My answer is hell no. I should not be "testing" the billing system and giving a CC just for the sake of beta testing game. I'm doing them a favor. People it's called "incramentalism", and if this becomes a standard, it will only become worse from here.

by the looks of the poll so far....it looks like a lot of people will not be playing matrix online

i for one think this was a VERY BAD move by the development team.....I do wish this game the best but i think they have lost many people that may have payed for an account in the future.

This credit card thing they've done has to be one of the worse moves ever. I mean i can't even pay because it has some kind of issues with canadian users with Visas.

Uleet you are posting everywhere telling people to boycott TMO but you don't have a good reason why. It is a product that the company- whoever it is this month -that owns and they may choose to price it however they want. No one is making you buy anything.

Well for whats its worth I stalled at the beta registration page when I seen they wanted my credit card information.

I am not buying any services from them. If they wanted to confirm my identity they could have had me mail them. But I guess they dont know identity fraud is illegal. They are assuming everyone would commit a crime. I take offense to that.

And even if some loser did give a fake name, who cares? The game releases next month supposedly. And NDA breach this late in the game is not going to hurt nothing.

They are just turning away prospective MMO players. I have been subscribed to dozens of MMO's. I am not going to beta test to leach your bandwith. I really do and like MMO's(Well maybe not anymore except Eve). So stick your credit card requirment up your arse.

Down with MxO.

I wouldnt sign up, this is a "new" tactic used by online companies. Once you sign up and input your credit details you will agree (in the EULA) that they can freely bill your credit card unless you ask them to stop. The catch here is getting them to stop taking money, they may require you to ring up and then send by snail mail documents of proof of ownership. I'm not saying it will happen but its beoming a good tactic for keeping people paying as its such a hasstle to quit.

Also I belive this will be a bit of a crap MMO imo, not sure what type of story their could be....

First off, some betas require a CC to make sure someone doesn't make more than one account, this is totally understandable, so year even if they need me to use a CC I would. Although this is a closed beta so there's really no reason for them to be asking for a CC other then to confirm who you are.

This seems like a sensible move to me. The credit card check allows the developers to ensure that all the people who are playing the beta are over 18 and thus are legally bound by the NDA. What other way do you suggest they ensure that all players are legally bound by the NDA? This seems like an inevitable evolution to me.

But then again, what do I care, just means I'm more likely to get to play beta o/

There is no way, and a credit card isn't valid way to do it either, I'm 16 and have had a CC for more then 3 years now...

Visa Buxx Prepaid Credit Card, this can be used by teens. Yeah, it counts as a credit card and not just debit.

I'm not going to do the beta now but not because of being offended that I am required to use a credit card. It is a policy of mine that I never give my credit card number to anybody unless I am going to buy something from an established company. When something involves my credit card or personal information, I am a very cautious person especially over the internet.

Look, The Matrix Online is EXACTLY like City of Heroes, except you don't make colorful super heroes with tones of super powers, you create a black leather trench coat style character that does Kung Fu and the genre. All in a large modern-like city.

For a company to handle thousands of players at once on 1 server, they can't run it on just 50-80$ per sold copy. It requires a monthly fee.

What would you prefer? That they make the game only allow a dozen players to explore the main city areas to reduce bandwidth? Or to have thousands of players walk the streets and jump from building to building at once?

If you're a kid, then it's no surprise why you wrote this thread. Cause you don't have a credit card and your parents won't let you borrow it. It's not your time yet boy, wait a few years, get a credit card, and it unlocks a whole new world for you... including debts. lol
