEAD now (5 people at ENT BB at any point in teh day....sad). People will be wanting a good sci-fi game, and since FOM seems to be vapor-ware, well, here we go.
I really like the game. It play well, it looks good, performace is great with close to max settings. Yeah, it's only a beta, and your character will be wiped, but think of it this way, you get an edge on all the regular players when the game goes live. You'll already know what you're doing, and how to set up your toon. Plus, it's fun, so being able to play early and help the game be less buggy when it comes out is a good thing.
The best thing to do of course is not listen to anyone, and get yourself into the game via one of the fansite contests going on. (or pre-order if your desperate). then decide for yourself.

well yay beta is kinda like a free trial sorta plus u get to be one of the first people to play, well like one of the thousands that get to try it before everyone else hehe
that, and you get to help squash bugs. for every tester, that less bugs when the game is released. Considering that I REALLY like this game, I take bug-squishing very seriously, it's very satisfying knowing that I'm making a differance.
I've played almost every major (and a lot of minor) MMORPG out there. This one has what I've been looking for. I really miss old-school AO...this fills the void.

please realise that almost every fan site and mmorpg site just gave out 500 keys. That's a lot of new people playing. It wasn't laggy for me two nights ago, but then yesterday with all the n00bs it was quite bad.
I'm willing to bet that they sort it out in a couple days, certainly before wednesday when it goes 24/7.
