So my idle Temp is 40C...with an xigmatek dark knight cpu cooler (one of the best)
Is this normal? and yes i am using AC5
CPU: Amd phenom II 940 @ 3ghz (stock)
Edit: Fixed! Added a fan and turned around the heat sink and it dropped temps down to 27C-30C idle.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this heat sink!

"Rating + 5 Dropped Phenom II X4 940 temps significantly
Pros: This dropped my X4 940 idle temps from 48-50 to 38-40 with Artic Silver 5.
It's an incredibly easy to install cooler if you're using the AMD clip (that the stock AMD cooler uses).
Cons: Very tall and massive. Barely fits in an Antec 300.
Other Thoughts: The fan blows upwards (or downwards if you choose) - not out the back or towards the side. But this is a PRO for me because the Antec 300 has an exhaust fan right where it points, which is perfect. "

sounds about right

There is nothing wrong with a 40C temp as long as it's constant (aka, you're not overclocking and doing random things to it). Most internal components can handle up to 65C or so before malfuntioning...
My video card hit 75-80ish before melting....so 40C is nothing to complain about
My main rig runs at 39c and 55-59c when in games, you can't expect too much from fan cooling. but you're fine with 40c usually, but it's good to see you got it even lower after that quick fix.
