Spellborn is dead. Now please spare me from "it was crap anyway" - I personally loved it. I liked combat I loved scenery, I got hooked on lore.
I am bored with LotRO, I got burned from AO, I dont feel like going back to AoC. WoW is out of question. I dont like Vanguard.
I am looking for something different from usual cookie cutter, something with pretty graphics, decent character customization, some interesting background story, eventually meaningful crafting. I dont care about PvP much, its ok but it bores me very soon, I am not overly competitive. I dont mind *some* grind but not too much. I dont care about RP and I am not enthusiastically social person.
What I want is virtual world I can feel attached to.
Anyone got some suggestion about MMORPG I could be happy with or should I be better off buying something single player?

Except for the PVP part, you described EVE to a T. Especially if you are into crafting. There are some areas and situations (such as having war declared on your corp) where PVP is somewhat inevitable, but for the most part you can work your way around these situations.
Maybe you will think that the major drawback with even is that once you create your character (and EVE allows for almost limiteless variations in that) you sort of become a static portrait since all people really see is your ship. If you can get past that though, it's an absolutely amazing game and very different then just about any MMO out there.
Other then that, City of Heroes/City of villians has most of that too, except maybe for the crafting part. It does have some sort crafting but nothing as complex as other MMOs.
The funny part about my suggestions is that no two games in my opinion could be more polar opposites then those two.
There are some good options to have fun, for example BF Heroes, a mix between BF and Team Fortress 2.
You also have Drift City, a mmorpg where you drive a car, you do quests, pvp and more things.
Guild Wars is a fantasy mmorpg but very good and different to the rest, give it a try.
Some final sugestions:
Dungeons and Dragons Online
7 Million
City of Heroes/Villains
Yeah Guild Wars really gets you attached to trhe story and Team PVP. Fast lvling and fun gameplay that really takes skill. Also I think you can get all teh games for like $30.00 or less in a pack.

I almost got in EVE when I was leaving AO first time, but just what you mention about avatar being a static ship turned me down. I am a girl, I like to make toons that look like me as much as possible and I love to dress them up. Being a space ship would take a lot of fun out of the game for me
PvP, like I said, I dont mind, I just dont want it to be main focus of my game. I am still member of high endgame PvP org in AO and loyal defender of my side, I just kinda get tired of too much e-peen flowing around
Sometimes I am just grumpy and want to be left alone to grind, craft, whatever..... I am not overly social type and I dont have to have teams all the time to be happy. Besides, I really dislike playing healing classes, I usually pick something very variable and soloable and completely unwanted in team play.
I am afraid that crafting is the best way to keep me from boredom usually. Besides I am a hoarder and more useless crap I can gather in my game happiest I am (always in hope I will pick unexpected diamond among the garbage ofc).
I dont think team PvP oriented game would be my cup of tea, and I dont mind the cost. I still keep several paying accounts for the games I hardly play, I wouldnt mind replacing them with something worth my money. Genre is not important, I play Sci-Fi and fantasy with the same passion.
Anyway thanks for the suggestions, guys, I will look into them. Hope I find something I like
Have you considered Aion? Beta's going on right now with full launch in September.

Yes, I have considered it and been monitoring for a while.
But the first problem is, I am not very keen on anima types. Second - I dont see anything new in that game. It looks very polished, yes, generally like WoW, lot of great looks but not much soul actually.
I could and still can play AO although it has outdated graphics and horrible combat system because I find challenge in twinking my toons, takes some work and thinking to make them really good.
I could get over shallowness of AoC and bugs in Spellborn because I loved their combat system and graphics.
But what Aion really has apart from the same old mash button, pewpew? I couldnt find anything. Feel free to correct me if you think I am wrong though.
I too needed something different, something away from the norm.
You mentioned that you liked crafting a lot. Have you checked out The Saga of Ryzom? It has a lot of what you seem to be looking for. The community isn't huge however, but there are always a decent amount of people on, and the community is extremely helpful.
It's a sandbox game, so only Silan (the starting area) is heavily quest/mission based. After that, there are quests/missions, but no where near in the amount you see in Silan (from what I understand).
The crafting/harvesting is pretty interesting & in-depth.
There is a 23 day trial, why not have a look?
I get the general impression that you favored the games that had something other than the usual MMO combat. Mabinogi and DDO might each be worth a look. I know the crafting in Mabinogi is meaningful, although I don't know anything about the crafting for DDO.
I wanted so badly to play Mabinogi as I loved Dark Ages by Nexon and heard that it was similar, just 3D. I got into that game, the storyline was adorable. My major problem with it was the fact that I couldn't get the hell away from Gold Spammers! It was a serious nightmare. Everywhere I walked they were spamming. My eyes bled. I.. logged out and never logged back in. Had such promise too.
It definitely sounds like the gripe is combat mechanics. This is something I've been observing in MMOs for a while, and have been keeping an eye on new games on the forefront to satiate my needs.
I would recommend Jumpgate Evolution as a game to try, but if you're picky about having a character to dress up and whatnot, I can't say it would be best for you. Champions Online might be up your alley. The combat is supposed to be fast paced and different from other "whack-a-mole" style games. Plus, you could spend hours dressing up your character as soon as you get it, lol.
Guild Wars is very good, and you can find yourself losing lots of time to it. The level cap is 20, and lots of traditional MMO players regard this as a flaw, but the real way to advance a character is by unlocking new skills as you progress through the game. Rather than leveling up and running to a trainer to train skills, skills are unlocked as you progress through the story of the game from skill trainers at certain outposts. There are also "elite" skills that must be acquired from boss mobs using a Signet of Capture. The crafting in GW is a different beast, because rather than crafting a sword with certain stats based on the materials you have, you come with a sword that does maximum damage already and add new components to it, such as a Sword Pommel of Fortitude and a Zealous Sword Hilt, which would give the sword +30hp and energy gain upon striking an enemy. Although the true spirit of the game is in the PvP, the PvE side is lengthy and rewarding. You never know if you'll have a warrior that might need that Zealous Sword Hilt, so you'd better keep it around just in case
There are, of course, MANY MMOFPS games coming out soon if you're into that sort of thing. I personally don't think I'll be into many of them, with the exception of The Agency. Definitely worth looking at though, as many of them are built upon great systems.

Nexon has let them pretty much destroy a large part of the new user experience. However, you'll only see bots farming around Tir (the first village) and there is a blacklist built into the game. Right click on anyone spamming, copy name, and paste it into the blacklist and you don't have to deal with them again until Nexon goes through their weekly cleanup.
I was going to suggest DDO, but that might lack the character customisation your after. But is certainly worth doing the trial, if you like story telling adventure its worth checking out.
But to get character customisation as well you probably need to look at City of Heroes! an old game now but is still popular and hugly different.
True..... it is, so to say, a backbone of my games. The rest is flesh.
I cant bear with mashing buttons for long anymore, autto attack and even worse auto facing type of combat kill all my fun.
I am not much into FPS though.
I will look into Ryzom. Arent Guild Wars very team oriented? I like playing with other people, but on my own terms and when I feel like it. I hate when game forces me into grouping and doesnt give me a chance to do something meaningful when I am not in a mood for group play.
You can try Fallen Earth. Strest test on fileplanet open to all. The game is different from the cookie cutter mmo and it have decent graphics, at least from the screenies.

Funny you say that, I was checking Fallen Earth just last night and it looks like it *might* be that.
I am getting seriously suspicious about newly released games though, none seems to deliver what they promised. I got burned with AoC and now TCoS.
Still, worth giving a try
Why don't you try Aion? The character customization is the best out there, you can waste ridiculous amounts of time tweaking your toon to visual perfection. I found the Armour and weaponry varied enough that I looked forward to my latest upgrades unlike other games.
I haven't really giving crafting much of a go yet but you can craft gear thats Abyss equivalent, so you've got a way to stay decently equipped if you want to avoid PvP. The quests are your standard 'kill X amounts of Y' but the quest are actually worth reading, I was suprised how well written the quests are. Your character has a backstory for you to discover so your served a large dose of lore as you follow your quest line.
I'm currently playing on the chinese free server which allows you 2 chars per server and caps you at level 30, so you can have a fair go at Aion to see if you want play once it's relased over here. I'm already addicted, haven't had it this bad since my EQ days so I definately recommend that you try Aion.
I see nothing new with Aion, but another maybe bit more polished Asian game. Combat is same thing as WoW and similar games, right? Besides I am really not into anime...
I do care about character customization and looks, but there must be something more in my game, something that gives it a soul, not just playing with shiny plastic Barbie doll. Thats about word I would describe Aion with (just as it looks like to me, no offense) - plastic.
I am just too old to be happy with just looks I guess >.<
Never played WoW but the combat is turn-base but your not over flooded with buttons to mash either, the combat reminds me slightly of EQ. You can't just charge in aggro half the zone and proceed to kill anything and eveything. You have to watch you aggro at all times, getting a single add can kill you. So combat does keep you on your toes, you also get position bonuses in combat, moving forward increases your attack, moving back your defense and strayfing adds bonus to evade. You can also add mana stones to your armour/weapons that increase hp,mp,attk, phy attk, parry, evasion which can change how you preform in combat drastically. Can't say much about Aerial combat, not there yet.
Not a fan of anime either which is why I made a fat bellied dwarf for my main character but despite the surboard sized great swords and pink hair i'm lovin Aion, just try it, it's free.
You can't just charge and aggro half the zone and proceed to kill anything and everything in any game I played... and in some of them combat system is plain horrible. I wouldnt say watching the adds would keep me on my toes much.
The combat I am talking about as interesting and what I was at least somewhat happy with is AoC and Spellborn type. Though I must admit that even AoC got kind of boring after leveling my 3rd alt. Spellborn didnt last long enough for me to get to the eventual boredom point so I found it huge fun.
There is something else that made me fall in love with that game - lack of "holy trinity" in classes and lack of items with stats. I seriously hate to have to spend time on gear grind to be competitive. Maybe I am not the most skilled player in the world but I do respect skill over OP items.
As I said, I am not fan of healing classes, I dont mind some kind of specialization but I love "jack of all trades" classes that can hold on their own. TCoS gave me perfect opportunity there. Not to say that one could just pick whoever around and go do heroic deeds.... I remember sitting in Shat and waiting for some halfassed healer to join the team so we can finally get going for 6 hours once in WoW. No thanks, never again.
I am picky, yes. I know I will not find another TCoS as well. Aion? I doubt. Maybe.
Btw I dont care for "free", I actually like to pay to play for numerous reasons.
Your about 5 years too late otherwise I would have recommended SWG, you could try Ryzom I suppose skill-based system but a little old, but the combat is turn-base. You could wait for TOR although it's a class based game (class story arcs) the combat wont have auto attack so possibly more like AoC and it's rumored that TOR wont have the holy trinity plus it's Star Wars so plenty of lore.
Champions Online is more twitch I imagine, simply because it's a cross platform game but with skill trees instead of classes. So either The Old Republic or Champions Online, should be worth checking out.
Yes I always seem to be late for some things.... story of my life ^^
I got some really great ideas here, thanks everyone for suggestions, I am checking and deciding now and I dont feel so lost anymore. Thank you all

The combat in Ryzom is not turn-based at all. It's a "normal" combat system.
