or 265,000. PED (Project Entropia Dollars) ::::33::

That is what someone just paid for the 'ownership' of PE's Treasure Island.

Believe it.

Well, if you would have read the page you posted you would have known he didnt pay that much money.

    It clearly states:

    Final Auction Bid

    265.000 PED

    10 PED = 1 USD

Do the math, he paid MUCH less that $26,500.00.

I havent played it, but basing my opinion on what I've heard it's not worth it.

At one point I TRIED downloading it but it was going to take a LONG time, and I have decent connection.

You have to put real money into the game in order to do anything, and then your character gets bugged and your money gets wasted.

And the GMs think they shouldnt HAVE to fix it because the game you're PLAYING is free.

    I'd suggest you re-read /your/ math primer.

    265,000/ 10 == 26,500

I notice they say BID, doesn't necessarily mean the person will actually pay up. It could just a be spoof bid like what happens on eBay with stupid/wierd items. Anyway, if the buyer can actually make a little money back off the area that's still pretty cool. If someone wants to spend that much to have fun and own some virtual property, I say go for it.

  • zensaberzensaber Member UncommonPosts: 787

yes every day or so theirs a speical drop and its anouced over the server. Like Darkness picked up 1000PEDS. Oh and yes you can change game money into real money and real money into game money

  • SerienSerien Member CommonPosts: 8,460

    was it 265,000 or 265.000?

because if he really paid 26 grand..

talk about being rich after retirement

(either that..or he's just some rich little kid)

A bid requires that the amount of PED be deposited into the auction system equivilant to the bid.
SO YES, SOMEONE ACTUALLY PAID $26,500.00 for a piece of virtual property.

So did this person actually deposit $26,500 into the game to buy this? Or have they acquired it through other means such as trading, hunting, etc. I'm sure if they have that much they probably already invested quite a bit but it doesn't have to be $26,500.

Only reason I ask is because someone out here before said it was rather difficult to actually convert in game money to real dollars. It would seem to me then if the person invested let's say $1,000 and managed to turn it into $26,500 purely by in game means then does that really equal $26,500 since it would be rather hard to even extract it out? That is assuming the person saying it was hard to convert the money is correct.

If that is unclear let me use AC1 as an example, say I buy 500 Singularity Keys on eBay for $100. Through smart trading I manage to double my Singularity Keys to 1000. I use my 1000 Singularity Keys to buy some uber item. Does that mean I payed $200 for that item? I could have turned around and sold them on eBay. I guess technically yes, but my feelings say no since virtual items and currency for me just don't bare as much weight.

SWEEEET! So now he owns that island that means its like his own land he could build a city there and then have ppl come there and make them pay taxes. Or make some secret military base for a clan and take over the whole server. If i only had the money.image

Yeah, the final bid was 26 500 USD. Very cool and exciting bidwar in the end. The concept of Project Entropia (www.projectentropia.com) is very novel and cool, and if I had the money, I'd tried to get a hold of the island myself. It will be a better investment than any other  -- including RL stocks.

I wonder when MS or SOE buys the company behind Entropia...

If someone can make money out of this game then obviously someone is losing some and it isn't the company running the game that's for sure.

I played this game like 3 months ago.  I got bored of this game after 15min.  It would seem that you need to deposit at least $5 to get a decent weapon for hunting.  From there on, I quit and play beta games. image

Project Entropia is a wonderfull game but is not for everyone.  I have played for two years now and have seen many many ppl get frusterated and leave.  Here is a list of a few things to keep in mind if you plan on giving it a try...

    - The #1 thing most ppl have trouble with is coming to the realization that the Developers are a small studio in Sweden.  Do not expect the same feel you get from a large studio.  This game is not finished and will probably never be finished.  There are up to ten significant releases each year that change and add to gameplay.

    - Yes it is free to download and yes it is free to play.  However, unless you are a freak who loves boredom you will want to deposit at LEAST $10 .  This will get you started and if you are carefull can last you a good while.  However, please note, and this is a BIG one, you CAN and most likely WILL lose every cent you deposit.  That is not to say you won't have gear, clothes, skills etc to show for it...  This game is not about making money for most ppl, it is about the community and fun of gameplay involving real life money.  Now, having said that you wil lose your money I must say two things.  One, depending on how carefull and smart you are your money will last alot longer.  One who is reckless will not have cash for long.  And two, there is a slight remote chance that you will be one of the lucky few who are able to make money in this game.

    - Only deposit what you are willing to lose, just like gambling image

    - PE has a very tightknit and respectfull community.  Expect to meet alot of really nice people.

    - If your goal in gaming is to be the most Uber MoFo and you are not rich in real life...this game is not for you.  You cannot afford it and will be dissappointed that you cannot catch up to the "Vets".  Again, there are the lucky few but you can rest assured you will not be one of them.

Anyways, thats my 2 P.E.C.s (Project Entropia Cents)

Not to come and be a troll, but is this honestly something to be proud of?  Is it really a big deal?  I'm sorry, but I am more impressed if someone owns their own island in RL than in a game.  Goes to show how crappy of a place the world can be.  Hmmm, spend almost $27,000 on a worthless piece of data, or possibly help someone in need.  It's Christmas time.  Should I help a family who can't afford to buy their kids presents?  Should I treat some homeless people to a nice meal?  Hell no!  I'll buy virtual property so all my online "friends" can think I am an u|83r l337 d00d!

I would hesitate to call it worthless until we see what he makes developing the land.  Tell me the difference between a RL real estate developer who buys land and develops it and this?  Besides the obvious pixels isse I do not see any difference.  These ppl are in it to make money.  And they most likely will make alot of it.
