UO and WoW Vet, tried em all LF something else.
I am an old school UO gamer, opened account in 99 and played until 2005 when I went to WoW, have not played WoW much at all since the fading days of BC. Just tired of the treadmill feel and the completely guided and repetitive gameplay. In my opinion UO is by leaps and bounds the best MMO I have ever played (and I have tried several, bought boxes [not free trials] of EQ2, Age of Conan, Middle Earth Online, Vanguard, SWG, Warhammer Online and Asherons Call. Plus many free trials of other games)
I am over the hand holding level grind gameplay and miss the sandbox style world and character creation. I started my UO account again and have been filling time, but the community has stagnated and just fallen apart.
I am looking for a game that -
- Has a strong, active and friendly community (not necessarily a huge player base)
- Devoted development team who works hard to keep the game fresh
- Meaningful pvp
- A player driven economy
- An open "sandbox" style world
- True character customization
- And has staying power
Bonuses -
- Solid crafting system (true mule characters)
- Player housing
Not necessary -
- Cutting edge graphics
- Massive raids
Anyway, maybe I am just trying to find something that does not exist, but if you guys know of anything similar let me know, thanks!

Check out Linkrealms. It's much like UO, but new. It's usually not difficult to join the beta if you express interest on their forums.
Also, look into Mortal Online if you haven't yet.

its dated but its very popular
You might love EVE-Online.. or you might hate it. I bet you have atleast heard of it so I won't explain about it.
